Cisco VPN :: RV180W Remote Gateway Wasn't Reached
Mar 3, 2013
I am trying to setup QuickVPN on my RV180W and having no luck. My client log shows "Remote gateway wasn't reached" "Failed to connect". The client is Win7 64-bit. I have created the firewall rule for icmpv4 on my windows 7 client but still no luck. I checked with my ISP and they say all ports are open. I have created the VPN user.

I've got two RV082's connected. Each has a dynamic IP (changes typically every few weeks). I've configured the tunnels on both ends with a local and remote "Remote/Local Security Gateway Type" of "Dynamic IP + Domain Name(FQDN) Authentication".If I look at the VPN Summary tunnel status, it shows an IP address of "mydomain.dyndns.org 0.0.0.0" under the "Remote Gateway" column heading. The Tunnel Test "Connect" button is N/A.I can resolve both of the mydomain.dyndns.org entries on both sides of each VPN using the Diagnostic DNS lookup tool within each router. If I hardwire a fixed IP address for the Local and Remote Gateway everything works just fine. VPN is good.
I just can't seem to get the "mydomain.dyndns.org" function to work. It appears the router can't resolve the dynamic IP from the domain names on each of the routers.

I updated my RV180W to the latest firmware and found that port forwarding works I started using it.I've just noticed that since changing over to the RV180W, my Apacher server logs show the router's IP address instead of the remote IP address - every remote request appears to come from 192.168.0.1.
How do I get it to forward the remote IP.

.I modified my hosts file one time in order to get a website that wasn't working because it moved IPs....I inserted the website's IP address in there, since that was what someone else told me to do. There was also one other website I couldn't visit, and cannot even now...the website name is animefansftw.com (lol i'm a nerd xD) and so....I was thinking maybe that had something to do with me tampering my hosts file. I want to restore it, but I don't know how to do so.

I would like to ask if what is the difference between RV180W-E-K9-G5 and RV180W-A-K9-NA specifically the -E and the -A. As far as I know -A is the compliance code for Philippines. Am I right? If yes, what about -E? There is a documentation for wireless complaince on Aeronet devices but what about these SB products?

Im having trouble with getting my VPN to work on my brand new WRVS4400N router. i cant find the solution to my problem, no matter how much i read about it.
WRVS4400N:
Firmware Version: V2.0.0.8-ETSI
QuickVPN:
Version: 1.4.1.2
The laptop im trying to connect to the gateway via VPN is a Windows 7 x64 HP Elitebook 8540p with a internal mobile broadband (HSPA+)So.The scenario is that i've installed the QuickVPN client on my Win7-machine without any trouble.I've created a user in the web-administration of the router. The router is configured to disable "Block WAN requests" in the firewall, apart from that the firewall is on.When trying to connect - with a valid certificate that i created, i get a error message after the dialog telling me "Verifying network":"The remote gateway is not responding. Do you want to wait?".
The log.txt tells me:
...2010/10/06 00:00:28 [STATUS]Verifying Network...2010/10/06 00:00:34 [WARNING]Failed to ping remote VPN Router!2010/10/06 00:00:37 [WARNING]Failed to ping remote VPN Router!2010/10/06 00:00:40 [WARNING]Failed to ping remote VPN Router!2010/10/06 00:00:43 [WARNING]Failed to ping remote VPN Router!2010/10/06 00:00:46 [WARNING]Failed to ping remote VPN Router!2010/10/06 00:00:49 [WARNING]Ping was blocked, which can be caused by an unexpected disconnect.2010/10/06 00:02:13 [STATUS]Disconnecting...

As shown in the diagram below, I have a central office and two branch offices, these offices are connected by a private routing service that has no connection to the Internet, the telecommunications operator in each office installs a router with a LAN and a WAN IP and configuration of these devices cannot be changed except the LAN IP. Only the central office network that is 192.168.0.0 have a router that has internet access. Remote offices have no access to the internet, what is needed is that remote offices can access the internet using ADSL router 192.168.0.254 at the central office. There are a small devices in each remote office that must connect to the internet and do not support any configuration except IP, mask and gateway, for example you cannot add a static route. Currently the pcs at remote offices has IP communication with the server from the central office using a static route.Does the solution would be to put some VPN routers between each LAN and the operator's routers (where RT yellow star appears in the diagram) and put the hosts of the two branch offices same IP range that the central office network?

I have a RV180 router and i am trying to use the Quick VPN Client version 1.4.2.1. It works fine on my Windows 7 pc, and worked successfully once on the windows XP sp3 pc. But now the XP pc will not work.
What looks strange is in the VPN Client Connection Status on the router I see the status is Online, however the XP pc will not ping anything on the network or connect to the RDP pc i want. The QuickVPN Client hangs on "Verifying Network".
I tried the suggestions i saw online:
Disabling Firewall
Enabling Firewall
Making user name shorter
Allowing for PING on WAN (replies all come back fast)
Reboot Router
Upgraded firmware to 1.0.1.9
I did not adjust the MTU rate as i was not sure what to change it too. AV is AVG 2012.

ASA 8.3(2) 5505
I've configured a number of remote access vpns on ASAs, but I don't recall having a default gateway setting assigned after logging in.
Is there a way to disable the assignment of a default gateway upon login?
The value assigned is meaningless. It's just the next available address in the local pool.

I've just set-up one of the RV220W VPN solutions. This worked fine for a while, but now it reports the remote gateway is not responding. Other clients can connect, but not the computer I'm using at home.
Log file reports:
2011/08/31 21:10:31 [STATUS]Success to connect.
2011/08/31 21:10:31 [STATUS]Tunnel is configured. Ping test is about to start.
2011/08/31 21:10:31 [STATUS]Verifying Network...
[code]...
I've tried the most common stuff. Enabling ICMP, checked that remote administration runs on port 443, changed MTU to 1400 manually, It allows fragmented packages too. Checked that IKE and IP Sec services are running. I've also tried both with windows firewall ON and OFF. A colleague of mine had the same problem in the same time frame as me, but after a while - he suddenly was able to connect. I still can't!!
Firmware Version: 1.0.2.4
Edit: IP is not real.

We have 2 remote locations that are connecting to a server at our home location. Each remote computer uses quickvpn utility to establish a vpn with the home location. Our problem is that sometimes the vpn disconnects while we are working in remote desktop on server 2008. Luckily our sessions in remote desktop stay put but we lose the vpn connection. Most of the time we get a message that the remote gateway is not responding. Our dsl internet connection seems to work and we have previously had no trouble with connecting to the home location. We have 3 computers that connect simultaneously to the server at each remote location and sometimes one computer will stay connected while others disconnect.

I run a cisco asa 5510 and I want to know how to configure the asa to let some of AAA users navigate through the remote gateway (with remote public ip).I've already configure ipsec, ssl group policy, and I know I can disable split tunneling. I do it but remote users (connected with ipsec vpn cisco client) could access remote LAN but when they try to navigate through internet, there's no ip connection.
Do I have to configure some NAT ? I've already configure some rules to let the vpn ip pool go to the internet.I just want my remote users to navigate on internet through the vpn tunnel and the remote gateway (the asa).Do I have to setup some proxy ?

I've recently installed a new WRT610N router onto my small business network. Previously my network was as follows: Modem - Server - LAN where the server acts as a gateway using routing and remote access.
The addition to the setup now has the router between the modem and the server itself. After configuring everything - and DISABLING the router firewall and as last resort opening the server to the DMZ i'm having serious issues opening specific ports but not others.
To be specific - the server is sitting in the DMZ open right now. In my routing and remote access any port that I have being forwarded over to another computer is open from the internet with no issues. The problem lies with ports that need to be opened on the server itself with 127.0.0.1 where i'm getting a "connection timed out" from canyouseeme.org.
Why the local opening of ports is having issue? Before the router was installed everything worked great - however the router is needed for wifi and it cannot be configured as an access point only.

i am installing a CWLMS 4.0 and everything was good until i have reached the discovery for the devices, i am dealing with a bank setup and the branches is connected using layer 3 MPLS, branches are located behind the ISP router, so as a cdp neighbor i cant see anything but the ISP router at my Core.
so i cant see the branches routers as neighbors to my (seed Device) Core, and i have tried to use the ping sweep and i could not reach them also. and also to add them manually as we were doing before in the earlier versions of CWLMS, using the Devices and Credintials, this option is removed from the LMS 4.0 as i have red in a document.
1- snmp is configured on all devices.
2- access-list is configured on all devices.
3- i am able to reach the LAN Devices without any problems and the configuration is the same on all of the devices.

I am just setting up a simple scenario with a 1841. Server @ 172.31.1.1 cannot ping 172.31.0.254 or 172.31.0.105. It can ping 172.31.1.250. The router can, on the other hand, ping devices on both networks. This is just for testing routing theory so I don't know why hosts on either side of the network cannot ping each other.
I am only using the FastEthernet interfaces on Router 1841.

I have a ME-3400EG-12CS-M switch the ports 13 thru 16 have sfp's and are connection to other 3560 switches over fiber. The GIG 0/1 on the 3400 connects to the long haul sonet transport electrically. The IOS is Version 12.2(55)SE3. I can't ping or log into the 3400 unless I am at one of the 3560 switches hanging off of the NNI ports 13 thru 16. I think it is because the max number of NNI ports are 4 and I can't change the GIG 0/1 to a NNI port. Can I make config changes to the UNI port so that it will act like a NNI port with out upgrading the IOS to allow for more NNI ports?

I am working in an environment with 6 4402 all running 6.0.119.4 code and WCS 6.0.196.0. I keep getting an alert from WCS that the controllers cannot be reached "Controller '10.x.x.x' is unreachable. - Controller Name: 'Name'"
Now when I go to access the WLC through HTTPS I have no access at all but controller still responds to ICMP, HTTP, Telnet, SSH. I know I should have HTTP and Telnet disabled but since HTTPS keeps failing I would have no way to get into the controller. Is this a known issue in the 6.0.199.4 code? should I consider upgrading? The only fix I have found to work is to disable HTTPS reboot controller enable HTTPS and reboot again.

We have a 2960 switch (switch2), whose Management IP cannot be reached/Ping'd. Could not Ping . We have checked the following, but still no clue on the root cause. Haven't tried a reboot yet.
Topology.
All switches are cascaded through trunk and allows all v lan's.
L3switch1 <-> switch1 <-> switch2 <-> switch3 <-> L3switch2
Switch 2 has correct ARP entries for the other switches that we try to ping.Mac address table is fine.Switches other than Switch 2 has proper ARP and Mac entries. This Mgmt v lan is not pruned across any trunks. (we are able to ping switch3 crossing switch2 when tried from switch1)Switches are running PVST and convergence is fine.No access list to deny the traffic.Tried sut/no shut on the V lan interface.
But still switch 2 could not be reached.

I want to be able to send snmp traps to my NMS alerting our NOC to when we reach our configured max-associations on an ap. We currently use both 1130 AG and 1140-2N in autonomous mode, no controller. I have found a debug command "debug dot11 station connection failure" and the output of a test AP shows us the fact that the maximum number was reached. I need to find if it is possible to trap on such information.

I have two Aironet 1242AG access points. Currently, one of those access points is in use with an SSID of ABCWIFI.
I want to extend the wireless network to an area that can't be reached by copper or fiber. So, I've purchased another 1242AG. What I'm not sure of is how to configure it. Should I use it as a repeater or in a root-bridge/non-root bridge configuration?
What I'm most confused about is, what do I do with the second radio? Do I use the 5Ghz as the "backhaul" with a completely separate SSID and then broadcast the normal SSID over the 2.4Ghz? Or, do I even use the second radio at all? The key is that the same SSID is used in all locations because the devices in use need to move seemlessly between access points

We have several site-to-site IPSec VPN's setup.
All are running on ASA's 8.2(1).
All have a Security Association Lifetime (Time) of 8 hours.
All have a Security Association Lifetime (Traffic Volum) of 4608000 KiloBytes.
We have an issue when we do Oracle logshipping between the sites.
This triggers the Traffic Volume rekey as can be seen by this entry in the logs: -
%ASA-7-702307: IPSEC: An inbound L2L SA (SPI= 0x169FA1C1) between and (user= ) is rekeying due to data rollover.
However it does not appear as if the renegotiation is occurring properly. Within 10 to 15 minutes data stops being transmitted along the link, even though the IPSec tunnel still appears up in the ASDM GUI.
The 'fix' for this is that we are using is to login to the ASDM GUI and bounce the link by going to Monitoring => VPN => VPN Statistics => Sessions => IPSec Site-to-Site. Then select the appropriate VPN tunnel and click on 'Logout'. This forces a link renegotiation which works fine.
I have attached a logfile from the local ASA (there's nothing in the logfile of the remote ASA until we bounce the VPN tunnel).

I picked up a pair of RV220W's and before I spent loads of time at a remote site, I figured I'd go through some VPN testing at home to make sure I could get it setup properly. What this means is I've plugged the Internet uplink into a switch, then from the switch into both routers & configured them (using unique static IP's for each) from there. For what its worth: While I have some IT experience, I don't have strong networking experience.
I setup several VLAN's on the local RV220W, and the end result is to make it so that an asset at the remote site with an IP in any of the ranges (192.168.121.0/24, 192.168.131.0/24, 192.168.141.0/24 and any future VLANs) can communicate with/access resouces at the local site. Likewise, an asset at the local site with an IP in any of the ranges (.121, .131, .141 + any future VLANs) should be able to reach the remote resources (currently just 192.168.181.0/24, but future VLANs as well).
This evening I tried to focus on the relevant VPN pages of the Administration Guide to get the VPN up. Leaving the defaults I got as far as establishing a link between both sites and it seems that things are working right: From the remote site (.181) I can access the local site (.121, .131, .141); and from the local site I can at least ping resources (a laptop) on the remote site. (Yay!)
However, when I physically connected an asset that had a 192.168.121.X, 192.168.131.X and 192.168.141.X IP addresses to the remote RV220W (which is 192.168.181.0/24), I couldn't see it from the remote or local sites.I assume this is expected. But I'm reaching out to the community to see what other possibilities might be available becuase networking is a weak area for me. I figured it might be something like a Static [or Dynamic] Route but I really am not 100% sure.
'TECHNICAL' SPECS
Local Router LAN/WAN Settings:
LAN IP: 192.168.121.1 on default VLAN (1)
