My laptop is working fine wirelessley however my desktop which is hardwired and has been working fine for months wont connect to internet ? Ive brought my laptop upstairs and it connects fine via LAN cable to obv an issue with desktop computer/settings

Connection pretty much just stopped working one day. I have reset my router completely. I have tried the netsh commands. I have tried using different dns ip addresses. I have released and renewed ipconfig. I have reset both my cable modem and my wireless router. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the wireless drivers and made sure they were up to date. None of these things worked.Here is the story. My laptop will not connect to the internet even though it says it is connected and shows the SSID when you hover over the wireless on the bottom. I have an iPad, iPhone, and another laptop connected to this wireless connection. The laptop that does not connect (the one i am having problems with) did connect to another wireless network this past weekend in another house so it is not the card in the laptop. It seems to be settings in this particular laptop with just this wireless connection as the wired connection works fine. It DOES NOT time out when I ping websites in the command prompt. I get returned values. I have tried several browsers and none of them work. It will not connect to AIM either. I hope these details might give someone some insight here. I have spent many hours trying to figure out what the hell has changed and why this connection won't work

Upstairs, which is no more than 100 feet from the router, the connectivity is non-existent. That is - the laptop still registers full signal strength, and identifies my computer as connected - but the browser constantly loads, google talk is always trying sign in, and my dropbox continues to try and find a connection.The page never actually loads, but it also never tells me there is no connection. I got one of those viruses that redirects all the links that you go on to random websites on the main PC. I ran a full scan with McAfee Antivirus Plus and it came up with nothing. My brother suggested i try downloading malwarebytes on my laptop and installing it on the PC to get rid of it. Malwarebytes picked up the virus and got rid of it. I restarted the computer and when i tried to access the internet on the PC the message on the browser says "Could not connect". My wireless is fine, but the wired connection to the PC is not. When i look at it on the PC it says that it is connected but the browsers show no connection.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I check the strength sometimes it indicates it's good if I'm practically sitting on top of the router, this seems to eventually degrade to low until finally the connection drops.Repairing' with XP repair facility doesn't work. I can forget about getting a connection if I move further away from the router. At the moment I'm relying on using an ethernet cable snaking across the dining room, which isn't really practical with a toddler and a dog racing around. My wife's computer was working fine. Two nights ago, a Windows update was automatically installed. Now, it will not connect to the internet. The map shows it connected to the network. We have several other devices on our network both wired and wireless and all of them are working fine.
I was able to use system restore yesterday to roll back the update. It still did not work. However, I tried connecting to a neighbor's wireless. It said something about refreshing the adapter and then it connected to our network and was working fine. Unfortunately, when she shut down last night, the windows update was reapplied. I turned off automatic updates and tried using system restore. It did not work this time. I removed every update that was applied in the last 48 hours but I still cannot get the computer to connect to the internet. However, it does connect to the internet when I bring it up in Safe Mode.

I am having issue with Yahoo videos not working on my home network wireless connection. It is not a computer issue because my laptop plays the videos fine on different wireless connections just will not play on my home connection. Is there some simple setting somewhere that is causing this issue? All other videos play fine......youtube, CBS news etc. It is only yahoo videos. The commercials even play fine. When the video tries to play it simply gets stuck in the loading screen with the circle thing going around an around or it nds then says video is no longer available.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have had a WRT54G V3 router working successfully for a number of years now with a couple wireless PCs through a cable modem with Comcast as my ISP. All of a sudden yesterday, neither PC could access the internet. No changes had been made to the router.
I contacted Comcast and they of course had me hard-wire one of my PCs into the cable modem. That worked and I was able to access the internet. However, when I tried to put the router back in place (in either a wired or wireless fashion), I could not access the internet.
I've tried following the online Linksys troubleshooting document ion. The lights that should be lit on the router are lit. I can access the router setup web page which shows the settings still intact. I've tried going through the power sequencing to no avail. Comcast says my router is the culprit of my problem, but I don't know why it would all of a sudden stop working. My wireless printer still works so it detects a signal and my PC shows it's connected, but no internet access is possible.
What do I need to do? Are there any other diagnostic tools available? I'm out-of-warranty.
I recently upgraded my Wild blue internet service to the "Exede" system. When I kept losing the connection to my Mac Air book, the Wild blue service tech suggested that my wireless router (Linksys Wireless G 2.4 GHz router) was not robust enough to handle the increased "speed". They recommended I purchase a new router so I purchased the Linksys EA4500.
Now, after three weeks, the Linksys EA4500 router has stopped working. I am able to hook one of our Mac Books directly to the satellite modem to access the internet through an Ethernet connection. Finally, I finally reconnected my old Linksys Wireless G router to the modem to check to see if it would work and it does.
So, I'm wondering about the failure rate of the new Linksys EA4500 routers? Is there anything else I might try to get my new router to work??? I have unplugged it for an hour and then re connected it. I have pushed the reset button..My wireless indicator on the Mac Book Air shows full signal strength, but I can't connect to the internet with my new (less than 3 weeks old) router.
Few days ago the wireless in my son's Dell Inspiron 620 went bad. It does connect to my old router (WEP), but speed is terrible and connection goes bad after some time. I can also see my modern router and enter the key successfully (WPA2), but it won't connect. Connection to both routers went well for months before, and still goes well from all other devices in the house.
I read the issue with McAfee that was posted late August and followed the steps. Connection in safe mode didn't work. Then I removed McAfee from the PC, no difference. Then I restored the PC to a couple of days before the issues began, removed McAfee again (as it came back through the restore), no difference.
I reinstalled the drivers of the Dell wireless card, no difference.
My wireless internet isn't working. The light is lit up on the router and it even says i have a full three bars on my ipod that im using it with, yet when i try to go on the internet on my ipod it says that im not connected to the internet.I looked on the internet and most websites said to type 192.168.1.1 into your address bar and change some stuff around. The only problem is that when i did this it didn't work and nothing loaded up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've tried all sorts of settings, and I'm still holding out that its a setting possibly, but I have a E3500 and devices on both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz... Most of them, probably when idle, seem to stop working over WIfi. They still have decent connection, but every internet related request just times out. Disable and reinable the wifi and it works great again.
Could this be defective wifi radios? or could it really be interference? I have it happening on multiple devices. Also, I'm not far away from the router when it occurs, and when I reconnect, it seems to work just fine for a while. Basically the big problem is on the cell phones and tablets because I'll miss notifications... I'll turn off the wifi and turn it back on when I use the device next, then a flood of notifications will come in. Again, it's not just a phone thing, tablets and laptops have the same problem, that's just the main reason I want it fixed.
I'm having a networking issue that I cannot resolve.My DirecTV HD DVR receiver (HR21-700) shows a working connection to both my network and internet. However, the STB services port (range of 27161-27192) will not connect through my router (linksys E4200) automatically or manually (Dtv error code 301). By connecting the receiver directly to my modem, the STB services port will connect as it should. I also have a XB360 (LAN), BluRay Player (LAN), two PCs, & Wireless Bridge connected with absolutely no issues. Each are manually configured with a static IP and the proper ports forwarded.I am STUMPED and FRUSTRATED to say the least.Other than the manual setup of these devices, my networking knowledge is not very broad.Are there any settings or configurations that I may be overlooking?The uPnP is enabled, NAT is enabled, and all firewalls are turned off.
