I have a netgear DG834GT ADSL router which runs fine with my Belkin 51B64C wireless router but when I enable "Use as Access Point" in order for me to see my wireless laptops connected to it the internet performance goes bad, the traffic cuts out momentarily for about 7 seconds at a time, its pretty difficult to surf the net having to wait.The setup is as follows:
Netgear
Gateway IP: 10.0.0.1
Subnet Msk: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Enabled
Belkin
Gateway IP: 10.0.0.9
Subnet Msk: 255.255.255.0
DHCP Enabled
as I said above the reason I enable "Use As Access Point" is so I can see the devices in Explorer for file sharing. Is there a way I can use port forwarding on the router to see the devices it would solve the performance problem.
I am on Sky broadband and have got the new Sagem 2504N router and have the old Netgear DG834GT router set up in my bedroom as a 2nd wireless hotspot and was wondering if it is possiable to set the netgear as a wireless hotspot/bridge to boost the range of the existing wireless signal rather than having two diff wireless hotspots and having to manually change between the two ? They are both ADSL routers, obvi the Sagem 1 being the 1 connected to the telephone line and the Netgear 1 being used "Passively" via a CAT5e cable from my switch i have in my bedroom?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to connect a wireless router (EDIMAX br-6228nc) with a ADSL router (NETGEAR). i assigned the LAN IP of the ADSL modem to 192.168.1.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and enable DHCP server.then i connected a LAN port from ADSL router to the WAN port of the wireless router. i assigned IP of the WAN port of wireless router to 192.168.1.10, subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 and default gateway to 192.168.1.1 now on the LAN side of the wireless router i assigned IP 192.168.0.1 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0 enabling DHCP server.on the client pc i selected the setting of automatically assign IP setting (which it got 192.168.0.100, default gateway 192.168.0.1) but my client pc is not able to access the internet.

The second one is going to serve as a public wifi in a business, with a separate SSID. The first one is going to handle the local business network, with its NAS and printers. How would I prevent the public wifi from accessing the first router?
I have tried the guest wifi partition setting, however it still allows access to the lan devices on the first router. It does partition with the second router properly though, but thats not worth anything to me cause there are no lan devices on the 2nd router.
Would it work right if I turn the 2nd router into a access point, disable the dhcp server, and set it up with the guest wifi partition?
Lately I encountered random Internet connection issues?My router is a Netgear Wireless ADSL Firewall Modem Router DG834 (Firmware V1.05.0) and my ISP, isn't the most reliable regarding bandwidth... All clients (max 3 at the same time) connect wireless.The problem is that the last few weeks my connections is very unstable, all clients lose the internet connection until you restart the router manually.I can't even connect to the webinterface (192.168.0.1), during the downtimes.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSmall office, 2 RV042, 2 DSL connections. 1 is used striclty for the business side, and the other is for our CCTV network. They also have seperate DSL connections as we have 2 external IP address for clients to connect remotely. We don't want to take away our exisring setup, but would like to bridge both networks so a few of our internal clients can connect to our CCTV network and use some of the devices. Right now they come in on VPN but its not as fast.Is this doable without adding additional hardware? Both networks need DHCP enable as well.

I am setting up a 1921 with two ethernet WAN ports going to two seperate ADSL ISP's (via bridged modems) and one connecting to the internal LAN. There is a single e-mail / web server behind the router.

How do we define public static IP's, the example seems to show DHCP?In order to detect if a line is down, it has to ping an IP address that is specific to the connection - correct? So could I use the gateway for the ISP? The issue I have with this is the gateway might be up, but the Internet down. Next, we need to make sure that when someone visits one of our public IP addresses, the return data is sent through the connection requested. What we don't want is a situation where incoming connections are not working.From experience, load-balancing causes certain websites and SaaS applications to break because requests are coming from two different ISP's. Is this the case with OER? Finally, any links, config or something to advise how a fail over only configuration would work given we have internal servers (PAT/NAT inbound would need to translate properly with the failover IP)? Basically if ISP 1 goes down, I.E. router cannot ping 8.8.4.4 then it switches to ISP 2, until ISP 1 comes back online and switches back? This would need to change the NAT rules for inbound as described.

I cant get to the 192.168.9.1 site to detup manually and when i insert the set up CD it scans the config & says that my ethernet adapter isn't intstalled or enabled....I HAVE A CABLE FROM THE SATELLITE MODEM to my computer which works fine when I am connected direcrtly to it, so I dont get what the problem is. Do I need a different cable connecting my computer to the LAN on the router or am I missing something?

The computers in my office are connected to it via ethernet cables and I use the wireless signal in the rest of the house for my laptop and guests. I'm (still) using Win XP Pro on all the computers.I'm about to start a work at home job doing customer service and I am not allowed to have a wireless network that might broadcast customer information, so I need to be able to prevent that from happening. The external networks do not necessarily need to be isolated from each other.I have the option of using a 3 layer model: L2 Access layer to SVIs on the Distribution layer and then L3 to the 6500.L2 Access, connecting directly to the 6500s, with the SVIs on the FWSM.Is it better to have the FWSM outside the MSFC or Inside? Am i correct in thinking that "inside" vs "outside" is determined by whether the SVI's are configured on the FWSM or the MSFC? is there any performance impact from having the FWSM doing the routing instead of the MSFC.If the vlans are all configured on the FWSM, what is the 6500 doing, other than providing switch ports?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI don't sound like a complete noob but anyway here it goes....I have a small business and work on my network myself. I am a novice but do enjoy the challenge. What I have in the closet is Comcast Business Class cable into a SMC 8014 router/ gateway with 4 lan ports. One of the ports goes into a ethernet switch and then those are fed into the panel for the corresponding 7 offices. The other lan port I connected a netgear n750 wireless router The Lan network is on a separate network form the wireless network because I set the Netgear n750 Wireless Router's DHCP server to on. I did this to keep people off of the local network. We have meetings with as many as 30 members and they use the wireless in varying degrees with no problems thus far. My problem now is that I think I have set it up wrong because I need to connect to my network printers and work-group computers with my wireless laptop ....problem is they are on different networks or subnets. They all have the same public IP of course but 2 seperate DHCP private networks...Is the term "different subnets"???

I only have access to rather slow connections (256 Kbps). But since I have two lines and two modems, I was wondering if I could bond them together and make a faster one. My main modem is a Lynksys WAG120N Wireless-N ADSL2+ Modem Router, which as you can see is also in charge of both wired and wireless networks at my place. 1. I'm interested if it's possible to block certain contetn only at certain time ? e.g. We would like to block facebook from 7:00 to 10:00 and from 11:00 to 15:00. I was going through cisco manuals but can't find the right answer to this.
2. Cisco 871 has 4 LAN interfaces and one WAN interface. Currently WAN interface is connected to adsl modem in bridge mode and LAN 0 interface is connected to switch.
I'm interested if I could use remaining 3 LAN interfaces for adsl connections same as I'm using WAN interface. Then I would create vlans that would use LAN interface 0. Each of those VLAN's would use different adsl connection.I would assign different IP to each VLAN's so users would be able to change their gateway and use different ADSL connection.
WAG320 allows website blocking, to enable this you can use a keyword. I would like to use this function to block anoying advert sites (in the same way I could with my Netgear DG834GT) - However the way this function has been implemented is less than ideal.
e.g. when a site is blocked by the router, the router does not return a response - this is great until that site forms only part of a web page that is permitted. What then happens is the web page takes forever to load as the responses have to timeout for the blocked components.
The way this function *should* have been implemented, is the router should return a blank response for each of the blocked sites. Netgear do this and it works a treat, they even put up a banner saying "Website blocked by Netgear".
This is such a simple feature, why has Cisco overlooked this and how do I go about raising a product enhancement ? I've been through the helpdesk which quite frankly is a farse, they asked me to reflash my firmware which surprisingly didn't resolve the issue - they then told me to send them the unit back because it must have a fault !?!? (and I have to pay for postage of course!) I explained the issue about 5 times, but the operator on the other end was just a script reader and I could not speak to an engineer - very poor.

When I work from home I connect to office networks on a Win7 machine via a Rackspace-provided VPN using Cisco System VPN Client 5. It works well, except for one issue that is costing me time every working day.
I get intermittently disconnected from the VPN, without any warning or apparent reason.
Since I bought the router 5-6 years ago I have had no need to update firmware, so other than ISP configuration I have had no need to change the router at all and I can say it's worked well for me.
What would be the reason for my VPN connection dropping? Is this an ISP issue (my ISP is Carphone Warehouse/TalkTalk) that I have to take up with them or is it more likely a hardware problem with my router or a VPN configuration issue?
My instincts are to not look into VPN config at the moment as I know a colleague who uses the same VPN through a different router and ISP can stay connected for hours, even overnight.
A Layer 2 switch with IP Address 192.168.1.4 (Vlan0), subnet 255.255.255.0 is physically connected to ADSL Router with IP address 192.168.1.1 (which is also the gateway address for the switch). The problem I have is that all the devices connected to the switch can intercommunicate but are unable to communicate with devices connected to the Router. I guess this may be something to do with how the Vlan is configured on ADSL router?

When my PC is connected straight to the ADSL modem everything works like charm. But when I connect modem with wan port on the router and router with my PC I get no internet access. The network shows as unidentified network and win7 troubleshooter says: Default gateway not available. Currently, I have 2 Apple Airport Extremes, and 1 Wireless Netgear ADSL Router. The 2 AAEs are connected separately to the router, and this allows us to get coverage in most part of the house (it's a large house with concrete and granite walls). I also have a HP Officejet 8500 'wireless printer' that is wired to the router as you can only print to the printer when it's in standby with a physical connection to the router (that's a different story). So my goal is to replace everything as the router is slowly dying and as a result of this, I want to be able to access the Internet wirelessly throughout the house, and be able to print from any where in the house without anything connected via cables. And as a bonus, I would like the Internet to be accessible 100 yards/metres down the garden (workshop is there). Basically, blanket coverage!
