Cisco Firewall :: Can ASA5505 DHCP Support 22 Bits Subnet Mask

Feb 11, 2013

I have an ASA5505 which provides internet (just internet) for about more than 600 pc/laptops. Can 5505's DHCP support this number?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: WAG54G2 Doesn't Support A Subnet Mask

Dec 13, 2011

We have 10 ADSL lines and 5 of them goes in the load  balancer (One gateway) and the rests are used as default gateways for  internet access. We use ADSL routers as access points for internet, but those routers  should be part of our network and should be given an address in order  for them to act as default gateways for internet access. I'm facing a  real prob with the ADSL routers Linksys WAG54G2 because they doesn't  support a subnet mask 255.255.0.0 Any recommendation for an ADSL router  model that support a netmask 255.255.0.0 ?

My cisco 2811 router interface configuration ip address: 172.20.0.1 255.255.254.0.Load balancer output lan ip address: 172.20.0.5.My ADSL routers will be in the following range : 172.20.0.6 - 172.20.0.10

Cisco Firewall :: Changing Subnet Mask In An ASA5520 Interface

Aug 8, 2012

We have an ASA 5520, working fine. One of the interfaces is connected to users PCs and printers mainly. Last months the number of devices has grown rapidly, and we would like to make some changes in it in order for it to be able to host new devices. We thought on change subnet mask of actual subnet (10.0.2.0/24) to 10.0.2.0/23, so it can hold as many devices.I understand I have to make some changes in the ASA, but my question is:What will happend to the acces rules I have created? Will I need to create them again? There are some objects which carry information about subnet mask, so I suppose I will need to redefine them, but for those without any subnet mask information, will I have to redefine them?

Access Computer In LAN Outside Subnet Mask?

Jun 12, 2012

I have old interface hardware with Static IP 10.2.2.200 and on the same switch I have computers with IPs of 10.4.1.0 If I change subnet to 255.0.0.0 old hardware with 10.2.2.200 will be accessible. The problem is that I would like to have 255.255.255.0 as subnet but it should still be possible to access 10.2.2.200. Can I add Static route for oldhardware in XP without adding gateway settings? The most simple would be to put all on same subnet but it is not possible due to a various reasons. The computers are running Windows XP

Cisco Routers :: RV042G Subnet Mask Drop-down Menu

Nov 27, 2012

after recovering from the PPPoE-port-forwarding-fiasco I had with the RV180 (url...), I decided to try again with a Small Business Router from Cisco. This time I took the RV042G, hoping that the higher age of this product comes with a more mature firmware. So far the functions I need, work satisfying. There is only one issue: The subnet-mask is only configurable using a dropdown-menu. I've read the posts from the Cisco-Support staff saying, that this is because it is only a SMB Router. So, we are a small business and we use the 172.20.x.y net for several reasons. One of it is to distinguish and group several network devices using the third block of the IP. Eg. our printers IPs start with 172.20.5.x and so on.

My question is: Is it really impossible to change the subnet-mask dropdown-menu to a simple text-field in the frontend? Because it is possible to change the subnet to whatever one needs by a little cURL-magic: [code] This sets the new subnet-mask permanently (even survives a reboot and is displayed correctly on the system-status page) and I have not discovered any problems. The only thing is, if you change settings on the setup -> network page, the netmask is reset and you have to rerun this script.

Cisco Firewall :: ASA5505 Disable DHCP On ASA And Enable On WNDR3700

May 13, 2013

I have ASA5505 as my main router (192.168.15.1) and it currently it also serves as DHCP server.  I have a WNDR3700 (192.168.15.2) which work as an access point and it provide wireless access for wireless devices.  I have few dhcp clients where i can't setup static IP, and i want to restrict them to use static IP through MAC reservation.

1. Make ASA5505 to do the MAC reservation f, which will be easy setup for me.  But as per my search its not possible.

2. Disable dhcp on ASA and enable dhcp on my WNDR3700.  i tired this and dhcp clients are getting IP from wndr3700, but the problem is dhcp clients gateway defaults to 192.168.15.2 (as well as dns) and therefore no internet connection.

Dual DHCP Or Access Devices On Different Subnet?

Aug 23, 2011

(DHCP servers are still clashing and still stealing clients)y the way, on both of the network maps all routers are connected with the LAN interface. someone told me to connect certain routers with WAN and it didn't work, or it was not explained correctly. Also please note that assigning clients with Static IP's is completely out of the question due to most of the clients being campers who come and go

Router DHCP Handing Out IP Addresses Not On The Same Subnet?

Dec 22, 2011

I have a Belkin model F9K1102 router supplying WAN/LAN connection to three PCs and 2 laptops. Two of the PCs are hardwired with the remainder PC and laptops are wireless. I'm using the default router IP of 192.168.2.1 and my ISP is Charter Cable (if that's of significance). The router is picking up all the dynamic IP information from my ISP and internal DHCP is enabled. Here's the issue though - when I connect a PC, laptop or iTouch (wired or wireless) with obtain IP settings automatically enabled the IP address it receives an IP address on a different subnet ie, 192.168.3.x and thus won't have WAN/LAN connection. I have tried to set the router IP to 192.168.3.1 and set the scope in the .3 subnet but the IP obtained by the device is .4! This makes no sense to me at all. The router is on the latest firmware (according to Belkin) and there doesn't seem to be any other update I can find. I have also tried another Belkin router (older model: F5D8236) and it does the same thing.

I'm not sure if this is related but I upgraded my service with Charter to a 18MB connection and a D3.0 Ubee cable modem - this issue seem to have began after this upgrade but I don't see how that would have any bearing on what is happening on my LAN IP scope and Charter tech support is pretty useless. My workaround is that I've static assigned an IP for each device in the same subnet as the router but it would be nice for the DHCP to function correctly.

2 DHCP Servers On Same Subnet Or Linking Two Subnets?

Aug 6, 2011

I have two locations both about 800meters apart, one is my home and the other address is a campsite where i have a linked router network (WDS with routers running ddwrt) where campers can all use the internet and also i have several IP cameras. Obviously both address have different gateways and therefore their own DHCP server. Everything was running perfectly until.I linked both of my address up using a long range antenna and now i am having problems.

Sometimes the two DHCP servers are competing with each other (i need both addresses on the same subnet in order to view my IP cams from home) and sometimes the computers log on to the wrong gateway. Its very annoying because the only way i can resolve it is by turning of the "linking routers" for a minute and then the Computers log onto the correct gateway. This happens to clients both side of the bridge. I have many different clients on both side of the bridge so assigning each computer (via windows) its fixed default gateway and DNS is out of the question as some of the clients are Camper's PC's and mine and my wifes laptops swap between both locations.

Now my query is, how can i block both DCHP servers from going over the bridge? OR can i have them on both separate subnets and still view my IP camera and still access all the routers from each subnet (i need this because sometimes i need to reboot the routers from home)
