Only One LAN Connection Seems To Be Working?
Jun 4, 2012
Only one LAN connection seems to be working, we have two computers both work only when one of the Ethernet cables is connected to the 4th port on the router. It is only this one that works. The internet and connection works on either but only one can be used at a time, if the ethernet cable from one is connected to any other LAN port than the fourth one there is no connection at all, it reads as unplugged.
I am not even sure when this would have started because up till recently I was using a laptop and didn't worry about a direct ethernet connection however it broke and now we're stuck in this problem.

I've got a wireless connection in my house going through a Linksys WRT54GC router and also a wired connection with Cisco gateway (only 1 laptop uses it). About 1 month ago some strange things began to happen with the wireless connection, my PC seems not to be able to connect unless I reinstall the protocols and it's really annoying to do that every time I run my PC. Also, the wired connection stopped working (probably because of cable being broken) but it requires a router restart 90% of the time when I want to connect the laptop (that used to connect through cable) to the wireless network. The 2nd laptop has an issue mentioned in the title, the LAN works but it can't connect to the Internet through the router. Ipconfig /all shows that DHCP isn't working, there's no default gateway and DNS seems to be wrong. Could that all be related to router not being updated for a long time? I tried reinstalling drivers, unistalling and installing back network card and doing most of the things mentioned in similar threads but nothing seems to work.

I'm having trouble connecting to the internet in my new apartment. If I turn my computer off and on I can connect for a few minutes but it kicks me off shortly after, I've already got most of the information.

Connection pretty much just stopped working one day. I have reset my router completely. I have tried the netsh commands. I have tried using different dns ip addresses. I have released and renewed ipconfig. I have reset both my cable modem and my wireless router. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless drivers and made sure they were up to date. None of these things worked. Here is the story. My laptop will not connect to the internet even though it says it is connected and shows the SSID when you hover over the wireless on the bottom. I have an iPad, iPhone, and another laptop connected to this wireless connection. The laptop that does not connect (the one i am having problems with) did connect to another wireless network this past weekend in another house so it is not the card in the laptop. It seems to be settings in this particular laptop with just this wireless connection as the wired connection works fine. It DOES NOT time out when I ping websites in the command prompt. I get returned values. I have tried several browsers and none of them work. It will not connect to AIM either. I hope these details might give someone some insight here. I have spent many hours trying to figure out what the hell has changed and why this connection won't work

ok,I have a wifi connection to a working router, three other wifi devices are working fine wirelessly, and the computer that cant get date from the internet works when I plug into the router via ethernet cable. I get sent packets but zero 0 received packets, every thing was fine and the only thing I have done recently is get an iphone4 and spend some time getting it personal hot spot to work. I have tried:rebooting, removing firewall ( Norton), repairing connection, setting up new connection, swearing at the screen all to no avail

I'm having an issue with the connectivity of my wireless internet. Downstairs, everything is peachy. Upstairs, which is no more than 100 feet from the router, the connectivity is non-existent. That is - the laptop still registers full signal strength, and identifies my computer as connected - but the browser constantly loads, google talk is always trying sign in, and my dropbox continues to try and find a connection. The page never actually loads, but it also never tells me there is no connection. It's like the date has slowed so much that it is not actually being sent.

Ive been using my Sony Vaio laptop (windows 7) to connect to my uni halls internet connection by ethernet cable (and keysurf login) for months with no problems, now all of a sudden my ethernet cable is not being recognised. its not a problem with my connection or cable as other people's laptops work on it. and its not a problem with my hardware as my laptop works in other people's rooms. its just the combination of my laptop and my connection. My friend did something along the lines of resetting the IP address, but not really sure what he did. So i've done a full recovery of my computer.

I bought a smartphone a couple of months ago, it connects to the web with 3G with no problems. However I can't get it to connect with my modem. I have ticked the phone settings to look for available WiFi and it picks up the name of my modem but says it's disabled, secured with WPA/WPA2 PSK. The phone can't connect to my modem

I was trying to do something with wifi settings in my DSL router modem and I messed up. So I created a new DSL router configuration with PPPOE and internet is getting automatically connected and working fine. But, When I go to connect to the internet it is giving me Error 651. But, the internet is working fine, when I checked in Networks LAN was configured to connect to the internet but not the connection I regularly use. The status is "Currently connected to network". The connection I use to connect to the internet is now giving 651.

I have 2 computers. 1 Desktop and 1 Laptop. I have been getting internet on my desktop through a bridge connection via my laptop, which is connected to our modem wirelessly. We have been using Qwest as our internet provider. We just recently upgraded to a 12mb connection. In doing so, we had to set up a new modem. The setup went smooth, and every other computer can connect to it just fine, including my laptop. But here is where the problem lies.So my laptop is connected to the modem (we don't have a router), and my desktop is still connected to my laptop via bridge connection. On my laptop's side, the Wireless Network Connection, Local Area Connection 2 (my desktop), and Network Bridge are all working just fine. However, on my desktop's side, "Local Area Connection" is marked as "Unidentified Network".
I found this site through searching something on google and found someone that seemed to have the exact same problem. I read through it all and tried all the suggestions he was given. For him, his problem was fixed. For me, the same problem still exists. Here is the link to the thread - I have tried uninstalling the ethernet drivers and restarting my computer and i have tried those commands in CMD for the resets and restarted my computer, but they did not work. I have also done a few other things i believe but can't recall exactly what they were.

The other night we had a thunderstorm. It kicked me off the internet. Now, I can connect directly to my computer to my laptop (wired), but when I try and establish the connection between the Cable Modem and the Router...it will show a connection between my PC and my netgear WND3400, but not between the router and the cable modem. Also, the ethernet port on router does not light up when connected to modem.

Basically both the wireless connection and LAN connection in my house were working fine until a couple of days ago. I got one of those viruses that redirects all the links that you go on to random websites on the main PC. I ran a full scan with McAfee Antivirus Plus and it came up with nothing. My brother suggested i try downloading malwarebytes on my laptop and installing it on the PC to get rid of it. Malwarebytes picked up the virus and got rid of it. I restarted the computer and when i tried to access the internet on the PC the message on the browser says "Could not connect". My wireless is fine, but the wired connection to the PC is not. When i look at it on the PC it says that it is connected but the browsers show no connection.

I've been happily using a desktop PC wired into a router (using an ethernet cable) as well as a laptop that connects wirelessly to the router. This setup has been working fine since I started with it a few weeks ago.
On Friday evening the desktop PC stopped being able to connect to the internet and hasn't been working since. The laptop is able to connect fine wirelessly.
The router light seems to indicate that the ethernet connection is ok. I've tried connecting wirelessly from the desktop PC but that doesn't work either - the Netgear wireless usb adaptor won't open from within Windows as it usually would do.
Nothing has changed to the hardware setup (I've checked all connections) so I wonder if this is a software problem caused by a virus or maybe by Windows updates?

When I check the strength sometimes it indicates it's good if I'm practically sitting on top of the router, this seems to eventually degrade to low until finally the connection drops.Repairing' with XP repair facility doesn't work. I can forget about getting a connection if I move further away from the router. At the moment I'm relying on using an ethernet cable snaking across the dining room, which isn't really practical with a toddler and a dog racing around. Recently a friend put a bigger HD in and before this it was working fine, so I suspect that it may be due to this. I think it's due to the wirless card in the laptop, as I have a number of other devices in the house which all work fine.

I am not that good at troubleshooting network issue but luckily I was able to figure out a problem I had with internet connection not working through my Linksys router. My computer is connected hardwire through a wireless router (linksys) and I have 3 wireless devices that connect to the wireless router.I have had the wireless router for about a year and half. I set it up myself and have had no problems since day one until today. It was working fine this morning, my computer was on the whole time, I never shut it down and all of a sudden a couple hours later went back to my computer and couldn't access the internet. "No internet access" message on the taskbar right hand side. Not one of my wireless devices connect to the internet including my desktop that is hardwired.
I tried resetting the modem...no luck. I'm thinking outage or something else that had to do with my cable company. I called them, the lady had me try without the router, worked fine, problem with router.I called linksys since I am not good at troubleshooting router issues and did not want to reconfigure everything and start from scratch. The lady at linksys says the router is out of warranty and after a year they cannot provide free tech support and wanted to charge me for either two of their paid tech support which the cheapest was 30 bucks. After some time of trying to figure out the problem I notice my ip address was different.

I bought this router and ever since my internet connection will drop out for 5 minutes at a time then come back in. This happens on both wifi and the wired connection. The weird part about it is that if there is a program that maintains a constant connection, e.g. xbox live or an online MMO, they don't lose connection when every other device or even tabs within the same browser all lose connection.
BTW It's the REV_B with the 2.07 firmware.

I've been working with a company in the UK to get a PTP connection setup between Minneapolis, MN and Chicago, IL. At each site with have a ASR1002. The connection is made via a fiber connection from Level 3. Level 3 is just handling layer 2 and we are to take care of everything else. As of right now they can see the mac address of the Minneapolis port in the Chicago router. But, I can't see theirs. Nor can I ping the Chicago router. The config that was give to me by the higher engineers is simple enough.

We have two RVS4000 at both ends of a VPN tunnel. The tunnel is up and runs fine. I can ping the two servers at the main office end of the tunnel, and cconnect to the resources of both servers. However, one of the servers, the terminal server, is unreachable via RDP. The other server can be reached via RDP for administrative purposes just fine, but the terminal server cannot be reached. There is only one difference that I can think of. The terminal server is reachable from the outside world via a redirected forwarded port on the RVS4000 at the main office.
The current firmware version is V2.0.0.3 at both ends. Is this a known anomaly for this revision of firmware?

I am facing problem in implementing NAT on Cisco 8.4 . the scenario is
Inside interface network 10.10.10.0/24 and 10.118.0.0/16 is also routed towards inside network
Other network 192.168.10.0/24 is routed via outside interface.
My requirement is to NAT the 192.168.10.2(real IP) to 10.10.10.2(mapped ip) so that when users from inside network (10.118.0.0/16) will come they will access the 10.10.10.2 instead of the real Ip(192.168.10.2)
So I used nat (inside,Extra net) source static obj-10.118.0.0 obj-10.118.0.0 destination static obj-10.10.10.2 obj-192.168.10.2 but the connection is not working but with show nat I am getting hits on the NAT statement.

2: 23:29:09.687998 arp who-has 10.10.10.2 tell 10.10.10.1
I have also enabled the proxy arp on the inside interface but still the connection was not working.

I have an ASUS X58C laptop which has been working OK to the internet via the ethernet cable but it has stopped working.I used the laptop via the wireless connection to access the internet while away from home and on my return I can not connect via the ethernet but I can connect OK via wireless. The results with the wireless enabled are :
C:>ipconfig
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection* 13:
Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
[code]....
I can see that the ethernet adapter(s) are shown as media disconnected but I don't understand how to make them connected. I also don't understand why there are two ethernet adapters or what the Tunnel Adapters are. Before I did the ipconfig command I went into Control Panel/Device Manager/Network Adapters/SiS Ethernet Controller, right clicked and selected the Update Driver Software which searched the internet for a driver and installed it.

I have a HP desktop Pavilion p6531 p-b (Windows 7) that is hardwired to a Linksys 2500 Router. Internet worked fine until this morning where it can't connect at all. It can pick up the Wireless connection from the router but I can't get it to go online even wirelessly (although I am not sure if I'm doing that part right). I called my ISP and they reset the modem, etc as well as bypassing the router and we still cannot connect to the web. We looked at the Network Center and made sure that in the Local Area Connection, the Internet Protocol Version properties all have "Obtain address" and "Obtain DNS server" automatically checked. At that point their tech support was stumped.

I've a Airtel Broadband connection with a Beetel WiFi Router. I've installed Windows Vista on my laptop. Though the network icon in the Task Bar shows that its connected I'm not able to connect to the internet. I've tried different browsers but failed. Also I've tried to ping websites in command prompt even that is not working. The connection works absolutely fine on my brother's Dell laptop hence I'm sure that there is no problem with the Router.
Here is the complete system configuration you would need to know. Dell Latitude D630 Laptop. Windows Vista 32bit OS. Beetel WiFi Router.
