View 12 RepliesHave a problem with a laptop connecting to a Wireless Router. The laptop was working fine on the last router which was on an ADSL Network.. (not that that matters),When the new router (Virgin Media / Cable) was installed all other laptops where connecting to it without any probs, but not this one.The laptop in question still receives an IP address, Subnet mask and Gateway from the router - Vista says Local only, no internet access. It cannot ping anything else on the network either. When I do ping it comes back destination host unreachable.

IP Address: 192.168.25.24
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.254.1
When I connect my computer, it gives an error that the IP address and subnet mismatch, but it still connects to the internet just fine. However, if I try to put these settings into the DIR-655 along with my computer's MAC address, it gives me the error "WAN gateway IP address 192.168.25.24 must be within the WAN subnet" and requires I change it.
our subnet mask is 255.255.255.0....can I change it to something else like 255.255.0.0.

When I configure the TD-8968 all works well, it syncs but does not connect to internet. When I diagnose the connection the modem pass tests at ATm level but is not able to find the default gateway. I got another modem (the one to be substituted with the 8968) that it works with the configuration I am triying to use. Is there some step I am missing or is the modem faulty?

The problem is that I would like to have 255.255.255.0 as subnet but it should still be possible to access 10.2.2.200. Can I add Static route for oldhardware in XP without adding gateway settings? We have around 15 users who are using that server as file server only. Now my main question is do i need to configure DNS server in that server?we also have internet connection running (have problem in that also, will explain next time) with wireless router to connected with switch. So do I need to setup dns in server also or just put static ip (I prefer static then dhcp) & dns server from ip will be ok? View 2 Replies View Relatedhrome threw me a DNS lookup failed. I go into my network settings and I noticed that I had limited connectivity. It would switch between no network access and no internet access every few seconds. After a bit of fiddling around, I got it to connect through assigning myself a static IP. This isn't exactly convenient because I use this computer on multiple networks. When I try to have it on automatic IP, I get no IP address or default gateway when I do an ipconfig /all. It would appear that my router quit assigning my laptop an IP for no reason whatsoever. DHCP is enabled on the router, and all other devices work fine. What could possibly be the problem here? I'm 99% sure it's not an IP conflict either. It's not being MAC filtered because I'm on the thing right now posting this through a static IP. It's not my A/V because it's worked great in the past. Perhaps I should also mention it occasionally says "unidentified network" instead of the SSID

This time I took the RV042G, hoping that the higher age of this product comes with a more mature firmware.So far the functions I need, work satisfying. There is only one issue: The subnet-mask is only configurable using a dropdown-menu. I've read the posts from the Cisco-Support staff saying, that this is because it is only a SMB Router. So, we are a small business and we use the 172.20.x.y net for several reasons. One of it is to distinguish and group several network devices using the third block of the IP. Eg. our printers IPs start with 172.20.5.x and so on.
My question is: Is it really impossible to change the subnet-mask dropdown-menu to a simple text-field in the frontend? Because it is possible to change the subnet to whatever one needs by a little cURL-magic: [code] This sets the new subnet-mask permanently (even survives a reboot and is displayed correctly on the system-status page) and I have not discovered any problems.The only thing is, if you change settings on the setup -> network page, the netmask is reset and you have to rerun this script.
recently, i have connected the internet to my PC with cable. Here the problem is , the packets are not receiving in the status bar of internet connection. I switched from Time Capsule with AirPort to E2000 and have a problem with configuration.I use the same IPs as in AirPort and E2000 gives me an error:"The WAN IP address cannot be the same subnet as the Guest Network IP address" and I can't save configuration.But in my opinion they are different.I use "Static IP" option and I have IPs from my ISP: [code] So WAN IP is different subnet as LAN and I don't know what to do now. It worked with these settings in AirPort and here I can't proceed.

i joined because i keep on having the same problem. i read around the forum a bit before joining and i saw that mcafee was causing the problem for a lot of people. i dont have mcafee so that cant be it several crashes per day. like, literally close to 100 of them.
