(not that that matters),When the new router (Virgin Media / Cable) was installed all other laptops where connecting to it without any probs, but not this one.The laptop in question still receives an IP address, Subnet mask and Gateway from the router - Vista says Local only, no internet access. It cannot ping anything else on the network either. When I do ping it comes back destination host unreachable.

The problem is that I would like to have 255.255.255.0 as subnet but it should still be possible to access 10.2.2.200. Can I add Static route for oldhardware in XP without adding gateway settings? View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have an ASA 5520, working fine.One of the interfaces is connected to users PCs and printers mainly. Last months the number of devices has grown rapidly, and we would like to make some changes in it in order for it to be able to host new devices.We thought on change subnet mask of actual subnet (10.0.2.0/24) to 10.0.2.0/23, so it can hold as many devices.I understand I have to make some changes in the ASA, but my question is:What will happend to the acces rules I have created?Will I need to create them again? There are some objects which carry information about subnet mask, so I suppose I will need to redefine them, but for those without any subnet mask information, will I have to redefine them?
View 2 Replies View Relatedafter recovering from the PPPoE-port-forwarding-fiasco I had with the RV180 (url...), I decided to try again with a Small Business Router from Cisco. This time I took the RV042G, hoping that the higher age of this product comes with a more mature firmware.So far the functions I need, work satisfying. There is only one issue: The subnet-mask is only configurable using a dropdown-menu. I've read the posts from the Cisco-Support staff saying, that this is because it is only a SMB Router. So, we are a small business and we use the 172.20.x.y net for several reasons. One of it is to distinguish and group several network devices using the third block of the IP. Eg. our printers IPs start with 172.20.5.x and so on.
My question is: Is it really impossible to change the subnet-mask dropdown-menu to a simple text-field in the frontend? Because it is possible to change the subnet to whatever one needs by a little cURL-magic: [code] This sets the new subnet-mask permanently (even survives a reboot and is displayed correctly on the system-status page) and I have not discovered any problems.The only thing is, if you change settings on the setup -> network page, the netmask is reset and you have to rerun this script.
We have 10 ADSL lines and 5 of them goes in the load balancer (One gateway) and the rests are used as default gateways for internet access. We use ADSL routers as access points for internet, but those routers should be part of our network and should be given an address in order for them to act as default gateways for internet access. I'm facing a real prob with the ADSL routers Linksys WAG54G2 because they doesn't support a subnet mask 255.255.0.0 Any recommendation for an ADSL router model that support a netmask 255.255.0.0 ?

Cisco has recently released firmware 2.0.4.0 for the WAP2000 wireless access point. This firmware has two annoying bugs in new JavaScript code which validates SSID names on the "Basic Wireless Settings" page.
First of all, this firmware does not allow SSID names to contain spaces, even though a space is a legal character in a SSID name!
Secondly, this firmware only allow the first SSID name to be 31 characters longs, even though the maximum allowed SSID name length is 32 (and the input field even allows 32 characters to be entered in the first place!)
If either case you will get an "Illegal SSID Name!" alert message (the developer could apparently not be bothered to make the message more specific and tell the user WHY the SSID name is supposedly illegal), and you will not be able to add additional SSIDs, or configure these existing SSID's on new access points that have this firmware.
The workaround is to revert back to firmware 2.0.0.5. You can upgrade to 2.0.4.0 after adding the "illegal" SSID names, they will remain after upgrading.
The new firmware does have an interesting new feature: it can download its configuration from a TFTP server (either through DHCP or by specifying the server), but I have not been able to find the documentation on how to get this working.

View 2 Replies View Relatedpartition the departmental IP network address block to create a staff and a student subnet. Each of these will be identified by its own network address and netmask. It is university policy that you must be economical with the IP addresses. That is, the subnets must be as small as possible, but they must be large enough to accommodate the maximum number of hosts you were given. Also, it is university policy that the respective gateway router to the outside world should always be given the highest possible host IP address in the subnet. The student subnet should have a higher IP network address than the staff subnet. The network must be able to support up to 60 machines on the staff subnet (not counting the router) and up to 120 machines on the student subnet (also not counting the router).
IP address/netmask
University network address127.158.128.0
University network mask255.255.192.0
University internet gateway IP address127.158.191.254
Department network mask255.255.254.0
Department router address127.158.129.254
Suppose that the network address of the departmental network is 127.158.128.0 (calculated by AND between Dep network mask and Dep router address)I know that 60 machines would use 6 bits for the staff subnet.the netmask of staff would be 255.255.255.192.how can I figure out the the IP network address of the staff subnet.I have worked out the range for the staff subnetwork.
127.158.128.0 - 127.158.128.63
127.158.128.1 = Gateway address
127.158.128.63 = Broadcast address
Now how can I calculate the IP network address of the staff subnet?
Regarding our international subsidiaries there are many names that contain the character "-" (i.e. Pierre-Pascal)When trying to create an new Guest Account the ISE refuses it because of an invalid character in the "First Name" field.In other formular fields i.e. Email Address - the character "-" is allowed.Is it possible to change the rule which checks the fields for illegal characters? (Is it a Bug?)
