Feb 9, 2012I am trying to make 2 COMPLETELY seperate networks with only 1 internet connection. We have routers, switches and all that. But we need to know how to set it all up. there are 2 companies in the same office, each company needs their own network at which they can view eachothers files but in no way view the other networks files.

The computers in my office are connected to it via ethernet cables and I use the wireless signal in the rest of the house for my laptop and guests. I'm (still) using Win XP Pro on all the computers.I'm about to start a work at home job doing customer service and I am not allowed to have a wireless network that might broadcast customer information, so I need to be able to prevent that from happening. I'm assuming I'll need two separate networks?All computers need internet access and if it's possible I would still like to be able to share files between the two networks (assuming I need 2 different networks), but it's not the end of the world if I can't do that.

Mar 26, 2012Our current topology is a single N7K with two 48port 10Gb F2 linecards and FEX 2224TP in the server racks. In a few of the racks that house important servers, we have placed dual FEX 2224's. Each FEX has 2 10Gb links back to the N7k (each link on a separate LC). I've tried to create a port-channel for the important servers in such a way that each NIC on the server is connected to a separate FEX - but its failing (simple drawing attached). I've read multiple posts saying this is possible, and others that say its not. I've also submitted a TAC case and have been told it's impossible to port-channel interfaces on separate FEXs connected to a single N7k - but I find this an impossible limitation and want to verify it's actually right. Is this really a limitation?

May 21, 2012I am using a 6500 with FWSM. I need to separate an internal server/HQ network from 3 or 4 different external connections. The external networks do not necessarily need to be isolated from each other.I have the option of using a 3 layer model: L2 Access layer to SVIs on the Distribution layer and then L3 to the 6500.L2 Access, connecting directly to the 6500s, with the SVIs on the FWSM.Is it better to have the FWSM outside the MSFC or Inside? Am i correct in thinking that "inside" vs "outside" is determined by whether the SVI's are configured on the FWSM or the MSFC? is there any performance impact from having the FWSM doing the routing instead of the MSFC.If the vlans are all configured on the FWSM, what is the 6500 doing, other than providing switch ports?

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on the computer I want to make the connection on.I am also using Verizon FioS internet (comes with default router/modem combo) to which I have the DIR-655 router connected. I am able to connect to both WiFi's fine and they work correctly.I think the Verizon router is set to block incoming VPN connections and I think this is why I cannot get anyone to be able to access my computer / internet via VPN. How I can perhaps forward ports and which settings I would need to specifically change in both routers admin settings so that I can get VPN connections to forward to my computer and be accepted.

I can make connections from Site A to Site B using Windows XP clients, eg accessing exchange server 2007 running on Windows 2003x64, but the main problem is that when I try to configure Windows 7 clients to connect to exchange server on the other site, I can't make connections , no ping, no ssh , no http. What amuses me more is that I can connect to Windows 2008 servers using both Windows XP and 7.

Jun 23, 2012Does the Host file allow connections to your computer?Although I have placed some server names into the host file, Wallwatcher 5.0 is indicating that those servers have made connections. This didn't seem to be a problem before I took some online advice to add servers to my host file. I use iptables on a WNDR3700 router with DD-WRT firmware. In the iptable rules I've also blocked these servers. One example is cnbc7.net and a couple of U.S. Akamai servers.

Aug 23, 2012I am on version 8.2(1) of ASA Code.When accessing a SQL server on a secure internal interface,(Traffic is sourcing from DMZ) i'm getting some timeouts on the initial connection on port 1433. All subsequent connections work fine. Packet tracer shows the connection builds properly, and shouldn't have a connectivity issue. The problem server is a webserver that connects back through the firewall to access the SQL server on port 1433. We also have many other webservers in the DMZ which access the same SQL server, but do not have the same timeout issues. Here are my timeouts, from the config

Jan 16, 2013My fiance recently signed up for the Screen-wise Panel for Google research. Basically they monitor your TV usage and your internet usage. As part of the program they installed a Cisco WIFI router. I've got no issue with them logging the sites visited etc but I'm a little worried about them possible collecting private information (banking / work related stuff) that I don't want going out there. According to what I've read what's supposed to happen is they replace your router with the new Cisco router.The "technician" who came in and installed the router was actually a builder and not an IT technician and rather than replace our router he connected the Cisco router into port 4 of our router... I wasn't in at the time.
What I was looking to do is separate Port 4 of my router into a separate VLAN that can access the internet, but not access anything on ports 1-3, or the wireless. However, I want to be able to see everything on port 4 from the other side (in other words I want to see "into" the port 4 VLAN, but don't want them to see out). I also wanted DHCP to assign IP addresses correctly depending on where you were plugged in. In this example the first VLAN (your current router ip address) is going to be on 192.168.1.1, and the second VLAN (the new on we create on port 4) is going to be on 192.168.2.1.This is exactly what I'm looking to do, I could then connect the kids machines / tablets / ipods to the Cisco router and have the main machine and my work laptop on the main router... but I don't have a clue how to do it. </quote> Is this something that I am able to do with the Netgear router I own and is it hard to set up?

Jun 11, 2013We are planning to split the Private servers from the DMZ Servers and configure an additional Interface and segment for this purpose.
Private Servers Segment: 192.168.4.0/24 (there is no DHCP all servers' IPs are statically configured)
DMZ Segment: 192.168.3.0/24 (This is a future deployment)
LAN Segment: 172.17.0.0/16
Both, Private Servers and DMZ Servers are in a collocation as well as the ASA5520. There are multiple Branch offices that uses subnets within the 172.17.0.0/16 Network and they are connected to the ASA5520 via Metro-E.
I do not know if this is possible but what I want to do is this:
In order to avoid the change of internal DNS records I want to mask the DMZ servers with a Private Server IP when a Private server or LAN host wants to access it like this:
The FTP server in the DMZ has the IP address: 192.168.3.100. But when a PC from the LAN wants to reach the FTP server it should points to its old IP: 192.168.4.100. This way the PC sends a packet to the ftp.corporate.net (192.168.4.100) the ASA recieves the packet and translate it to the (192.168.3.100) and send it out through the DMZ Interface.
Also if the Private Servers wants to reach the same FTP the ASA will act like a proxy-ARP and send the paquet to the DMZ by means of the translation of the IP.

May 1, 2011I have 2 PCs at home. Lets name one of them as PC 1 which has two onboard LAN Ports. Now, PC1 has to connect to PC 2, just a home network for easy transfer on files and stuff, and it also has to connect to the internet via a network. The problem is both of them use static ip and when I tried configuring PC 1, it allows only one of the connections to remain active. I simply get an error otherwise saying "Multiple Gateways" will cause conflict and I will be stuck with only one connection. After much study I "somehow" connected both. I vaguely remember using the "route" command in cmd to achieve this. But now, I am getting an error when I try to access PC 2. My Internet is working fine.I am not network savvy at all. run both these connections from PC 1. I should add that I can in no way modify/change/or do anything else to my internet network since it is out of my control. I can do anything, however, for my Home Lan with PC 2. I run windows 7. Both the connections are wired, by the way.

Dec 12, 2011What I am looking to do is separate my lan traffic from my wan traffic. The amount of Lan traffic is slowing my Internet connection. The media server is the host of all my music and movies and photos and well just about everything, Some of the files are excessivly large and just kill the throughput for the other machines. I'm wondering if it's possible to put 2 NICS in each machine and have all file transfers on one subnet and all internet activities on another. I have heard it's possible to put multiple addies on a single nic but doesn't this defeat the purpose of thru put?

NIC 1 has ip 192.168.x.x which has access to internet and NIC 2 10.0.x.x which as access to server files and other docs....i have computer B with ip 192.168.x.x but want to be able to access 10.0.x.x using computer A as a router is this possible and how do i go about doing that. i was thinking about bridging NIC 1 and NIC 2 adding static route on computer A and adding a second ip 10.0.x.x to computer B NIC (i know it is possible to add 2 ips on one NIC in windows) so i can have access to the file server...is what i mention possible

The other is a semi-public network that I share with friends through an encrypted GRE tunnel system(DMVPN) over the Internet. I have a server on that semi-public network and I can access my friend's servers from my server, but not from my main PC on my private network.

I know this question has been asked to death and I've utilized the search function, but I still don't know how to make this work. I have a computer that I plan on using for important business and my sibiling has my other computer that he uses for gaming and downloading stuff. His computer is connected wirelessly to the Westell 327w. My computer has no internet access at this point. I would like to have both connected wirelessly to the internet, but keep them completely separate and as secure as possible, as he downloads some questionable things.
