My computer still feels like its lagging slightly when Im playing games, a little jitter here and there. I always have below 50 ping but I was just wondering if there is anything that can be done?
View 4 RepliesI've recently replaced my router with this Belkin (F5D7230uk4) Router, (this one without the wireless reciever Whenever it's used for online gaming, either on my computer, my playstation 3, or my brothers computer the router will lose connection after about 5minutes, then return within about 30 seconds. This happens every single time without exception, and have not been able to play for longer than 10minutes on any occasion since changing the router. I've tried connecting straight to the modem and it all functions correctly with no problems, so I am certain that it is something that needs to be setup with the router. I've searched many forums and posts from people having similar problems, and followed instructions to disable router firewall, disabled UPnP and NAT etc with absolutely no success whatsoever.

The connection speed is spotty and fluctuates between downloading at around 100-200kBs and having a ping of around 30 in online games (rare) or download rates measure in bytes (normal). Google takes about 10 seconds to load and I can't access steam. I was wondering if this was due to the length of the cable running the length of the garden (about 20m) or some other issue - it is not the computer as I get the same result with my laptop and my desktop, both of which have no trouble when connecting in the main house.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI originally installed my DIR-655 as a wireless access point, not using the wired ports at all, and it worked fine like this. Trouble with my trying to set up my Bell router/modem with port forwarding prompted me to change my configuration so my Bell router /modem is now only a modem, and I am using the DIR-655 as a wired as well as wireless router. I have a separate network server and so don't use the DHCP on the DIR-655, and I only use one port to connect to a separate gigabit switch that serves the network.
I am finding that the wireless connection works really well with the few wireless devices I have connected (mainly an apple tv, and a MAC book) but my wired connections to the internet "feel" slow, sometimes with a significant delay before links to sites are established. I click a link, and wait for several seconds before the site shows up in the browser; sometimes after that the same site seems to respond at normal speeds, other times there are added delays.
Is there something in the DIR-655 settings that would cause this? The wireless connections seem fine.
Should I be looking at a new router/modem (rather than separate boxes)? If so what would be the equivalent D-Link model?
I have an E1200 acting soley as an AP. Everything works just fine, but when I try to copy files from one wired computer(both Windows 7) to another one on the same router(the E1200 in this case), the network utilization is only about 4%. If I take one of the computers off its wired connection and make it wireless, the utilization goes up to about 50%. Also if I take one of the compuyters off this router, and make a wired connection to my main router(which is connected via a wired connection to the E1200), the network utilization goes up to 50%.

My problem is the slow connection between mac and router - only 100Mbit (ethernet port on mac is 1Gbit), strange thing... my NAS have 1Gbit with no problem, and the mac is not. I trying manual configure - forcing speed to 1Gbit, but then is no connection at all. I'm also trying changing wires, but no change. Im buying special ethernet cable cat 6 - also no change. Changing ports on router - result the same.

Users have to wait something like a 30 sec for a website..I descovered that the reason for slow internet connection is DENY rule. After disbling DENY rule everything works fine..Now I have a few rules added to firewall:

I have a Netgear N600 WNDR3700v1 Dual Band Gigabit router and am having a problem with the wired connection with my PC. Everything wireless in the house works fine. In fact, I also have a Direct TV box hooked up for on demand and a sling box hooked up (both wired) and they work find. It's just my PC that is having issues. If I bypass the router and hook straight into the modem, it runs fine also so I have something going on between the router and this PC. I updated the NIC driver and this did not work. Before the update in the device manager, it said it was a NIVIDA nForce Network Controller (if I remember right) and now it says NIVIDA nForce 10/100 Mpbs Ethernet. It was suggested that I change my speed and duplex to match the router after I update but I am unsure what to change it to.

My comcast internet is now slower than 14.4 dial up modem I had 16 years ago. The strange thing is I can sometimes download at over 2 mbps with torrents. It's mainly loading websites where the speed is so bad.

I've just bought a TP-Link TL_WR1043ND and when I was configuring the wireless settings first I had a +- 40Mbps connection,a little later the connection dropped to 4Mbps and was constantly dropping the speed.Sometimes it went to 15Mbps and then it drops back to 4Mbps.Right now its only 1Mbps.

I have recently had trouble with my wireless D-link WBR-1310 Router. Two days ago everything was working fine, my wireless connection from the router to my macbook was fine and the wired connection to my desktop pc was also fine. I went to bed and when I woke up the next day everything was still ok. About 3 hours after I had first turned on the PC that next day my wired connection started spiking and dropping connection frequently, maybe every 5-10 minutes or so. I play world of warcraft and I also use Mumble VoiP Program and my pings in both are over 800 constantly now making it impossible to stay connected to either program. Sometimes it will drop down to regular numbers (25-50ms, I play on eastern servers as I am in NY) but then rapidly jumps back up into the 1,000's. My wireless connection is still fine though nothing has happened to that, only my wired connection is messing up.
I've tried changing my speed and duplex settings on my onboard NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet which is what im using but it hasn't worked. When connecting directly through the modem the problem seems to stop so its definitely the router.

Normally it works fine with no problems, but a few days ago I started getting a connectivity issue. When playing games, even games that don't use the internet connection at all, and ONLY playing games (it's fine as I type this, I'm even dling something in the background), the connection will be lost, and the thing will immediately reaquire the signal and reconnect, the whole process takes like 20 seconds. The result is it's impossible to play games, I get 10k ms lag spikes every couple minutes that last for about 30 seconds, and if I'm playing most server based games (Steam Source games) I just get disconnected outright.

I can't connect directly to the modem because it's my roommates internet and it's connected to her computer so my only option is wireless or to connect directly via adapter that goes through the power outlets in the house. It's getting very annoying skipping around and it's almost impossible to play diablo 3 with this lag. I notice I drop a lot of packets when pinging to the diablo 3 server and I don't know why.

Everything works and I don't have trouble accessing the internet and I always get 5 bars, but whenever I play a game online it will disconnect me after a while. Sometimes it disconnects me after 5 minutes and sometimes after 30 minutes. The only games I play are Arma 2 and Garry's mod and I have the same problem with both games. The weird thing is that I talk to friends on steam when we are playing and it doesn't get disconnected I can hear them fine, and my internet access bar at the lower right doesn't say I'm disconnected. Streaming and downloading work as well. I have no idea what to do, we got a new router because the old one was faulty and we called our isp and they said there was nothing wrong on their end it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a WAP54G in my basement shop, wired to our main router upstairs, which is a Linksys BEFSR81. I'm not sure if this is an issue with the WAP or the router.
I only use the laptop computer in the shop every couple of days, but I leave the laptop plugged in and on most of the time. I used to have the power settings such that it didn't power down completely even after a long time. With that setup, if i didn't use the computer for several days, it would find that the connection to the router had died. The wireless link would report that it had a solid connection, but I couldn't connect to anything. Power cycling the WAP always fixed this.
Recently, I decided to save some wear & tear on the laptop drive, and adjusted the power settings to go to standby after a couple of hours. Now, it seems I can't even go one day without losing my connection.
I am running the latest frimware in the WAP, and the router is version 3.1. I can't check the firmware version on the router at the moment, because the web interface is giving me a blank screen. I know from past experience that I will have to power cycle it to get it to talk to me again.
In any event, it seems like the router connection to the WAP is timing out. I set the router "client lease time" up to 10000 a while back when I first had this problem, but that is clearly not doing the trick.
I noticed after setting up the router. My download speed has dropped.

However, if I try loading the same webpages a few minutes later, they will being loading fast again. It seems as if my internet is periodically slowing down. Using speedtest.net, it shows 10Mbps download and 9Mbps upload. However, sometimes when I run speedtest again, the download portion will hang and the test won't complete.My internet provider is COX Communications. I do not think I am using a router as it is university provided internet so I connect my Ethernet directly into the wall jack.

My wife and daughters computers, which are wireless, see now slowdown. My computer is connected to the router thru the ethernet connection. The previous computer using win xp - 32, plugged into the same router had no unusual speed problems. I did turn off the windows 7 firewall. Problem is that the XP machines can download 25Mbsp on speedtest.net but the Win 7 only manages 5Mbps through dir-655 -- ALL WIRED CONNECTS!. Connect Win 7 directly to modem and d/l is 30Mbps 2 hour Netflex test of wireless indicates good performance. D-Link support had me going in circles for a while until I finally suggested that a firmware update was in order. They assured me that this had been id'd as a problem and that latest firmwire would certainly solve it. It did not.
Just bought a dir-655, set it up (all though the wizard wasn't working, it kept getting stuck on step 5 of 7) so I just configured everything manually.I'm getting 2.4 MB/s speeds wirelessly.I was expecting much better, my wireless g linksys router did just slightly lower than that. My xbox 360 can't even stream HD without buffering every few mins. It also will just stop, and be unable to see the media for a couple minutes (when doing HD).I have wireless setup as WPA2, and the devices I use wirelessly are N devices. I have the router setup to only use wireless N.

On my E2000 I get approximately 60Mbps down and approximately 2Mbps up, and when switching over to the EA4500, I can only manage about 20Mbps down and about 2Mbps up. While streaming videos, a few second long pause is really, distracting, this is a deal breaker and my previous router (DIR-655) had no issue streaming any videos. Whoa, 10 ms over gigabit LAN. This is crazy, but doesn't tell us much. The 10 ms was one out of hundreds of pings, so its only intermittent. This might explain the hiccups, but this router doesn't appear to log anything, so its hard to say.Next was scp transfers, which never exceed 15MB/s, in either direction. For gigabit, wired LAN this is awful, with my previous DIR-655 I would get at the very least 40 MB/s, in all situations.Next up, iperf. I set up iperf on the two hosts, and iperf reports reasonable gigabit speeds. [code] Tonight I am thinking of reverting to an old firmware, doing a hard reset and seeing if it persists, and if no ideas come up in this forum, it is getting returned, 15MB/s over gigabit lan is terribly broken.
