Jun 11, 2011I just purchased a T-Mobile hotspot (ZTE) yesterday. It can connect to the T-Mobile network and appears to be working fine. My Wii can connect wirelessly to the the hotspot, but my laptop can only connect to the internet through the USB cord (which it's really not supposed to, because that's supposed to be for charging the device). When I try to connect via wifi to my hotspot, my computer can detect the network. However, after I immediately enter my password, it says that it cannot connect. When I click "Diagnose the problem" it says there was a timeout.I have Windows Vista and one of the tech support people mentioned that Windows Vista sometimes has problems connecting with handshake devices (but he didn't know how to fix it). Another person said I should have about 20 seconds to type in my password, so it shouldn't be timing out so quickly. Is it something with my computer? I have a Compaq Presario CQ60. I had this same problem when I tried to connect to a friend's hotspot a couple weeks ago (I don't remember if it was also T-Mobile or another provider, though).

Sep 6, 2012I'm living in Australia for a few months and my accommodation does not have a phone line, so I've been using mobile broadband dongles instead. This worked fine until recently, when I abruptly became unable to access the internet. The laptop recognises the dongle and seems to connect, but the download/upload speeds are at a constant zero bytes per second (I have tried to ping Google while 'connected' but received no response). I have tried two dongles from Dodo and one from Telstra, with the same results. Initially, I assumed that this was simply due to signal strength, but each of the three dongles I have tested work fine on another laptop in the same location (I'm using one of them to post this). I have also tried using the dongles with my laptop in other locations, including the city centre, but with no success.
Also, I seem to be unable to connect to any wireless networks (e.g. McDonalds wifi) - the laptop detects the network ok, and seems to be connected, but I am unable to access any web pages etc. In the Network and Sharing Centre, the laptop is connected with the wifi network, but the wifi network does not seem to be connected to the internet. Jun 30, 2012I am no longer able to connect to wireless internet. I use the free internet from the shop downstairs, I had permission to use it as does the rest of the house.The strange thing is that since my Wifi went down yesterday, I have noticed its also disabled on my smart phone too.The notification says that there is limited or no connectivity and a normal repair only prompts that my PC cannot renew its IP address So I tried to renew and re list the IP setting, flush the DNS, recatalogue etc and still no joy. I have re installed my PCi adapter twice and even used a different card, pulled them out and cleaned the PCi slot...basic housekeeping
An ipconfig command at the command line shows that the IP address isnt your standard 192.168. xx type ...(its something like 165.0.01)...the subnet is normal 255.255.xx A look at the status window in attempt to manually input an IP address instead of the automatic function shows that there is no default gateway...just the odd IP address found when I did ipconfig.Ive also tried a winsock repair..no joy..also I have checked the services.msc and made sure all the relative services are enabled and automatically set.An attempt to connect to a different network ( my smart phones 3g hotspot and also my neighbors wifi) both were successful...so I dont see the problem to be with my PCi adapter......but then again I dont think its the shops router either, as both of my housemates can use the internet on their phones??..they are not tech savvy at all and would defiantly remember if they had recently changed anything or lost the service...usually its me who has to set up their computers or smartphones and they would be banging on my door if they lost the service also!Im unsure if a wrong WPA 2 key would show up as a "limited or no connectivity" notification??..surely it would just say that the key was wrong?

Feb 7, 2013For some weeks I have been trying to pair my Samsung Galaxy S2 with my Lenovo Thankpad SL500. The consistent message is "Unable to pair with [laptop]. Incorrect PIN or PASSWORD.
Well which is? PIN? or PASSWORD? - or does the system not know, so it's taking a guess? If it doesn't know, how can I possibly know?
Having read many articles about his on the www, I am still none the wiser as to what is causing this. What's wrong with the PIN or PASSWORD - is it too hot, or too cold? Wrong font face, colour or size? Wrong latitiude, longitude or elevation? Wrong time of day or month? Are the auspices in general not favourable? Am I facing in the wrong direction as I type? Have I chosen the wrong weight/color of paper for my printer? Is my body odor unacceptable? Is the length of grass in my lawn not quite right? Oh, the number of options is so large - where does one start?
Oh, and before I forget - assuming I can find what constitutes a correct PIN or PASSWORD, where does one set it? btw pairing this phone with the media player in my 10 year old car works immediately and flawlessly!
