Linksys Wireless Router :: E1000 / MAC Address Wired Filtering?
Jan 19, 2011
I just want to allow specified computers wired access to the internet via the E1000 router. Here is the problem I am currently working on:
(1) Setup the E1000 unit to allow only one PC 'C1' (MAC: 91:E6:BA:25:91:58) wired access to the internet.
(2) Add another PC (unknown MAC address) to the LAN side of the E1000 unit and see if it is being blocked by the 'Access Restriction' policy that was setup.
(3) Can’t get the above done – the second PC is able to surf the internet although the policy is enabled.
Notes:(a) Ref: 'Access Restrictions' web page or see Page 26 in the User Guide .(b) The unit has the latest firmware already installed: Firmware Version: 2.1.01 build 5Dec 3, 2010.(c) The internet port of the unit goes to the ADSL modem in my house.(d) Unplugged the unit for 10 seconds as advised by one of your technicians, still no difference.(e) I can deny PCs, but the allowing only specified ones seems not to be doing anything.By the way, can the E3000 or E4200 do the above?

I see on the control panel that there is MAC filtering for the wireless connections. I don't see a similar control panel for computers that are wired directly to the router. Where do I find this?

The browser-based settings utility for my E1200 can't setup MAC address filtering. I go to the "Wireless MAC Filter" page and enable MAC filtering. When I click the “wireless client list” button, a new window opens saying “IE cannot display the webpage”. This always happens when I have a wireless connection active. When there are no active connections, then IE properly displays the MAC address table, but it is empty since there aren't any computers connected to the router.

About 6 months ago I bought a new router (Linksys E1000 v2.1) which worked great right out of the box. A couple months later I tried to setup a home network so that my two laptops could access a shared drive on my wired desktop, but for some reason they didn't show up as being on the same network. All computers involved are running Windows 7 if that matters.
Upon a recommendation from I friend I put DD-WRT on the router and it worked fine. Setup MAC filtering and WPA2 Personal security. This worked fine for about 4 months until today.
When I got home from work today I noticed my laptop wouldn't pull up any web pages, but it said it was connected. Then I noticed my iPhone wasn't connected either. I restarted my laptop and then it wouldn't connect to the wireless either (I could see the wireless, but I would get a Could not Connect error when I tried to connect to it).
I went to my desktop and it is working just fine, it is plugged into the back of the router. I also have an AT&T MicroCell (cell phone booster) that is plugged in to the back of the router and it works fine too.
I removed the encryption and MAC filtering. I then reset to factory (or "factory" DD-WRT) and now the wireless works, but it is MUCH slower than my desktop. I ran a speedtest on my desktop and got 12 Mbps down and 1 Mbps up. On my laptop, I get 0.03 Mbps down and 0.25 Mbps up.

I've been experiencing a strange, repeatable behavior with my Linksys E1000. I have several wireless and wired devices connected to my E1000:
Wired: TivoHD, Sony BluRay Player, Sony TV, Windows XP Wireless: Lenovo Laptop (Windows 7), HP Laptop (Windows 7), 3 iPods, 2 iPhones
When I try to copy large files (~ 4GB) from my (wired) Windows XP box to either of my (wireless) laptops, the Linksys drops my WiFi network -- but the wired connections continue to work (including internet access). Copying the same/similar file from a WiFi device to a wired device appears to work correctly, as does copying from WiFi to WiFi.
To be clear, my WiFi network "disappears" -- it is no longer listed as an available network (as opposed to just dropping internet connectivity for WiFi). Unplugging the router and plugging it back in brings my WiFi network back up.
I have been able to repeat this issue with multiple files over the course of several weeks, and it happens about 75% of the time (i.e., I am occassionally able to complete a file copy from wired LAN to WiFi).
A little bit of background: I resurrected an old Windows XP box and am using it for shared network storage. I copied about 400 GB of files from my laptops to the XP box (WiFi to wired) with no issues at all. Pulling the same files back from XP to my laptops (wired to WiFi) has been causing the issue described above.

I have a problem viewing my security cam on my android IP cam app.I forwarded port on my router to my security cam then fixed security cam to have a static IP but my computer being on DHCP, after reboot changed IP, so I lost connection to android IP cam app.I read on a forum, that If your camera is using DHCP,setup your router so that it always gives the same static IP address for the camera based on it's MAC address but where do you set this up a Linksys E1000 router & on Samsung Y? so I can view my security cam on my android IP cam app.?

I have a Linksys WRT54GS v5.1 router running firmware 1.52.5.I am trying to use Linksys IP Phones SPA942, but these do not seem to be able to log on and just show "Initializing network" even though the MAC address appears in the router with an IP address. The strange thing is that I already have 4 SPA941 phones that work with no problem and just log on to the network. Is there something about the SPA942 that I need to configure differently, I have factory reset it with sucess, but still unable to log on to the network.

Is there an alternate way to get the DNS settings off of the router? I've followed all of the steps up above, but I cannot set up a static IP Address on my computer without knowing the routers DNS settings, which I cannot retrieve from the web-based setup due to the corrupt firmware.

I am attempting to access a VPN hosted on Windows 2003 Server using my Windows 7 SP1 / 64 bit laptop. I can establish the connection and even open Outlook and connect to the exchange server on the remote network. It seems that whenever I try to move files up or down or open Internet Explorer, the following sequence of events happens:
1) Connection between my local router (BEFRS41) and the internet is dropped.
2) The IP address on my local network adaptor changes to an unknown number (169.254.180.72) - is normally 192.168.1.104
3) The VPN connection drops and attempts to re-dial, but of course fails because my connection tot he internet has been broken.
Since I'm accessing rather than hosting the VPN, I'm not sure if I have to adjust any of the router settings.

I have two WAP 321 devices set up in our building they are on the same subnet with the same SSID and are using the WDS bridge mode. My question is, if i enable mac-address filtering on one of these devices will this infomation be passed to the other bridged device? or would the allow/deny list need to be populated manually on each device?

I'm attempting to block about 10 to 15 users on the wireless by using MAC address filtering on the Aironet. I referenced the following link: URL,The policy does indeed work, but once I apply the filter all traffic on the wireless for that particular VLAN stops. Why would this happen? I wouldn't think I need to configure anything else for this to work, but maybe I'm wrong.I was looking over the config and I noticed that each time I added a MAC address to the filter, it would create and access-list 701 deny 0000.0000.0000 ffff.ffff.ffff Once I removed this access-list, traffic starting flowing again, but when I add another MAC address the access-list shows up again.

When I connect my Comcast Internet to WAN2 port INTERNTE/DMZ) it doesn't get an IP address. and the Internet goes down and the WAN2 port ip address says 0.0.0.0.I've tried releasing/ renewing and it still says 0.0.0.0.Everything else is set as the default.

I have about 20 devices which i'm allowing to access my router, so i keyed in the MAC addresses into the config page and save setting. But only 16 addresses are registered, the rest refused to register no matter how many times i key in, it just reset back to 00:00:00:00:00:00 after i click on save setting.

Since I have this router E4200 my network undergoes changes alone. I have a MAC filtering as I had in my previous WNRL 160N and had no problems but here the overnight me are the 14 that I have enabled MAC, put another 3 that are not from where I changed the settings WiFi network, I've put in hidden, change encryption type and others and continues to happen randomly, and I added the router directly to the list of allowed MAC. I have remote management disabled in the Cisco Network Magic are not those MAC. not because it adds the MAC and I removed some that I have put the single.

Will Cisco be adding support for OpenDNS in the next firmware release? I have the e4200v2 and want to be able to specify times when I want the filtering to be off. After the kids go to bed. Netgear allows this with their nicely implemented OpenDNS in their routers. I am currently using OpenDNS with this router but don't like having to log in to remove the filtering and then adding it back on when I'm done surfing.

I have Cisco E4200v2, and after someone hacked my router's password, I was forced to activate a white listing MAC filtering. Problem is, that I would also like to enable a guest network so my small business's clients could still connect to the wifi, without having access to out home PC (and drinking our bandwidth).

All 3 previous wireless routers I've had were all LinkSys routers and I had to overcome a learning curve since configuring this DIR-655 is slightly different..What I want to do is allow only the WiFi MAC addresses that I choose to access the network. It seems to me that in order to accomplish this I have to include all of my wired LAN devices' MAC filters as well. I can see having MAC filtering for WiFi devices, however why do I need to add my wired LAN devices MAC addresses? I'm not going to allow just anyone to walk into my home off the street and plug a computer into the network via CAT-5 ethernet cable, so isn't there a way to accomplish just the WiFi allow list and the heck with the wired nodes? The LinkSys routers I used in the past allowed me to allow the MAC filter for WiFi devices only. Is there a way around having to allow all MAC's and just allowing the wifi's?

I just upgraded to the Belkin N750 DB router from the version just below it and couldn't get the wireless card (Ralink RT2760) in my daughter's dual-boot WinXP/Ubuntu 10.04 to connect to the WPA security setting (WEP only) on the Ubuntu side. There is an updated driver, but it's way above my Linux skill set, so instead I just disabled security completely, and used the MAC Address filtering to add all of our household devices. This solved her connection problem, but I am wondering if there is any danger to this method that I might not have considered

I own a E1000 router that I use with several wireless machines. Unfortunately, I cannot connect to the configuration of the router by typing url...in a browser, be it wireless or weirdly. For example, Firefox displays "Connection has been reinitialized". Furthermore, when I launch Cisco Connect, it only shows the error "Unable to connect to router". I tried to switch my router off and on, but that doesn't work. Totally resetting the router solves the problem, but not definitely. Is there a solution that does not require resetting my router?
