Sharing :: Slow Transfer Remotely Copying Over A Network?

Jan 12, 2011

My work has a main office and a backup office which is off site. What I am trying to do is copy a folder from one computer at the backup site to another computer at the backup site, all while sitting at my computer in the main office. Let's say the two computers at the backup site are called comp1 and comp2.Whether I use Windows Explorer, or .net VB script, or XCOPY from the command prompt, if I try to copy \comp1c_drivefolder to \comp2c_drivefolder from my computer then it takes an extremely long time - around 5 hours for 2Gb of data.

However, if I Remote Desktop into comp1, and from that machine copy C:folder to \comp2c_drivefolder then it only takes 5 minutesI can only assume that when I try to copy the folder from my computer remotely that it is transferring the data from comp1 -> my computer -> comp2, and with the computers being at different sites it's very slow. What I need to know is if I can do this remote copy using VB without the data going via my computer, i.e. straight from \comp1 to \comp2.

I thought this was the way Windows handled copying between networks anyway, i.e. straight from one to the other, my only explanation for the terrible speed is that it is going via my computer. I'm writing a basic folder-backup program in VB and would REALLY like to cut that 5 hour transfer time down to the 5 minutes I know the network can do

Sharing :: SFTP File Transfer Is Slow?

Apr 7, 2011

i am running windows server 2008 with the hyper V role installed.i have installed windows 7 Professional as a guest OS. assigned 2 GB of Ram to the machine. the point behind the VM is to virtualize my FTP server and incase a format is required i have the VM file on my 2nd partition, host OS on another. i use Cerberus FTP Server on the Win7 OS. i configured the server to accept SFTP and TLS connections. on the host OS i installed Fire FTP and File Zilla, both Clients will at max download a 4 MB file at 64 KB/Sec .. i have seen both jump to about 80 KB but was only a split second and never held.. however if i login without SFTP and transfer over standard protocol, i download at 1 MB/sec. which is my normal speeds. would this be only to the encryption process?, in the Cerberus Server there are options to adjust download speeds, i have left it default, and altered it to allow its max configuration. My ISP is not limiting any connections that shouldnt be.

Slow File Transfer Over Wireless Network

Apr 22, 2012

I have a wireless network with 2 desktop hooked up wired, and one laptop that's wireless. Accessing files on the desktop with xp installed is quick and transfers files at around 5-7mb/s. When I connect to my main pc with windows 7 on it, file transfer is EXTREMELY slow and almost always stutters and freezes. I've tried removing the drive from 'shared' and then adding it again, reinstalling my ethernet driver, swapping ethernet ports on the back of my router, and resetting it altogether. Still a slow transfer speed.I use workgroup all around, for xp and for 7.

AR938x Slow Network Transfer Speeds

2-Desktop PCs

2-Qualcomm Atheros AR938x wireless cards, both connected on 5Ghz network at 450 Mbps.Router-E4200, latest firmware, the only 5Ghz network in the area

One PC has a drive bender drive pool on it that I'm trying to read/write from. Testing the pool w/ crystal disk mark on the local pc shows fast speeds (650 MB/s read, 67 MB/s write), so I drive bottlenecks aren't the issue.

Connecting at 450 Mbps i would expect to see something like at least 200 Mbps actual speeds, or is this off? Using LAN Speed test I'm getting 41 write and 52 read. Not great

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 Slow Network Transfer Speeds Over N

Jul 11, 2011

I'm having very slow file transfer speeds between the 2 computers on my network. One is a gigabit pc wired (cat6) to the e3000. The other is a wireless N laptop. Both computers running Win7. Speeds are like 1.5 - 2 MB/s. when I connect the laptop to the router with a cable (cat6) I get proper high speed. Trying to figure out if it's a problem with the router or windows or what. Speedtest.net says I'm getting 16 MB/s DL wirelessly to my laptop. Shouldn't wireless N be capable of higher speeds than 1.5 MB/s?? Tests are done approx 10 feet from the router.

Cisco :: Linksys E3200 Router - Very Slow Network Data Transfer Rates?

Oct 12, 2011

Hardware Software profile;
Laptop - Windows 7
Desktop - Vista Ultimate SP2
Router - Cisco Linksys E3200
Cables - CAT6

I am a sales engineer, so I use my desktop and laptop all the time. When on road, I sync my desktop with my laptop using a program called ViceVersa. This a very good, reliable syncing program that I have been using for over 10 years  ( with upgrades ).

The program allows me to sync my desktop and laptop. The program also shows the data transfer rate during the syncing process. The typical data transfer speed is between 5MB/s and 10MB/s with sometimes up to 12MB/s. A typical sync between the computers will take about 3 - 5 minutes at the ~ 10 MB/s transfer rate using ethernet CAT6 cable inteface. At about 11pm last Tuesday, there was a Windows update on both my Vist and Win7 computers. On wednesday, I went to do a typical sync. The system has dramatically slowed to 59KB/s max. This is about 150 times slower than 5-10MB/s that I was used to for so many years. My typical sync was now taking about 2 hours....unacceptable ! I have tried everything to figure out what is going on and how to fix it but nothing has worked.

Then I tried to see what would happen if I disconnected my ethernet cable ( between the router and the laptop only ) and just sync using the wireless network. With that configuration, the transfer rate is ~ 2.5 MB/s which is not great but is much, much better than 59KB/s. I actually do not know what a reasonable wireless transfer rate should be since I never really did it before due to the faster speed of the wired configuration.

This is just a LAN. Only connecting my Desktop to my Laptop via the Cisco router.

How I can get my wired configuration back up to the 5-10MB/s transfer rate that it once was?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Wifi Network - Slow File Transfer Speed

Mar 24, 2012

I have recently purchased a Cisco E4200 to replace my D-LINK DIR-655, which I thought was defective because I was getting slow wirless file transfer speed, regardless of setting, location and client.Using the E4200, when I transfer a file from a PC to another, both connected at 300mb on the 2.4ghz band, the file transfer rate reported by windows 7 and networx is from 2MB/s to 3.5MB/s.  I think those transfer rates are not acceptable.  Is that a good assumption ? I would expect something in the range of 10MB/s (which is what I get with a cheap dlink router, wired)

I also had great difficulty finding a channel.  I had to try them all one-by-one as the auto channel selection made my PCs connect at 130mb.The E4200 is setup as follows:

-WPA-Personal
-Channel 5
-802.11n only

I have tried 3 different computers with different network adapters and they all underperform (IMO..).There are no other wireless networks in my area.I also took the E4200 to my office which is very crowed.  Every single channel is occupied by several wireless networks.  I get a file transfer speed PC to PC of about 2MB.I basically could have kept my DIR-655 as the speeds are identical.

Cisco WAN :: ASA5510 - DMZ To INSIDE Extremely Slow File Copying

May 9, 2013

I have a Cisco ASA 5510.  I am trying to copy large files between DMZ and INSIDE network and it is copying at awfully a slow speed.  I thought it might have been related to duplex mismatch but it doesn't seem to be. DMZ interface is set at 100 full duplex.  I programmed the port on the managed switch where the DMZ uplink is connected to be 100 full duplex. I even hard set the NIC on server to be 100 full.  Nothing worked. So, I come to a conclusion it isn't the duplex mismatch but there gotta be something else on Cisco ASA.  I was googling for this issue and came across it could be a QoS policy. Now, checking my ASA I see a any to any global service_policy where it is defined to inspect certain protocols where 'netbios' is one of them (among others such as 'ftp', 'tftp', etc. Could the slow copying be related to the above policy?  Could there be a bandwidth limitation between DMZ and INSIDE interface? How do I check?

AR928X Very Slow Copying Over Wireless Between Machines / But Internet Works At Normal Speed?

Mar 3, 2012

I have a laptop (let me call it A) with Intel Centrino 1030-N wireless (iwlwifi module), running Arch Linux, and another laptop (I will call it B) with Atheros AR928X wireless (ath9k module), running Ubuntu 11.10. They connect to a wireless network provided by a D-Link DI-524 router (802.11g), which in turn connects to a DSL modem (10Mbps/1Mbps link)

Copying files between those machines, either through scp or mounting a share via NFS or Samba, is very slow (at most 200 KB/s) and sometimes fails (times out), even when both machines are inches away from the router. However, downloading files on either machine works correctly at the expected speeds (~1.2 MB/s).

I ran iperf, as recommended in a comment, and it gave me this: [code] The bandwidth is very low, as can be seen from those results.

Sharing :: Windows 7 / XP Slow File Listings On Network Shares

Nov 2, 2011

Having got a new Windows 7 (64 bit Ultimate) PC, I decided to turn my old PC (XP Pro) into a file server. After much fun with Windows networking, I have one particular problem. Listing files on the server from the Win7 machine is ridiculously slow. A few directories have large numbers of files in them, around 10,000 image files. Browsing to one such folder on Win7, I have timed a listing and it took 48 seconds! That's a very long time to wait for a file listing. I have a network connection monitor running and it doesn't seem to be overloading the network- data was dribbling down the 100Base-T cable at about 200kiloBITS per second. Trying things the other way around, the same folder if placed on the Win7 machine and listed from the old XP machine can deliver a complete listing in about 5 seconds. I'm not sure which end has the problem; either the server is delivering file names very slowly or (my guess) the Win 7 machine is asking for them very slowly, perhaps asking for lots of crap that isn't needed like icons or file dimensions or something.

Sharing :: Transfer Rates Of NAS Devices?

Aug 25, 2012

I am using an old Asus netbook as a file server in home network which I connect through Ipad over ftp. It works for the most of daily tasks fine though but the connection is with rates under 1 Mbps still slow for data intensive tasks. My question is: if I buy a new hard drive with wireless access capability could I hope for significantly better transfer rates? If not, then I can't see any point why someone would buy this devices which in some cases can only be accessed over the network. what is wrong with my configuration that I get significantly slower rates? I run SuSE Linux on the netbook, the ftp deamon is vsftp and have a 54 Mbps wireless router which I think can still be considered standard. Is there anything I can do to increase the ftp transfer rates? I think it should be possible since even downloads over http on the same machine often exceed it.

1. I had it working before so I know they are properly connected.

2. Both computers can see eachother

3. My Desktop can browse my laptops files (but not change anything)

4. My Laptop can NOT browse my desktop as it says the network error code

5. Neither Computer has a firewall on

6. Neither Computer is running antivirus software

7. In the Homegroup sharing tabs, both computers are marked as "allowed" in the media streaming options.

8 Computer Networked / Photos Transfer Very Slow?

Feb 18, 2012

Ok I have 8 computers 2 computer will have a camera attached to it importing photos as they are being shot. (2 photo stations) Trick is I need to transfer all photos taken in real time to the remaining 6 computers at the same time. What is the best way to do this and what software to export all photos to the six computers. I'm running windows 7. I set this up as a home group but it was really slow. When I tried to use a network printer it would freeze the network? I need it to monitor new files as the photos come in. Also all photos also need to be copied to 6 different computers so guest could access their photo on any computer. This is how I currently have it set up. I have 2 Computers with cameras attached that takes the photos and sends them to PC1 (My Server Computer) The server computer also has the network printer attached. Each photo is about 300K-500K size.

Different photo is transfer every 15 seconds. The server computer is also connected to the other 5 Computers. The guest goes to one of the computers, scans a card and their photo pops up which is located on the server computer, they also have an option to print the photo. The problem is when the guests scans their card the photo is very slow to pull up ( about 15-20 seconds ) Second is when they hit print it freezes up sometimes for up to 2 minutes. I connected as a home group and first did connection wireless Then connect everything through a Ethernet cord which speed it just a little not much. Questions Do I need a better server computer?
