I have a new computer and notebook using Windows 7 OS and my router won't connect to the internet. My last OS was Vista and it worked great with that system. Is there updates I can download to get my router to work with my current OS?
View 2 RepliesI recently restored my computer to factory settings and had to reinstall everything. I can not get on the internet. All the lights that should be on are on on both the modem (Westell Wirespeed) and the Linksys Router (Wireless-G), I have strong signal and it says it is connected in my network connections, but no pages load. If I take the router out of the equation and just use the modem and ethernet cord the internet works perfectly. I have no clue what to do. I know the router works because it worked fine before I restored the computer. I am running Windows XP. I don't know what service pack though

The E1000 works fine with all computers EXCEPT two Compaq Presarios running Windows Vista SP2 with the Atheros adapter. These two connect to the router, but not to the internetThey said to update the driver for the Atheros adapter. It is already up to date. The two compaq computers worked fine with the WRT160 router, with the same security settings.I have been able to get the Compaq computers to work only if I disaable wireless security or sign in using the Guest account that the new E1000 configures.I am VERY displeased with the Linksys product, and ESPECIALLY their poor customer service and attitude. The problem is with their router, not with the Compaq computers, since they work with all other routers.

My modem CAN connect to the Internet but my router CANNOT. I've called my ISP (Brighthouse) and went through a whole process of bypassing the router, restarting the modem for 2 minutes, and restarting the router for 30 seconds. Then I even got assistance from the router's maker (Linksys) by switching the IP address of the router, they said this could be the issue if my modem had the same IP address. I switched it to 192.168.2.1, but still no luck. I do not know what to do now. The new router is a Linksys E1000. I haven't got the specs of my modem yet.

However, I can access the internet and the router by way of another (older) desktop and two laptops.This problem occurred after powering down and unplugging both desktops before a thunder storm. Later that night I powered on and had this issue. ISP didn't have any outages in the area. [code] Network and Sharing Center displays (this computer) with a line connecting to Unidentified Network and the red x between Internet. When viewing the status of that local network connection packets are being sent but 0 are received. TCP/IPv4 and 6 Properties are set to obtain IP/DNS automatically.I don't have any additional firewall software but windows firewall is enabled.

I already made sure that the ethernet cables weren't the problem. I hook the cables up as instructed, but can't get the internet connection. I'm running Winows Vista Home Premium and according to my ISP (cable service), the ISP settings should already be set up to connect automatically with the router. It's a used router (not new) and I've already reset it several times..
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a Cisco-Linksys E3200 8 months ago and it worked well until last month. I usually power down the router after midnight & power up in the morning and evevry time it can connect to internet through DSL modem without problem until this Feb. Most of the time after powering up the router it just can't connect to internet anymore. I am sure the AT&T DSL modem is working. I have to reboot/reset the router & DSL modem several time to get router to connect to internet again. The order of resetting/rebooting DSL modem & E3200 router seems to make no difference. It just appears suddenly the router can connect to internet by chance. I changed router IP and it didn't work either. It's really annoying becuase I have to spend 10~40 minutes to resetting/rebooting DSL modem & router to get internet connection every day.Â

This problem occurred at random as well, I went to bed one night and I was connected with zero problems and when I woke up it no longer worked. It has been like this for a week now and I feel like I've tried everything, including buying a new Netgear router which didnt work either.Some basic info:
- Router is a Linksys E900
- My apartment complex provides free internet through Pavlov Media
- I can connect to the unsecured Pavlov wireless with no problem
- Before it stopped working, I had simply set up the router by plugging it into a wall ethernet jack and running the setup disc. This no longer works, it will set up the network but then I receive an error stating it is unable to connect to the internet.
i have been using a WRT54GS LINKSYS ROUTER for 2.5 years problem free until now. All of a sudden i cant connect to the internet through it at all. when i diconnect it and hook my desktop directly to the modem it works but i need the wireless to use my laptop. I have tried everything to get it working again, no dice. when using w7 diag tool it reports back local area connection doesnt have a valid ip config.

Now today after the power went out, devices cannot connect to the internet.My PC connected directly to the cable modem results in internet connectivity.My PC connected to the router allows router access through 192.168.1.1.My PC connected to the router can NOT access the internet or otherwise get out to the modem.WiFi devices in the house cannot connect to the internet, but can still access the router through 192.168.1.1.Swapping cables results in the same behavior, so the PC can connect to the modem with either cable, and the computer can connect to the router with either cable.

My problem is that whenever 2 devices have joined the wireless network, I will not be able to do so despite placing the laptop or iPhone right next to the router, hence getting excellent signal strength. Or, if I am already connected to the network, I get knocked out repeatedly. I don't think it is a hardware or software issue because I'm still able to connect and get a very stable connection after someone leaves the wireless network.This is getting frustrating and I have tried all ways and means to resolve this but to no avail. Is this about some setting that I can tweak, e.g. to allow more users onto the network? But this has already been configured to '50'!
I cant get the WRVS4400N to connect to my cable modem. The WAN link light isnt even lighting up. Im wondering if this unit is bad out of the box. Is there a setting im missing to get them to talk to one another. This is no mention in any of the manuals.

Here is what i have verified at this point: - My old router connects instantly to the modem when plugged in (Same cable) - When i plug my laptop into the WAN port on the WRVS4400N i get a link light. When i plug the modem into the WAN port...nothing.Â
When I connect the ethernet directly to my mac the internet works fine, but when I try to connect through my Linksys WRT54G2 V1 Wireless-G Broadband Router I can't connect to the internet. Omitting a few minor problems, my router has been working fine for the past year and a half. Recently it started giving me trouble so i have started trying a number of things to fix it, but I'm no expert in this category. The other day i tried updating the firmware which actually worked for a couple of hours, but then stopped working again.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am replacing a WRH54G with a WRT54G. Â First I unplugged everything and waited 5 minutes. Then I plugged my ethernet cord from the DSL modem into the WRT54G. Then I plugged in the DSL modem. I waited for the lights to stop blinking. Then I plugged in the WRT54G and waited for LEDs to show connection. Then I plugged the ethernet cord from the WRT54G to the computer. Then I turned on the computer. I was able to access the Interface for the WRT54G but I was not able to connect to the internet. I tried power cycling multiple times both the DSL modem and the WRT54G. I was unable to access the internet. Finally I plugged the WRH54G back in and everything worked fine. why the old WRH54G can connect to the internet and the WRT54G cannot?

WinXP SP3 / Win 7 when tries to connect to wireless using WEp 64 or 128 bit does not connect?
Just got the new Linksys E1000, and follow the Cisco Connect to setup. No IP received from the service provider (which is Fibre-to-the-building, no modem is required). Goto the setup page and confirmed that the connection type is "DHCP".Once i unplug the cable from E1000 (internet port) and plug into my old wireless router, everything work nicely.  The internet connection & cable itself seems fine. Switch the cable into notebook, and get the IP as well, it seems the service provider didn't lock the mac address of the devices (routuer nor PC). Cloned the mac address but nothing improved.Tried release the IP before unplug from the old router, switch off old router, and wait 10mins before connected to E1000 but still no luck.

I power recycled etc but when I connect to the router, it says limited connectivity. It shows autoconfigurtion ip:169.254.251.135. I was working before COX cable came out and has been working without problem for the past two years.When I plug the harddrive into slot 1 in the back of the router, "4" lights up. When I plut it into slot 4, "1" lights up.
