So, I've tried resetting my personal modem to factory default and it still doesn't work!

Jan 9, 2011My home network consists of a Linksys WRT54GL router running DD-WRT supplying wired access to my desktop, a bridge to another WRT54GL (also running DD-WRT) to provide a wired connection to a XBOX upstairs, and wireless access to about 5 or 6 different devices including several laptops, an iPad, and an iPod touch. My question is this:
I am adding a 22" TV into my office so I can watch TV while working on my desktop. I only have one cable jack in my office which is currently plugged straight into my cable modem. This means I'll have to use a splitter to give both my TV and modem cable access. How much signal degradation or speed do I stand to lose or should expect to lose?

Jan 26, 2012I have a group of five computers at one end of my home office and another group of four computers across the same room. All are hardwired on the same internal network. These cannot be consolidate or moved into one corner or closet. There just is not the space and it's just physically not possible.There is one Internet router as provided by the local cable company. I have this connected to a LinkSys WRT54G2 broadband router. A Netgear DS108 8-port hub is connected the LinkSys. All computers either connect to the Netgear hub or to the LinkSys router. As of now, the WiFi from the LinkSys router is only ever used by my cell phone while at home.
This set up is annoying. At first I did not mind, but there are cables on the floor that I have to step over. These CAT5 cables connect one set of computers to the LinkSys or Netgear. I have to watch where visitors are walking or stepping to assure they don't trip.How can I keep these computers on the same network and eliminate just those cables crossing the floor of my home office?Should I use WiFi NICs? Would this overwhelm the WiFi on the LinkSys?

Feb 18, 2012I am running a VPN server on my desktop at home, with all the default settings, and i checked the box that allows clients to connect over the internet. this is win7 x64 computer. I opened up port 1723 with PPTP protocol on my E4200 router.On the client i am running win7 x64 as well. I am able to connect to the vpn, from another internet connection, but there is no local network acess. It says the status is No Internet Access. and the IP that is assigned is the 169.x.x.x one that windows defaults when it doesnt find a dhcp server.How can i get the client to connect with full local network access. Right now being connected to the vpn, it means nothing, i have no access other than being "connected".

Have pinged without any response however the wifi or hardwire will show connected to the local net.I have four other units surfing the web fine and wifi picks up ok except for one unit that my neighbor need will not connect no matter what. Oct 25, 2011I'm working at a high school which has pretty large grounds. The network is configured via one central router and a lot of access points. Recently, they shut down my access point for a moment after connecting it again. The access point works fine (after finding my problem we've tested a lot of computers and they all connect to it and the internet). My laptop and my desktop - the only computers connected to access point when it was rebooted - do not connect to this access point however!
Instead, they "choose" to connect to an access point farther away, so that my signal strength is extremely low (and hence, my internet connection is very poor).How do I get my computers to connect to the previous access point with the strong signal?
The laptop runs Windows 7 32-bit and the desktop runs Windows 7 64-bit.
Dell :: XPS 8300 Desktop Connects To Home Network But Not Internet
Aug 18, 2012I have a Dell XPS 8300 desktop and have been having issues with the modem connecting to the wireless network just fine but, I'm not able to access the internet. This has only occurred over the last 24 hours and is frustrating. I've read some other recent posts and have gone back and done the System Restore to before the installation of Windows Updates a day or so ago and that has worked twice today. But I'm not a PC expert and I would like to know how I could resolve this issue permanently without having to undo the updates with System Restore every time I power up and log in. How do I figure out what setting is being undone to disconnect the internet connection from my XPS 8300?

Aug 4, 2012Last week I was using my laptop when suddenly it disconnected from the internet. I tried fixing it the next day, and even though there were full bars, it wouldn't connect to the network. I restarted my router multiple times and nothing. So, after a fit of anger and messing with different settings on my computer. For some reason, I was able to connect to the internet 2 or 3 times over the past week for about 10-15 minutes before it would disconnect me for the rest of the day.. So, I'm honestly so stumped. I thought maybe it might have just been my router, but I'm at my dad's house now and I'm not able to connect to his network, either. I might need to go ahead an order a new wireless adapter, but neither of us are that well with computers/networking. I'm hooked up via Ethernet cord which seems to be working fine, but my wireless is only able to read and not actually connect. (On occasion it will actually connect to the internet, but when it does I can't actually access the internet)I've tried uninstalling my wireless adapter, disabling/enabling it, a bunch of weird commands that I don't even know what they do (.. probably shouldn't have messed with those), stopping/restarting services, etc.

It has to be coming from my neighbor who's bedroom is about 15 feet away from my router. Jul 2, 2012I recently upgraded my wireless router from D-Link DIR-615 to D-Link DIR-685. Before the changeover, all of my devices were connecting to the router, although I had several problems with dropped connections, etc. The devices in use were:
- Desktop computer
- Laptop computer
- All-in-one touchscreen computer
- Netbook
- iPhone (original model)
- HP TouchPad tablet
- Sony Blu-Ray player
- Two internet radios (Aluratek and Livio)
- Wii
ALL of these devices were connected wirelessly to the network. When I set up the new router, I used a different network name/SSID, but kept the same security key/password. All of the router settings were kept the same (e.g., WPA-2, etc.). After the new router was up and running, every single one of the devices listed above connected (after an initial setup with the new network name, of course) EXCEPT the All-in-one/touchscreen computer. I've tried over and over, and it refuses to accept the security key/password. (The desktop, laptop, and touchscreen are all running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium.) After doing some research, I tried some suggested solutions, but nothing seems to work. Nothing on the problem computer has changed since it was last connected to the old router. I checked the "Properties" of the network device on both the Desktop (which has no problems connecting) and the Touchscreen, and they are identical: WPA-2, AES, etc. And I'm 100% positive I'm entering the security key correctly. I've rebooted the router and the computer several times.

Apr 15, 2012I have set up a wireless network in my home using s d-link N+ 300 DIR-655 and the desktop that is directly connected to the modem and router can connect to the internet and my laptop can access the wireless network and get online but I have another desktop that cannot connect to the wireless network. It can see it but when i try and connect i get the message that it was unable to connect or sometimes that i was able to connect but have limited connectivity.

Sep 2, 2012I have recently managed to configure a setup where I have 2 srp527's one at office one at home.Have 1 fixed IP at the office and 1 fixed ip at home.I have configured the srp at work to be a vpn server and have configured the group and 2 user profiles. This allows me to have 2 concurrent sessions over the vpn to my office from desktop and laptop at the same time. Connections fire up perfectly no problems.From the desktop, I connect using vpn client with user profile 1 Once connected, I then connect to my workstation machine at the office using remote desktop.This gets me super fast access to office files and large spreadsheets without downloading the whole file over the vpn and is working perfectly.
If I then additionally connect from the laptop using the vpn client with user profile 2 the remote desktop connection drops.Disconnect the laptop connection, remote desktop comes back.Have isolated this to being 2 connections arriving at the srp at the office from the same external ip. If I connect my laptop to my phone as a hotspot rather than using my home LAN, both connections are made and remote desktop has no interruptions. Is there a way I can overcome this through re-configuration of the srp at the office or is this a limitation with the srp?
