How to access remotely over the Internet to office PC from my home PC and get files that I need? Office's ADSL modem's model is BeWan iBox V1.0 and it has a built-in firewall. ADSL connection has a dynamic IP, which I assume should be configured as static (but how?) Should I investigate VPN capabilities as well? I'm not very knowledgeable about these things.

I am sitting 500 KM distance in between in the Head Office. I can ping the router but due to lost password I cannot login to the router. Moreover I dont have snmp enabled in that router. Is there anyway I can reset the router's password remotely from my head office. Additionaly I have a switch directly connected to the router and I can ping and login to the swtich but not the router. I am writing this about the switch or resetting the routers password anyway.

I tried setting up the port forwarding although I'm not sure if I did it correctly or not. I got onto my routers webpage. Went to "applications & gaming" Named port, selected both, put in DVR's ip address and clicked save. Came to work and tried to view it and I just get the "cannot load webpage" page.

What I am trying to do is copy a folder from one computer at the backup site to another computer at the backup site, all while sitting at my computer in the main office. Let's say the two computers at the backup site are called comp1 and comp2.Whether I use Windows Explorer, or .net VB script, or XCOPY from the command prompt, if I try to copy \comp1c_drivefolder to \comp2c_drivefolder from my computer then it takes an extremely long time - around 5 hours for 2Gb of data.
However, if I Remote Desktop into comp1, and from that machine copy C:folder to \comp2c_drivefolder then it only takes 5 minutesI can only assume that when I try to copy the folder from my computer remotely that it is transferring the data from comp1 -> my computer -> comp2, and with the computers being at different sites it's very slow. What I need to know is if I can do this remote copy using VB without the data going via my computer, i.e. straight from \comp1 to \comp2.
I thought this was the way Windows handled copying between networks anyway, i.e. straight from one to the other, my only explanation for the terrible speed is that it is going via my computer. I'm writing a basic folder-backup program in VB and would REALLY like to cut that 5 hour transfer time down to the 5 minutes I know the network can do
I am trying to transfer files from Laptop A to Laptop B. I can transfer files from B to A, but I can't transfer them from A to B. When I try to, I get an error message saying "Windows cannot access Laptop A".It then gives me the option to diagnose the problem (I'm using Vista on both laptops, by the way). When I click that, it gives me the error of "Cannot communicate with Laptop A. We pinged the remote host but did not receive a response".Laptop A is connected to the network according to it, it can access the internet fine and can access other laptops on the network fine. I have disabled the firewall, shared the folders appropriately, made sure they were both on the same workgroup (they are both on the default Vista WORKGROUP), and still nothing.

Slowly we have drifted in to two slightly separate businesses and my boss wants us to create a new AD Forest and segregate the users doing each business. Although we will all be in the same office, each side will authenticate to a different DC. The problem is, that we have some resources that still need to be shared and I would like to share them as eloquently as possible without converging the networks too much. The two networks will be in the same server rack but they will logically appear as this:Forest1.local (original)
-Cable Internet -- Router A (192.168.1.x) -- 48-port switch A -- PC/Phones/Domain Controller AForest2.local (new)
-Cable Internet -- Router B (10.1.1.x) -- 48-port switch B -- PC/Phones/Domain Controller B.
The problem I have is that the users in the "new" network need access to a shared folder, shared customer DB, and shared printers on the original Domain Controller, named "DC A" above. I have complete control over both networks but cant figure it out the best way.My main concern is physical access between the networks. How will a pc on the 10.1.1.x network know where printer 192.168.1.2 is? I thought about creating a forest trust in order to assign proper permission but how will they resolve the names on a different subnets? The two "routers" are just simple SOHO type routers so I cant do much there. I thought about connecting the two switches together but don't know if that would work. Wouldn't the data just get passed to the default gateway (router) anyway. The router would then just drop it. I also though about using the 2nd NIC in each DC and connecting them in each other's subnet. But again Im not sure if it matters if the DC's can reach each other or if the PC's would have to be able to reach the other subnet etc. I also thought about just creating some kind of VPN (hamagachi) or whatever to go out into the internet then back into the other router to the network.The problem is wouldnt every computer wanting to access the shared folder have to have this setup. I would like to limit setting things up on workstations and just limit config to the DC's if possible.I basically just want users in subnet two to be able to map a drive and access printers on DC in subnet one.
I wanted to setup a home network for primarily sharing my music, pictures and videos.I have a PS3 which can stream the video/music and display the pictures from a media server to my TV.I was wondering between NAS and a desktop computer? and wanted to know which was the better or cheaper solution? (2 much 2 ask for both)

Right now every computer is connected through a workgroup and some computers are sharing files to everyone and some need a login to share other files. I want to run a main server where all the files are on that computer and have it share all the files to everyone else on the network. I'm not too familiar with Windows workgroup networking and file sharing.I want to have certain files accessible to certain computers and certain files accessible to everyone on the network. I'm under the impression that I have to have the main server with all the business documents. Then create separate accounts on the server and hand them out to each individual computer. After, go to each document and specify who can access what with read/write. Can I share some files to everyone and have certain files limited to other computers at the same time? How would someone access the shared files when you need a login and will this login conflict with files shared to everyone and files shared to certain people. I remember on my small business network I need a login for certain computers because it is shared to only certain people then how would I access the files shared to everyone when I have to login to see the server files to begin with?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently managed to configure a setup where I have 2 srp527's one at office one at home.Have 1 fixed IP at the office and 1 fixed ip at home.I have configured the srp at work to be a vpn server and have configured the group and 2 user profiles. This allows me to have 2 concurrent sessions over the vpn to my office from desktop and laptop at the same time. Connections fire up perfectly no problems.From the desktop, I connect using vpn client with user profile 1 Once connected, I then connect to my workstation machine at the office using remote desktop.This gets me super fast access to office files and large spreadsheets without downloading the whole file over the vpn and is working perfectly.
If I then additionally connect from the laptop using the vpn client with user profile 2 the remote desktop connection drops.Disconnect the laptop connection, remote desktop comes back.Have isolated this to being 2 connections arriving at the srp at the office from the same external ip. If I connect my laptop to my phone as a hotspot rather than using my home LAN, both connections are made and remote desktop has no interruptions. Is there a way I can overcome this through re-configuration of the srp at the office or is this a limitation with the srp?
I have a group of five computers at one end of my home office and another group of four computers across the same room. All are hardwired on the same internal network. These cannot be consolidate or moved into one corner or closet. There just is not the space and it's just physically not possible.There is one Internet router as provided by the local cable company. I have this connected to a LinkSys WRT54G2 broadband router. A Netgear DS108 8-port hub is connected the LinkSys. All computers either connect to the Netgear hub or to the LinkSys router. As of now, the WiFi from the LinkSys router is only ever used by my cell phone while at home.
This set up is annoying. At first I did not mind, but there are cables on the floor that I have to step over. These CAT5 cables connect one set of computers to the LinkSys or Netgear. I have to watch where visitors are walking or stepping to assure they don't trip.How can I keep these computers on the same network and eliminate just those cables crossing the floor of my home office?Should I use WiFi NICs? Would this overwhelm the WiFi on the LinkSys?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am connecting to a ASA5505 at from home to the head-office using L2TP VPN.
Head-office then has a connection to other-office via a site-to-site IPSEC tunnel.
When in the head-office (192.168.100.0/24) I can ping/access remote-office (192.168.200.0/24) OK.
When connected remotely to head-office, I can ping/access head-office OK from the road-warrior laptop.
My problem is that when connected remotely from home to the head-office I cannot ping/access the other-office subnet.
On the home laptop the L2TP VPN connection is set to route all traffic to the VPN connection using the HQ as the internet gateway I can confirm this works.
I cant do traceroute (I get timeouts) as my policy doesnt allow and not sure how to enable this properly on the ASA.
