Jul 3, 2011I have a Linksys WRT54GS v5.1 router running firmware 1.52.5.I am trying to use Linksys IP Phones SPA942, but these do not seem to be able to log on and just show "Initializing network" even though the MAC address appears in the router with an IP address.The strange thing is that I already have 4 SPA941 phones that work with no problem and just log on to the network.Is there something about the SPA942 that I need to configure differently, I have factory reset it with sucess, but still unable to log on to the network.

I have a LAN and a DMZ and an internet connection. I am using one of the internet connection IPs to host a HTTP service on a server in my DMZ. (its the same interface as my internet connenction but a different IP to the one used for internet connectivity)
so say my LAN is 192.168.1.x
and my DMZ is 172.168.1.x
I can access DMZ from Lan and vice versa. when i try to access the public IP (or URL) from a pc in my LAN i get nothing.
I have enabled DNS rewrite (doctoring) but it is still not working. the HTTP service is available from other sites.

May 18, 2011I recently switched cable companies and was given a Linksys E1200 wireless router to connect to the internet. The router works fine with all of my laptops but not with my desktop. The desktop has a WMP11 wireless PCI card. I have had trouble using this card in the past but have always managed to solve connectivity issues. This time, I am unable to connect to the internet. Although I can detect the network signal, the network will not assign my computer an IP address. However is there any way to add a DNS server address to this reserved IP so that only the Google Box is affected by the DNS, all the other connected devices remain unaffected? Presently i enter the required DNS address in the google box but i would prefer to do it on the EA4500. I'm using the latest Cisco Cloud fw on my router.

Jan 17, 2011Bought a Cisco RVL200 (latest firmware included - I checked), and I've set it up to serve as the gateway/firewall for my home network. I also intend to use the VPN functionality when travelling as well as serving up content from a web server behind it. All of this seems to work the way it is intended (after quite a bit of fiddling).
The problem however is that if it comes under any sort of load it simply stops responding - physically it looks alright with the expected leds being lit, just as it would when functioning normally. It does not display the management interface, nor does it even respond to ping (which it does when it works). If I start up a bittorrent client on any of the machines on the internal network and add a torrent to something popular like Ubuntu Linux it'll usually start downloading and then after 5-15 minutes the RVL200 will have stopped responding. Tried adding QOS settings to limit the computer running the client or downprioritize this type of traffic, but that does not seem to have any effect.

Mar 7, 2013I'm adding another router to my home network to extend my WiFi range. (Linksys e2500.) I'm trying to change its IP from the default 192.168.1.1 so that it doesn't conflict with my primary (dhcp) router.
To isolate matters I've reset the router to factory settings, turned off my mac's WiFi and then connected the Mac to a Lan port on the router. Now I can view the router's admin page at 192.168.1.1.
Now I change its local IP to 192.168.1.3 and leave the subnet as 255.255.255.0. The router reboots and after several minutes is inaccessible at any IP I try (still hardwired to the Mac with WiFi off). Ifconfig doesn't show the router and the only way I can get it back is to factory reset it again.

So, most of the time everything works well, but there comes a moment when one of the computers (but not others) can't get valid IP address.We try turning off and then on the router and it solves the problem most of the time. But, there are cases when turning off and on the router won't solve the problem.

(1) Setup the E1000 unit to allow only one PC 'C1' (MAC: 91:E6:BA:25:91:58) wired access to the internet.
(2) Add another PC (unknown MAC address) to the LAN side of the E1000 unit and see if it is being blocked by the 'Access Restriction' policy that was setup.
(3) Can’t get the above done – the second PC is able to surf the internet although the policy is enabled.
Notes:(a) Ref: 'Access Restrictions' web page or see Page 26 in the User Guide .(b) The unit has the latest firmware already installed: Firmware Version: 2.1.01 build 5Dec 3, 2010.(c) The internet port of the unit goes to the ADSL modem in my house.(d) Unplugged the unit for 10 seconds as advised by one of your technicians, still no difference.(e) I can deny PCs, but the allowing only specified ones seems not to be doing anything.By the way, can the E3000 or E4200 do the above?

I can establish the connection and even open Outlook and connect to the exchange server on the remote network. It seems that whenever I try to move files up or down or open Internet Explorer, the following sequence of events happens:
1) Connection between my local router (BEFRS41) and the internet is dropped.
2) The IP address on my local network adaptor changes to an unknown number (169.254.180.72) - is normally 192.168.1.104
3) The VPN connection drops and attempts to re-dial, but of course fails because my connection tot he internet has been broken.
Since I'm accessing rather than hosting the VPN, I'm not sure if I have to adjust any of the router settings.
