View 4 RepliesI have two Aironet 1242AG access points. Currently, one of those access points is in use with an SSID of ABCWIFI.
I want to extend the wireless network to an area that can't be reached by copper or fiber. So, I've purchased another 1242AG. What I'm not sure of is how to configure it. Should I use it as a repeater or in a root-bridge/non-root bridge configuration?
What I'm most confused about is, what do I do with the second radio? Do I use the 5Ghz as the "backhaul" with a completely separate SSID and then broadcast the normal SSID over the 2.4Ghz? Or, do I even use the second radio at all? The key is that the same SSID is used in all locations because the devices in use need to move seemlessly between access points
i would like to know that how can I route two network in two different location over the internet?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI'm no network security expert but have been asked to "investigate" someone who has been connecting their personal laptop to the company network and using our internet to do "questionable" activities.
Basically I have this information taken from our domain controller's logs:
- DHCP address that was leased to the laptop at the time of the "infractions".
- Computer name of the laptop.
- Precise date and time of when this person was connected to our network.
Based on the DCHP address, I can somewhat narrow it down to a few different switches at different locations in the building, but there's no way to pinpoint it exactly. If I can figure out which switch they connected to, I would know who did it.
I am considering running stacked 3750 L3 switches as the edge of the network, which will connect to the ISP. The ISP would hand off two lines with one to each switch and two lines to each client zone. Does running HSRP, running port channels, or running routing protocols seem like the best option for redundancy?
Lastly, will the 3750 provide all the QoS I should need for restricting each client zone's bandwidth both up and down? Could I get away with a lower model and still get these features?
I ve read, that Cisco routers/switches drop the entries of their ARP cache after 4 hours and of the MAC cache after 5 minutes (in the defaults).Question: What is the regular way, to update the MAC cache when moving to another location in the network?(Background: My device is a hand-held device, and we have problems to get access to it from a terminal server in another network, when connecting the hand-held device at different locations.) One approach is to send in a fix interval a arp-ping to the gateway, or trigger the ping by the interface-up.How do other devices handles this problem? (Or do they ignore it, because the most will stay on its location/port their whole live?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been working with a friend set up a brand new laptop with Win-7 Home Premium (64 bit) preinstalled. I did the initial set-up at my home, with the machine connected via broadband internet cable to my router. I had absolutely no problem getting it to connect with the internet. Didn't bother to try getting the thing going wirelessly at my location. During the initial setup, I selected "home" as the network type (as opposed to public, etc.)But, when I took the machine to the owner's home, it wouldn't connect via her broadband modem.
Mousing over the network icon in the tray area brings up a tool-tip baloon, "Unidentified Network, No internet access). Opening the Sharing Center shows the network as "Unidentified Network, Public Network. None of the settings accessible to me from that point seemed useful or relevant.I have not been able to find appropriate settings to redefine the network type, etc. Her old machine, which is in the process of dying, is still able to connect, and I'm using the same cable to connect both machines. To top it off, I very recently upgraded my own laptop to Win-7, so I took it over there and it exhibits the same problem. And, if I bring her machine back to my house it connects right up with no fuss at all.
I have one user who doesn't receive a beep when he reaches an internal DN's voicemail. You will hear the attendant say that the person is not available and then the recorded name, but there's never a beep and consequently cannot leave a voicemail.

i am installing a CWLMS 4.0 and everything was good until i have reached the discovery for the devices, i am dealing with a bank setup and the branches is connected using layer 3 MPLS, branches are located behind the ISP router, so as a cdp neighbor i cant see anything but the ISP router at my Core.
so i cant see the branches routers as neighbors to my (seed Device) Core, and i have tried to use the ping sweep and i could not reach them also. and also to add them manually as we were doing before in the earlier versions of CWLMS, using the Devices and Credintials, this option is removed from the LMS 4.0 as i have red in a document.
1- snmp is configured on all devices.
2- access-list is configured on all devices.
3- i am able to reach the LAN Devices without any problems and the configuration is the same on all of the devices.

I have a ME-3400EG-12CS-M switch the ports 13 thru 16 have sfp's and are connection to other 3560 switches over fiber. The GIG 0/1 on the 3400 connects to the long haul sonet transport electrically. The IOS is Version 12.2(55)SE3. I can't ping or log into the 3400 unless I am at one of the 3560 switches hanging off of the NNI ports 13 thru 16. I think it is because the max number of NNI ports are 4 and I can't change the GIG 0/1 to a NNI port. Can I make config changes to the UNI port so that it will act like a NNI port with out upgrading the IOS to allow for more NNI ports?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am working in an environment with 6 4402 all running 6.0.119.4 code and WCS 6.0.196.0. I keep getting an alert from WCS that the controllers cannot be reached "Controller '10.x.x.x' is unreachable. - Controller Name: 'Name'"
Now when I go to access the WLC through HTTPS I have no access at all but controller still responds to ICMP, HTTP, Telnet, SSH. I know I should have HTTP and Telnet disabled but since HTTPS keeps failing I would have no way to get into the controller. Is this a known issue in the 6.0.199.4 code? should I consider upgrading? The only fix I have found to work is to disable HTTPS reboot controller enable HTTPS and reboot again.
We have a 2960 switch (switch2), whose Management IP cannot be reached/Ping'd. Could not Ping . We have checked the following, but still no clue on the root cause. Haven't tried a reboot yet.
Topology.
All switches are cascaded through trunk and allows all v lan's.
L3switch1 <-> switch1 <-> switch2 <-> switch3 <-> L3switch2
Switch 2 has correct ARP entries for the other switches that we try to ping.Mac address table is fine.Switches other than Switch 2 has proper ARP and Mac entries. This Mgmt v lan is not pruned across any trunks. (we are able to ping switch3 crossing switch2 when tried from switch1)Switches are running PVST and convergence is fine.No access list to deny the traffic.Tried sut/no shut on the V lan interface.
But still switch 2 could not be reached.
I want to be able to send snmp traps to my NMS alerting our NOC to when we reach our configured max-associations on an ap. We currently use both 1130 AG and 1140-2N in autonomous mode, no controller. I have found a debug command "debug dot11 station connection failure" and the output of a test AP shows us the fact that the maximum number was reached. I need to find if it is possible to trap on such information.

We have several site-to-site IPSec VPN's setup.
All are running on ASA's 8.2(1).
All have a Security Association Lifetime (Time) of 8 hours.
All have a Security Association Lifetime (Traffic Volum) of 4608000 KiloBytes.
We have an issue when we do Oracle logshipping between the sites.
This triggers the Traffic Volume rekey as can be seen by this entry in the logs: -
%ASA-7-702307: IPSEC: An inbound L2L SA (SPI= 0x169FA1C1) between and (user= ) is rekeying due to data rollover.
However it does not appear as if the renegotiation is occurring properly. Within 10 to 15 minutes data stops being transmitted along the link, even though the IPSec tunnel still appears up in the ASDM GUI.
The 'fix' for this is that we are using is to login to the ASDM GUI and bounce the link by going to Monitoring => VPN => VPN Statistics => Sessions => IPSec Site-to-Site. Then select the appropriate VPN tunnel and click on 'Logout'. This forces a link renegotiation which works fine.
I have attached a logfile from the local ASA (there's nothing in the logfile of the remote ASA until we bounce the VPN tunnel).
I can only access a server for my work with the IP I have at home. Is there any way I can be at another location and somehow get to that server with the home IP? I suppose I would have to set up a proxy at home and then connect to it from the other location, so it would make no difference to the server if I'm somewhere else? Am I thinking in the right direction? How would I set that up?

I have a particular question, and I get different answers from different tech people and salespersons at Fry's and Best Buy.
Here's my dilemma: my business partner works from home, while I am in the office using a Windows 7 desktop. This desktop contains most of the files. There are many times when he needs to access the files, so I have to e-mail them to him. It's become a distraction and slows down our work process. My question is what's the best solution to remedy this? What's the best way to share files and work independently of each other? Do we need to get a server? We're trying to keep down costs and I've seen that they can run pretty expensive. Do we need a NAS? Can we use another desktop computer as a "server"?

The networking card is an Intel 82566DC-2 Gigabit Network Connection Adapter. The Networking card is part of the Motherboard. I have the original drivers but they will not install due to the "Invalid Access To Memory Location". Anyhow my son went and bought a new networking card, and it gives the exact same error. I tried uninstalling the networking card in the device manager, but when the hardware is reinstalled, and the drivers are about to install it gives the same error. computer is a Dell XPS 420 with 6 gigs of RAM, an Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600@2.40GHz Also in the Device Manager everything under the Heading Network Adapters has a Yellow Triangle with an Exclamation mark in it. I also want to add that when I checked the Netgear GA311 Network adapter card (this is the new card that my son bought)in the Device Manager it says This Device is not working properly because windows cannot load the drivers required for this device (code 31).
