I have an Att combination Netgear modem-router that is painfully slow when accessing wi-fi gear remotely. Everything works great on the lan, but often times out on remote access over the internet.

I've tried resetting everything, getting Orange to replace the router (a new Netgear N150) but still nothing. I've tried changing channels in the past but never seems to last. When I run a speed test on my comp I get 10-13 mbps download on average. Here's the issue, upon visiting my mothers house and running the same speed test I got very similar results. She is running a Lynksys G router on a DOCIS 2.0 cable modem with 12mps connection. My question is, how can this be so, am I at the limits of my comps g network card? as a disclaimer I would like to note I am connected to the G band on both routers.

how to properly configure 2 different hardware devices to extend the current wifi signal of my home network.I'm using a Motorola SBG6580 DOCSIS 3.0 cable modem as my primary access point (AP) and a Netgear N300 DGN2200v1 ADSL2+ modem router which will function "behind" the SBG6580 in repeater mode. I previously had DSL for my internet connectivity but recently switched to broadband cable for faster speeds.Due to the layout of my home, I cannot physically connect the Netgear router to the Motorola modem via ethernet cable and need both devices to communicate wirelessly. I have already done extensive reading on this subject and best practices suggest that, whenever possible, both units should be the same brand/manufacturer. The Netgear appliance does have the capability of being configured as a repeater so if I don't have to buy a "network extender" that would be my preference.I understand that both units must be configured to have the same SSID, subnet, wireless channel and security encryption. In repeater mode the Netgear router can't be configured to use WPA2-PSK so I need to use WEP instead.

But I have a 10.71 network installed and cannot change the 192.168 to 10.71. I suppose this is a bug.

My router is on 192.168.254.200 and modem(WAG-200G) is on 192.168.254.100, ethernet cable is on internet port on the e4200 and on port1 on the modem. What I am trying to do is copy a folder from one computer at the backup site to another computer at the backup site, all while sitting at my computer in the main office. Let's say the two computers at the backup site are called comp1 and comp2.Whether I use Windows Explorer, or .net VB script, or XCOPY from the command prompt, if I try to copy \comp1c_drivefolder to \comp2c_drivefolder from my computer then it takes an extremely long time - around 5 hours for 2Gb of data.
However, if I Remote Desktop into comp1, and from that machine copy C:folder to \comp2c_drivefolder then it only takes 5 minutesI can only assume that when I try to copy the folder from my computer remotely that it is transferring the data from comp1 -> my computer -> comp2, and with the computers being at different sites it's very slow. What I need to know is if I can do this remote copy using VB without the data going via my computer, i.e. straight from \comp1 to \comp2.
I thought this was the way Windows handled copying between networks anyway, i.e. straight from one to the other, my only explanation for the terrible speed is that it is going via my computer. I'm writing a basic folder-backup program in VB and would REALLY like to cut that 5 hour transfer time down to the 5 minutes I know the network can do
I have a Netgear modem/router [DGN1000] (192.168.0.x) that serves as a the router for network 1 and also as the internet gateway. I have a Cisco [E4200] (192.168.1.x) router connected to the Netgear modem via the WAN port on the Cisco. This serves as the router for network 2.
DHCP is turned on for both routers. I can access all devices on network 1 using any device o network 2 including the Netgear modem configuration page, but I cant access any device on network 2 from network 1. Is it possible to have access to devices from both networks? [URL]

View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a Netgear Router at home, and both my Laptop and Tablet connect to it via WiFi. Now on both the Laptop and Tablet, Internet has recently become VERY slow. I contacted my ISP and they said everything on their side is fine, so it has to be on my side.What can cause this? I've checked for Malware but the fact that both the tablet and Laptop has slow internet points to the router. I also flushed my DNS on my laptop and booted into safemode with networking, internet still ridiculously slow.Note, both the laptop and tablet travel with me and did connect to other networks sometimes.

it works, but it is slow in copying files between my computer and it (8 minutes to copy 7.94 gig file between NAS and my PC via wire).
i am using netgear WNDR3700 gigabit router. replaced the network wires to the latest spec, and my computer has realtek PCIe GBE network adapter.
this is looking more and more like the NAS RAID 1 is the bottleneck.. possibly 7200 RPM drives would have kicked more ass?

I purchased the new Verison 290/4G modem. It workrd great until I tried to print on my HP printer thru the network. No luck.
Verizon says that the 290 is not a dial up modem, but instead looks like a network adaptor and the desk top doesn't want to run two networks - the Netgear and the 290. In other words, the 290 will not work on a system that is connected to any other network.
My wife bought her self an xbox last night so we can game togher. We both tried to get online last night, but came up with a strict nat for one of the machines. Which ever machine got online first got the open nat type. i've tried DMZ host with port forwarding for both machines to no success. We have a netgear modem router from charter cable. the model number I believe is CG3000D. she was on a wireless network and i was wired straight to the modem router.

I have 3 other laptops that can connect perfectly with my router, and normally there's only 1 laptop that is connected to my router. The laptop with the slow connection (takes 5 HOURS to load a website, sometimes will not even load), i re-installed the OS, and installed all the drivers needed, and it still wont work. it shows strong connection to me, and im sure the password for the router is right. below is the ipconfig/all information. Basically, it's so slow, it sometimes just gives up and times out.This translates into a real shoddy internet experience because something as simple as choosing airline tickets requires your computer to "upload" your choices. And of course, if that doesn't happen within a certain amount of time... Timeout! I have tested the connection without my Netgear FVS336G Dual WAN router in the way and it is much better so I'm certain it's the router.When I tell the router to use WAN 2, which is where my AT&T DSL connection is on, the upload works just fine (about .4 mbps - I'm provisioned at 512kbps so it's fine).Also, this is the case on ALL computers on the network - wired, wireless, PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, you name it. So, it's definitely not device specific.

PC Windows XP Home Premium Media addition - Main PC X2 Laptops Win7 & Vista - fully working on wireless no issues.
I have managed to get two laptops working wirelessly with no problems, my main problem is the master pc needs to be able to use this router as well, but I cannot get it to work via the Ethernet cable!! I can get to to the Routers config page, I have done the following:
unplugged and removed the speedtouch modem, the old dial up connection is still available on the pc along with the speedtouch software and driver, I left this in place just in case the pc needs to revert back to the speedtouch modem, if I am unable to resolve this issue.
I have set the ip address on the PC to static and input the relavent Subnet and Gateway I can ping the Routers address 192.168.0.1 even though I have reserved the PC's Mac address and IP Adress I am unable to get to the internet. I have tried setting up a new internet connection via windows wizard.
when i look into the nework connections section in windows the local area connection is 100mb and there seems to be another connection which looks like another internet connection this indicates I am connected however I still cannot get an actual google session running.
I hav a laptop conecteted to the internet with comcast service and a netgear wireless router that works fine. but bought a desktop and when i hook it to the router i get no internet. im running windows 7 ultimate on both machines. i am gettin a thing saying unidentified network in my network settings and i called comcast whent through resetting the modem and router with them and nothing then they tell me i have to pay them to run another machine of of my router this is ridiculas i have the machine pluged into the port on the router with anethernet cable everything is hooked up right i know this im pretty computer savy as ive built many machines in the past.
