Wireless Connection Working But No Internet Access

Apr 20, 2011

Basically both the wireless connection and LAN connection in my house were working fine until a couple of days ago. I got one of those viruses that redirects all the links that you go on to random websites on the main PC. I ran a full scan with McAfee Antivirus Plus and it came up with nothing. My brother suggested i try downloading malwarebytes on my laptop and installing it on the PC to get rid of it. Malwarebytes picked up the virus and got rid of it. I restarted the computer and when i tried to access the internet on the PC the message on the browser says "Could not connect". My wireless is fine, but the wired connection to the PC is not. When i look at it on the PC it says that it is connected but the browsers show no connection.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Internet Connection No Longer Working With WRT54G?

Sep 28, 2011

I have had a WRT54G V3 router working successfully for a number of years now with a couple wireless PCs through a cable modem with Comcast as my ISP.  All of a sudden yesterday, neither PC could access the internet.  No changes had been made to the router.

I contacted Comcast and they of course had me hard-wire one of my PCs into the cable modem.  That worked and I was able to access the internet.  However, when I tried to put the router back in place (in either a wired or wireless fashion), I could not access the internet.

I've tried following the online Linksys troubleshooting document ion.  The lights that should be lit on the router are lit.  I can access the router setup web page which shows the settings still intact.  I've tried going through the power sequencing to no avail.  Comcast says my router is the culprit of my problem, but I don't know why it would all of a sudden stop working.  My wireless printer still works so it detects a signal and my PC shows it's connected, but no internet access is possible.

What do I need to do?  Are there any other diagnostic tools available?  I'm out-of-warranty.

Linksys Wireless Router :: HR21-700 Shows A Working Connection To Both Network And Internet

Nov 7, 2011

I'm having a networking issue that I cannot resolve. My DirecTV HD DVR receiver (HR21-700) shows a working connection to both my network and internet. However, the STB services port (range of 27161-27192) will not connect through my router (linksys E4200) automatically or manually (Dtv error code 301).  By connecting the receiver directly to my modem, the STB services port will connect as it should.  I also have a XB360 (LAN), BluRay Player (LAN), two PCs, & Wireless Bridge connected with absolutely no issues.  Each are manually configured with a static IP and the proper ports forwarded.I am STUMPED and FRUSTRATED to say the least.Other than the manual setup of these devices, my networking knowledge is not very broad. Are there any settings or configurations that I may be overlooking? The uPnP is enabled, NAT is enabled, and all firewalls are turned off.

Can't Access Briteport 8012v1 Modem And DSL Connection Isn't Working

Apr 8, 2012

I have a briteport 8012v1 modem and a linksys WRT54g router. I reset the router because I didn't have the password to get in and haven't been able to get the connection back since. When I'm connected directly to the modem, I'm sending but not receiving packets. I'm unable to ping the modem ip, or yahoo.com. I've tried manually configuring and using DHCP. I also cannot access the modem's configuration page. (After i initially reset the router, when I tried to access the router's configuration page and was directed to the modem configuration page). When I'm plugged in to the router, I am able to get to the router config page - but still no internet connection. The modem does not have a hard reset (the reset button only resets the login name/password). I've spoken with two people at my ISP who told me different things - one that I couldn't use PPPoe and one told me I should be using it. When I spoke with them this afternoon, I was told that he tried to ping my connection and he could not. They're going to have someone call me sometime tomorrow, but this is the internet connection in a busy office and we need to be up and running when business starts tomorrow.

Lan Is Working But No Internet Connection

Oct 9, 2011

I've got a wireless connection in my house going through a Linksys WRT54GC router and also a wired connection with Cisco gateway (only 1 laptop uses it). About 1 month ago some strange things began to happen with the wireless connection, my PC seems not to be able to connect unless I reinstall the protocols and it's really annoying to do that every time I run my PC. Also, the wired connection stopped working (probably because of cable being broken) but it requires a router restart 90% of the time when I want to connect the laptop (that used to connect through cable) to the wireless network. The 2nd laptop has an issue mentioned in the title, the LAN works but it can't connect to the Internet through the router. Ipconfig /all shows that DHCP isn't working, there's no default gateway and DNS seems to be wrong. Could that all be related to router not being updated for a long time? I tried reinstalling drivers, unistalling and installing back network card and doing most of the things mentioned in similar threads but nothing seems to work.

Cannot Access Internet Despite Apparent Wireless Connection

Nov 14, 2012

I have an Asus Windows 7 laptop with an Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter. I am trying to access a student communal network (IT support is sadly none-existent) which means I cannot perform tests on the router, but can confirm that my girlfriend can connect with a Macbook in the same room as me, and that other Windows users can too in other areas. I can connect via ethernet into the wall (although not 100% sure this is the exactly the same network) and I can connect to other unrelated wireless networks with no problem. Up until a couple of days ago I was able to connect, but have not done any windows updates that might have changed my settings. When attempting to connect my computer tells me (often, not always) I have "Internet access" under "IPv4 Connectivity", but the browser does nothing (or, sometimes, will struggle and load one webpage, only to fade into uselessness again immediately afterwards - very much a tease of a connection).

1) Disabled various firewalls/antivirus [Microsoft Security Essentials, Windows Firewall, AVG] (perhaps worth saying I have never had Nortons, McAfee or any other anti-virus installed on this laptop)

2) Reset Network Adaptor using Windows Diagnostics Tool.

3) Updated the driver by searching automatically for drivers in Device Manager.

4) Removed and Renewed the Network in "manage wireless network".

5) In Wireless Connection Properties > Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) made sure both Ip address and DNS address are set to "obtain automatically" [nb: Internet Protocol Version 6 has the same settings)

6) WIthout remotely understanding what I am doing have typed the following into CMD in this order: ipconfig/release,ipconfig/flushdns, ipconfig/renew [for the latter this message is given "An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless Network Connection: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."Beyond that, I'm basically out of ideas. Something is clearly not quite right, and yet I can connect wireless to other networks (my mobile phone on 3g emitting a dodgy wireless signal no less).

Here is the ipconfig/all information [being security conscious and ignorant, I have blanked out the ip, and the final bits of the physical address, as well as the connection specific DNS suffix]

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : XXX
Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . :
Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Hybrid
IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No
WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No

[code]....

If I ping [URL] it either says [currently unable to recreate this] "Unable to reach destination server" for all attempts, or, as currently "ping request could not find host [URL] I notice that it says in Ipconfig/all that DCHP is not enabled. I am sure this was not the case before, when the problem did not exist. When I connect to other wifi networks DCHP is enabled. I have double-checked wireless properties are set to obtain IP address and DNS address automatically. They are at all times (and I have rebooted) - no change to ipconfig/all.

Ethernet Or Wireless Connection But No Internet Access?

Jan 2, 2011

I have had my HP laptop for 2.5 years now, originally bought with Vista 64 bit. It now has Windows 7. Up until now, internet access and connectivity have been working fine. But, all of the sudden today, I couldn't get Internet Access despite trying both an ethernet port and a wireless connection (connectivity was working.) I know it's something with the laptop, because my ASUS netbook has no problem accessing the internet. I've tried looking around at some of these tech support sites and haven't really found anything that's worked for me. I've tried using CCleaner to remove any temp files and clean the registry, and resetting internet settings in the command box, but still I get nothing.

- neither the LAN connection or the wireless connction will access the internet through Internet Explorer
- microsoft email will not send and recieve

Wireless Connection But No Internet Access Until Warmed Up?

Jan 1, 2013

A few months ago, my family moved to a new apartment, and here we have AT&T U-verse internet connection and the router that AT&T provided; none of our computers have wired connections to it, because that would require stringing the network cables over doorways and/or across the ceiling. However, my parents' computers have had trouble getting internet access until they're warmed up - the system tray icons will indicate they have network connection, but when they try to visit an internet site (even Google), Firefox will say it can't find the server. Once one of their computers has been on for a while (I haven't timed it, but it seems like more than 5 minutes needed, and probably not more than 30), the internet works fine on that computer. I saw this for myself on my mom's computer this morning. I previously set DNS servers to 8.8.8.8 (Google's DNS) and 156.154.70.1 (DNSadvantage), but that apparently hasn't resolved the issue. Dad says he wasn't having trouble with this under Ubuntu, but now that I switched him to Windows 7, it has been happening on his computer as well.

In my room, I've got a desktop PC with a Rosewill RNX-N150HG usb wifi adapter, a Mac Mini (built-in wifi), a 2005 laptop PC (built-in wifi), and several gaming consoles, and haven't seen this issue on any of them.My mom's computer is running Windows XP and has a ECS 945 GCT-M motherboard connected to a Cisco wireless bridge as well as a Rosewill RNX-N150HG usb wifi adapter. My dad's computer was changed from Ubuntu to Windows 7 and has a motherboard that was pulled out of a Gateway GT5676 connected to the same wireless bridge (which we bought because we couldn't get Ubuntu drivers for the usb wifi adapter).I'm hesitant to get a powerline network adapter, because I think the pair I used for a while in our previous apartment was responsible for the death of a router (the router started only acting as a hub, and iirc wasn't accessible when I visited its ip address).

Internet Connection Stopped Working On Desktop PC?

Nov 19, 2012

I've been happily using a desktop PC wired into a router (using an ethernet cable) as well as a laptop that connects wirelessly to the router. This setup has been working fine since I started with it a few weeks ago.

On Friday evening the desktop PC stopped being able to connect to the internet and hasn't been working since. The laptop is able to connect fine wirelessly.

The router light seems to indicate that the ethernet connection is ok. I've tried connecting wirelessly from the desktop PC but that doesn't work either - the Netgear wireless usb adaptor won't open from within Windows as it usually would do.

Nothing has changed to the hardware setup (I've checked all connections) so I wonder if this is a software problem caused by a virus or maybe by Windows updates?

Internet Connection Not Working Through Linksys Router?

Jun 27, 2011

I am not that good at troubleshooting network issue but luckily I was able to figure out a problem I had with internet connection not working through my Linksys router. My computer is connected hardwire through a wireless router (linksys) and I have 3 wireless devices that connect to the wireless router.I have had the wireless router for about a year and half. I set it up myself and have had no problems since day one until today. It was working fine this morning, my computer was on the whole time, I never shut it down and all of a sudden a couple hours later went back to my computer and couldn't access the internet. "No internet access" message on the taskbar right hand side. Not one of my wireless devices connect to the internet including my desktop that is hardwired.

I tried resetting the modem...no luck. I'm thinking outage or something else that had to do with my cable company. I called them, the lady had me try without the router, worked fine, problem with router.I called linksys since I am not good at troubleshooting router issues and did not want to reconfigure everything and start from scratch. The lady at linksys says the router is out of warranty and after a year they cannot provide free tech support and wanted to charge me for either two of their paid tech support which the cheapest was 30 bucks. After some time of trying to figure out the problem I notice my ip address was different.

BTW It's the REV_B with the 2.07 firmware.
