Pending - Networking With Separate Internet Connections?
Feb 15, 2011
im intending to setup a small office network through a sever at my work and would like to know if it is possible to have the network running with each pc having its own internet connection.in theory this should work by having the internet connected via usb which will leave my ethernet ports free for the network..i would just like to know if this route will work just like that or will i need to have a rethink.

Internet connection come from an ethernet port in the wall. Cat 5 then goes to the switch and then to various computers.Desktop #1 has a IP of 10.1.1.133, sub 255.255.255.0, default gateway 10.1.1.200, DNS 10.1.1.4I want to be able to attach a cat5 cable to the LAN port of a Linksys WRT 54G going from the switch.What is the settings I need to select in the Linksys router for this to work.DHCP - Off. I guess the LAN IP of the router must fall in the range of the Main DHCP pool. Could I select anything in the 10.1.1 100's as long as another computer did not have the same IP. The starting IP of the linksys router stays in 192.168.1...... and doesn't looked like it can be changed. Does any Laptop that connects wirelessly to the linksys router need a static IP or can it obtain an IP address through

I currently have a Linksys WCG200 wireless gateway cable modem. The computers in my office are connected to it via ethernet cables and I use the wireless signal in the rest of the house for my laptop and guests. I'm (still) using Win XP Pro on all the computers.I'm about to start a work at home job doing customer service and I am not allowed to have a wireless network that might broadcast customer information, so I need to be able to prevent that from happening. I'm assuming I'll need two separate networks?All computers need internet access and if it's possible I would still like to be able to share files between the two networks (assuming I need 2 different networks), but it's not the end of the world if I can't do that.

I have a standard home network consisting of internet access provided by my cable company which is then disseminated to a variety of wired and wireless devices via a router.
I would like to create a second wireless network that is separate from my current one. This new wireless network would have extra access controls including access restrictions to some web sites using both IP address restrictions and using the OpenDNS DNS servers.
The picture below illustrates the current configuration. The question is: how can I connect ROUTER B to the internet using my current equipment (without buying another IP address from the cable company)?
W
MODEM --> ROUTER A --> ANTENNA <------> COMP 3
1 2 3 4
| |
| |
COMP 1 <---' | W
| ?? <--> ROUTER B --> ANTENNA <---> COMP 4
COMP 2 <-----' 1 2 3 4
W = WAN port
So, in the above picture, COMP 4 is connected via wireless to this second network and cannot access anything on the first network and uses different different DNS servers.
In case it matters, ROUTER A is a Linksys WRT54GL while ROUTER B is a D-Link DI-624.

I am using a 6500 with FWSM. I need to separate an internal server/HQ network from 3 or 4 different external connections. The external networks do not necessarily need to be isolated from each other.I have the option of using a 3 layer model: L2 Access layer to SVIs on the Distribution layer and then L3 to the 6500.L2 Access, connecting directly to the 6500s, with the SVIs on the FWSM.Is it better to have the FWSM outside the MSFC or Inside? Am i correct in thinking that "inside" vs "outside" is determined by whether the SVI's are configured on the FWSM or the MSFC? is there any performance impact from having the FWSM doing the routing instead of the MSFC.If the vlans are all configured on the FWSM, what is the 6500 doing, other than providing switch ports?

I'm planning to build a home network total of 11 computers including a server the other 10 units as client..i have a wireless router with 4 ports & a 8 port switch,i have read it before that i can connect my switch to 1 of the ports of my router and it can use my internet connections. anyways i was wondering if i can still use the other ports of my router as i would like to connect my server directly to the router and not on the switch so that i will be able to connect all the 11 units on my network, and also control it through my server using a client software.

what I want to do is setup a Tablet for use and share my one Internet connection with it and my desktop. I do not want the desktop and the Tablet networked with each other. there is a Tablet on Newegg: Velocity Micro Cruz Reader R103. the details say it's communication is 802.11b/g Wireless LAN. so I copy and paste that on Newegg and get: D-Link DIR-601 Wireless Broadband Router. not sure if that's what i need or what the configuration would be but I kind of know how to set it up.my question is can I connect a Desktop and a Tablet or any PC device to a router like this with out networking the individual units with each other? just to where it serves as more a splitter. is there any wireless alternatives to only "split" the Internet connection and not network the desktop and Tablet?

Running 5 PC's and a laptop on a wired/wireless network at home. One PC running Win XP Pro started dropping the network connection (so it appeared) during browsing. Have found the following:
1. MSN messenger runs fine, and doesn't drop out
2. AVG antivirus updates with no issues
3. Web Pages in Chrome and IE will load fine one minute, then cannot load or pause for 1-2 minutes while loading
4. Can ping web addresses/IP addresses from command prompt with no issue.
5. Have changed the network connection from Ethernet to Wireless, which makes no difference to the issue.
6. If I "repair" the connection, and the network refreshes the IP address, I can browse successfully, for about a minute, before the issue occurs again. "Repair connection" again and can browse again for a minute.
7. Checking connected devices to the Netgear router, shows the PC name sometimes, against the IP address, other times it shows the PC as "unknown" against the PC address (when this occurs, web browsing is lost)
8. All other PC's on the network are fine.

I'm trying to get my wife's new 'All Fine 7" netbook Windows' connected via wireless connection. I had a muted attempt at it but so did my daughter and her boyfriend. I've got as far as it saying 'connected' but as soon as it does I get a message; Error from RasDial. I think I have created some conflicts perhaps! In the control panel I have done the following:'Internet options' under 'Connection' I've highlighted 'USB 'Network & Dial-up connections I have a choice of 'My connection' 'Main Computer' 'RT28701' & 'ENC28J601' The connection I have so far seems to be using the RT28701.My other option to 'USB is to select 'Desktop @ 19200' but that didn't seem to work either.

I have fresh installed the LMS 3.2.1 without any errors. Then I am adding device in CS, give it correct credentials. Its appears in RME automatically, but it always remain in Pending devices in RME.
I have run a job in RME to check the devices credentials and it's appearing that credentials for snmp are wrong but ssh/ telnet appears as "did not try". Although I have added the correct credentials in CS for device, but it appearing as wrong in RME.
Also when I add device in CS, it's not automatically picking it's device type, until in CS I define its device type manually.

My fiance recently signed up for the Screen-wise Panel for Google research. Basically they monitor your TV usage and your internet usage. As part of the program they installed a Cisco WIFI router. I've got no issue with them logging the sites visited etc but I'm a little worried about them possible collecting private information (banking / work related stuff) that I don't want going out there. According to what I've read what's supposed to happen is they replace your router with the new Cisco router.The "technician" who came in and installed the router was actually a builder and not an IT technician and rather than replace our router he connected the Cisco router into port 4 of our router... I wasn't in at the time.
What I was looking to do is separate Port 4 of my router into a separate VLAN that can access the internet, but not access anything on ports 1-3, or the wireless. However, I want to be able to see everything on port 4 from the other side (in other words I want to see "into" the port 4 VLAN, but don't want them to see out). I also wanted DHCP to assign IP addresses correctly depending on where you were plugged in. In this example the first VLAN (your current router ip address) is going to be on 192.168.1.1, and the second VLAN (the new on we create on port 4) is going to be on 192.168.2.1.This is exactly what I'm looking to do, I could then connect the kids machines / tablets / ipods to the Cisco router and have the main machine and my work laptop on the main router... but I don't have a clue how to do it. </quote> Is this something that I am able to do with the Netgear router I own and is it hard to set up?

Brand new MSI system using windows 7. we're using a wirless network in the house, and up until today it's been fine. Randomly, Windows is no longer detecting any networks.
I've confirmed there is no prob with the router or signal as I can detect the network in my room and connect to the internet (using a homeplug hardline). I've tried enabling and disabling both the router and wireless card, a system restore (windows made no changes), and when I came to use the windows 7 troubleshooter - it says the device is not enabled?

Okay, so our old computer took a dump & our friend rebuilt us a new one and he threw in a new router to go with it. Its a D-Link router, which is directly connected to our desktop. However, upon completion of a new desk installment, we put the router into the cabinet and my gateway laptop immediately stopped being able to connect to the internet or the router at all.
1) The router is connected to the internet and broadcasting.
2) I've reset and refreshed the router and my window of available networks on my laptop, which did not work.
3) I've pulled it out of the cabinet, which also had no affect.
4) I did a manual search for the router, and it says the network already exists and asks if i would like to connect and upon agreeing to this, it returns me to the page of available networks, which does not include my router.

i have recently added to a domain. The initial setup is a server running windows 2003 and several xp machines which logon to the domain using mandatory profiles. However, after adding windows 7 machines and logging them on to the system it doesnt load the profiles. (which is fine as I understand you cannot use the same profiles with windows 7+xp)The problem is it automatically creates a roaming profile when logging off and saves it back to the same path as the other profiles under user.V2 which is growing considerably and causing huge logoff and logon times.How can I get the windows 7 machines to not attempt roaming profiles back to the server and instead to just save the profiles locally when logging off.

I am trying to set up two routers so that I can offer free wireless connectivity via three AP's in three adjoining rooms on a first floor and secured wireless and wired network connectivity in upstairs offices. The setup is like this:
Verizon DSL connectivity..static IP
The gateway modem/router is a Verizon DLink DSL 2750B with three ports connecting to three wired Access Points in three first floor adjoining rooms, and the 4th port connecting to a Cisco E1200 (wireless and ethernet router) located next to the Verizon Dlink. I would like the Verizon DLink to give open wireless connectivity via the access points and also connect to the adjacent E1200 router.
I would like the Cisco E1200 to offer secured wireless and ethernet connectivity to the upstairs offices. (connecterd to the Cisco E1200 is a 24 port Netgear switch.)I have spent considerable time talking with Verizon and Cisco/Linksys but have not been successful in just how to set this up.A former tech actually did have this setup but for what ever reason the settings were reset to factory defaults with no written record as to the necessary settings.

I have 4 computers (3 laptops, 1 desktop) in a shared office. We get internet access using their wireless network. All works fine. However, I need to share a printer amongst all of the computers. The printer is LAN enabled and I would normally just put all the PCs on a hub, together with the printer and share it that way. BUT my question is can we access the internet using the wireless network and the printer using a separate wired network at the same time?
