Windows 2003 R2 Server machine cannot be pinged, not XP? I'm running a highly modified version of Windows 2003 R2 to make use of an old PC. It connects beautifully to a Verizon router (I can browse the Internet), but I can't figure out how to share folders on my network. I have a Macbook and Win7 machine and both cannot see this old PC on the network. I have tried to ping the old PC from my Win7 machine, and it will only timeout. Below is some relevant output from the old PC

I'm at my wits end. We had broadband from Plusnet (uk) put in at xmas. I've had a problem with my laptop connecting wirelessly so I've run a cable from the router up to my room. All's well and I can connect to servers and play online all day to my hearts content. It all goes pairshaped though when someone connects to the internet wirelessly. As soon as the internet is accessed the network just goes. I've spoken to plusnet to see what they can see and as far as they're concerned there's no problem coming into the house. We're getting up to 12mbps which is pretty nice and as I mentioned there's no problem unless someone connects wirelessly. I've changed the channel on the router as there might be interference from a neighbours router. I thought this might have fixed the problem but it's not.

My Compaq tc1100 tablet worked perfectly, wirelessly, with our Billion BiPAC 7300NX/N ADSL2+ router, but then it just stopped doing this for no reason that I can think of. In our house is a desktop in each of the 3 bedrooms (one being mine, together with the tablet) that connect perfectly wirelessly to this same router. When I refresh the network list, then one moment it will show my network, and then seconds later when I refresh again, it will give "no networks were found in range".Switching off the router's WLAN security made no difference. Formatting and reloading XP, and installing the tablet's Wireless LAN drivers, made no difference. Moving the tablet around the house made no difference. Now, today I took my tablet with me to spend the day with my wife at her workplace, where there is a Billion wireless router as well (other model). I did not bother to first try to connect with my tablet's wireless card, but instead lent a spare D-Link DWA-125 wireless USB adapter, and connected perfectly. Later in the afternoon, out of curiosity, I started up Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector, and took a snapshot of it, which is attached here. The whole time I was connected like this, there were, in the bottom right-hand corner, two of those wireless network connection icons, one with a red cross through it.
when removing the D-Link USB adapter --- it was time to come home --- the icon with the red cross disappeared once it was pulled out; I opened IE to see what's happening, and my home page opened successfully. So, was I surfing quite fine with my tablet's own card all day?! I then shut down, switched back on (still with the D-Link removed), opened IE, and my home page appeared again successfully. I did not do any other surfing, I must admit, but just shut down again and came home, where I'm back to square-one with a continual "red-crossed icon".........Using Xirrus here on the home network, and with its "locate adapter" pinger noise thingy enabled, it will alternate between pinging for a while and then keeping quiet --- I can supply the Xirrus 500 sec history snapshot of this, if needed.Yesterday, doing a hard reset of the router *momentarily* gave me "aquiring network address", and then connection, but this soon went away again. The tablet did not have this problem with our previous Netgear router. Nothing's changed in the house: the router and my tablet have always stood where they are. There's no new cordless phones, neither. The one that we have, has always stood centimeters away from the router.

I have just arrived at a friends house to stay for a while and my laptop does not connect to the internet properly through the wireless yet works perfectly when plugged into the router directly through ethernet cable. it is not the actual router's wireless that is broken because there are three other laptops that connect and work just fine.I have done several virus scans using AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy and other than incredibar nothing has been found so i dont think it is a virus. I thought it might have been the 6to4 adapter so i disabled to no avail. The problem is not connecting to the network as that works fine and every now and again i can get 10 minutes of internet use before it stops working. most of the time still saying i am connected to the internet for an extra 5 minutes then saying i have a local only connection[CODE]

I have a strange error on my home network that I cannot find a solution to.I have an Huawei SmartAX MT882 from TalkTalk acting as a modem connected to a D-Link DSL-G624T acting as a router/switch. Connected to the D-Link I have a Windows 7 Pro machine (64-bit, SP1) and an XP (home i think) machine (sp 2 i think). The SmartAX modem is set up to perform DHCP and DNS relaying and the D-Link has DHCP turned off and DNS relay turned off.The Win7 machine can access the network, get an IP address and access the internet without problems, regardless as to the status of the XP machine. The XP machine can access the network, get an IP address and access the internet with no problems ONLY of the win7 is powered up. When the win7 machine is off, the XP machine seems to drop about 25% of the ping packets between it and the D-Link router and has no internet access (because of this i assume). [code]

New Win-7 machine set up. I used the printer set-up wizard to install a networked printer in the new machine with absolutely no problem. Proved it would print from that machine. Now, I get a call informing me that her old XP machine, which had been printing to the network printer with no problems, will no longer print.Documents go into the print queue, but they don't get printed. No error messages show up.I did some messing around via remote access, and finally removed the printer with the intention of reinstalling it.Scanning for network printers turned up several redundant instances of the same printer with different names. Some are identified as "invalid" some a "access denied". Bottom line. I can't get any of the selections to install. On the Win-7 machine I did find a window that indicated that the printer is designated as being shared, but I didn't explicitly set it for sharing when I installed it. Also, I somehow got to a window that told me that for printers that were to be shared with other versions of windows I could optionally install drivers to support such machines. Didn't have the driver disk handy and took the window down. Now I can't even find it again.I need sorting this all out.Part of the problem is that out there in "network land" there are redundant remnants of previous installations that are being remembered inappropriately.

I have a network problem. My windows 7 machine is not detecting win xp machine whereas win xp machine is detecting win 7 machine. They are in the same workgroup named Home. And the networking system is set to work. I have left the homegroup I was previously in. I enabled file sharing for devices that use 40 bit and 50 bit encryption. On XP I have enabled NetBios over TCP/IP. File sharing is enabled on both computers. I think it's something obvious as both instalations on different computers are really fresh and both windows haven't been tampered with.

I need to configure two voice-enabled cisco routers, each one has an analog FAX machine. The routers are connected with a serial connection. In the end, the faxes should be able to fax to each other. The fax uses RJ-11 and I've established that I will be configuring FSX ports. (These ports are used for analog devices such as telephones, modems, and fax machines). I am unable to find a single site that gives information about specifically configuring fax machines.

Just got TL-MR3040 from amazon, not very happy that it is version 1, they could at least mention it in the description, but whatever...The problem is, i can not make it work with my PC laptop(thinkpad x120e with Windows 7 64 bit). Which means,1 not possible to get into web interface to configure it, and 2 if i configure it with old powerbook (os x 10.4) to share internet from usb stick, i can connect to it's wireless network but it doesn't share internet with my pc laptop, while mac and ipad working perfect...I've try to log in into web interface through the cable, still no luck...Not sure i want to re-install the whole system on my laptop just to see if it will change anything, it works with any other router, and usb sticks...

My older Inspiron XP laptop will not connect to internet but connects to router. Local business tech said it was probably the hard drive & wanted to install new hard drive ($260). I feel perhaps I need to update driver for wireless modem, etc. But since I cannot connect to internet, I have no way of updating (I'm using my newer Windows 7 laptop currently which does connect thru the router). Can I download a driver onto a flash drive & install that way? Also, is there a way I can test the XP computer by connecting directly to the router with a cable & if so what kind of cable do I use to check if it will connect? I'm trying to research any possibility of fixing this XP computer because it's too expensive to fix hard drive. Also, everything else works on XP laptop, except Norton which needs to update & cannot without connection.

It says unidentified connection when we connect to the network, and when we go to the "connect to" and connect to the network i setup it will sometimes say "with limited access"!?I have used the diagnose tools on his computer. I have restarted his computer, the modem and the router. We have disconnected and reconnected several times to the network for the new router but nothing works, the only way he can get on the internet with this router is if plugged directly to it with an ethernet cable. We have put the old router back up but I really don't want to keep using it, it is so old and I don't remember the password for it.

I have two mac laptops and am trying to copy a directory with a number of PDFs in it. The files aren't particularly large, but there are many of them. At some point in the process the router stops and must be turned off and on before it will respond again either wirelessly or wired. I have tried the same experiment with both devices wired and the router works fine. I have tried changing the MTU, channel, beacon setting, etc. as other forum posts have tried. I tried reflashing the firmware, resetting to factory defaults and reconfiguring. So far no success. Cisco support wants me to return the router. Frankly I'm at the point of considering the former Linksys/Cisco products complete rubbish. I am going to have to buy a new router even if I return this one since I can't be without a router for any length of time.

I saw a thread from early 2010 which described the issue I am currently having to a T. I am on a Belkin Wireless G with Mimo router and it runs perfectly either on LAN or WLAN, until my new roommate's MacBook gets on there at the same time. As soon as the MAC connects, I get a blue screen of death and the PC restarts. I have been battling this issue for over a week now and have absolutely narrowed it down to the Mac/wireless area.
I have already uninstalled/reinstalled my wireless drivers and thought that had fixed the issue(it worked fine for 4 days), until the roommate returned from out of town and connected the Mac to the Wireless....then WAMMO, like clockwork, back came the BSoD. This seems like a very unique problem, as I have done many searches online and the one I mentioned on here is the only one I could find that accurately described my issue.
For reference, I have posted the link to the previous case below. Unfortunately, no solutions, other than reinstall drivers (which I have already done) are posted. I tried everything in that thread and my settings appear to all be the same as his. Is it possible this is just some rare Windows 7 glitch that has never been resolved?

We have a Belkin N300 router connected to the internet through a cable modem(Comcast). Up until yesterday it worked fine for all the devices connected. But now whenever my brother's laptop connects(wireless) to the network it makes the router lose connection to the internet so all the devices connected lose connection, too obviously. Everything shows connected to the router, but the router releases it's DHCP whenever he connects. As soon as he turns off his wifi or manually chooses to disconnect... the internet fires right back up within a minute or so. We have no idea what is causing this. We did notice that his laptop was trying to connect with IPV6 while everything else was using IPV4

my laptop only connects to the internet when the router is off, then switched on. If the router is on when I turn my laptop on it won't connect, but it always connects when I do it the other way around. Other devices (like phones) connect to the internet via the same router flawlessly, it's just the laptop that, for some reason, needs to be on first.

I have and issue that is bugging me a bit. I have a DSL connection that also is set up with TV also through the ISP modem. I also have 2 phones connected to wall jacks with DSL filters and made sure they both have 4 wire phone lines. I replaced the 2 wire phone line to modem with a 4 wire one. The desk top is connected to modem wired and internet works. There are 3 other slots but they are for TV box's that this company uses (CTC) I bought a Netgear router tried that several times called and ISP stated they won't work with Netgear.Ok so bought a Linksys E 1000 wasn't able to get that one to work either. Brought to another person's place and works fine. Connected back and only way to get to work wired to desk top is to have internet coming on on line 1 and compter on line 2. I can connect to router wirelessly to the routers main page but no interent. I can connect to the neighbors wireless internet so I have to believe that it's not the phones in the place. I can also run a wire from router to laptop and go on internet but does not work wirelessly.
