Kindly share your insgihtson why I only get 6.5 Mbps using my WUSB600N compared to 18.0Mbps using my builtin 802.11 g network adapter in my laptop? Too bad I can't use 5GHz as Nokia mobile phones that use our wireless connecion are only G capable. Even iPhone 4 cant fully use 5Ghz in 802.11n.

Jun 11, 2011I just purchased a T-Mobile hotspot (ZTE) yesterday. It can connect to the T-Mobile network and appears to be working fine. My Wii can connect wirelessly to the the hotspot, but my laptop can only connect to the internet through the USB cord (which it's really not supposed to, because that's supposed to be for charging the device). When I try to connect via wifi to my hotspot, my computer can detect the network. However, after I immediately enter my password, it says that it cannot connect. When I click "Diagnose the problem" it says there was a timeout.I have Windows Vista and one of the tech support people mentioned that Windows Vista sometimes has problems connecting with handshake devices (but he didn't know how to fix it). Another person said I should have about 20 seconds to type in my password, so it shouldn't be timing out so quickly. Is it something with my computer? I have a Compaq Presario CQ60. I had this same problem when I tried to connect to a friend's hotspot a couple weeks ago (I don't remember if it was also T-Mobile or another provider, though).

Sep 6, 2012I'm living in Australia for a few months and my accommodation does not have a phone line, so I've been using mobile broadband dongles instead. This worked fine until recently, when I abruptly became unable to access the internet. The laptop recognises the dongle and seems to connect, but the download/upload speeds are at a constant zero bytes per second (I have tried to ping Google while 'connected' but received no response). I have tried two dongles from Dodo and one from Telstra, with the same results. Initially, I assumed that this was simply due to signal strength, but each of the three dongles I have tested work fine on another laptop in the same location (I'm using one of them to post this). I have also tried using the dongles with my laptop in other locations, including the city centre, but with no success.
Also, I seem to be unable to connect to any wireless networks (e.g. McDonalds wifi) - the laptop detects the network ok, and seems to be connected, but I am unable to access any web pages etc. In the Network and Sharing Centre, the laptop is connected with the wifi network, but the wifi network does not seem to be connected to the internet. Sep 20, 2011I bought a new Toshiba Satellite C660 laptop with Windows 7 on Sept 1st, and had no problems at first with the mobile broadband. However, on Monday 13th I noticed massive spikes in the data usage. After browsing the internet for around an hour I decided to check my usage randomly, and it was at 350mb!Since then, there's times when I don't even have my browser open and in the space of 5 minutes it will reach 150mb of usage. There's also times when it works absolutely perfectly for hours on end (including today, where it was working fine up until around an hour ago!) I phoned the mobile broadband company twice last week, the first time the person told me that it was a computer issue and to go to an IT repair place.
So after sending him screencaps of Windows task manager processes/applications/network he can't see anything that could be doing it. He advised me to do a full antivirus scan, and full malwarebytes and ad aware scans and they've all come up clean.The second time I phoned the broadband company, they told me that there were some wrong settings, and that they've been changed now but if I have any more problems to ring customer care again.So after seeing an offer with a different mobile broadband provider, I decided to buy a new broadband stick and change networks in hoping that would solve the problem.... it didn't.
So there's definitely something about the new laptop that's causing the data usage to spike I don't use any torrent programs, and haven't been watching youtube videos constantly or trying to stream online, like I said there's been times where I don't even have Google Chrome open and it's using up all my data! I don't use Skype or anything like that either (to be honest I have barely any programs on this new laptop)I've turned off all the automatic updates for as many programs as I think can have them. Ii's definitely improved a bit though, but there are still times (like around an hour ago) that the data usage starts spiking randomly.

Jun 26, 2012I'm part of a Tech Support department of 50 located along the Gulf Coast. In years past we have found hurricanes and other disasters may have forced Engineers to work from home or out of hotel rooms for several weeks. Since that time we are now using VoIP phones that require a power over Ethernet (PoE) LAN connection. Along with the phone we already have an external power brick that we can take home that supplies the PoE LAN connection. However, that requires that you have access to the router so you can run a physical cable from the router to the power brick.
That's fine when you are at your own house and have access to your own router. But in the case of a hotel, you can't run a cable to the router. Many hotels have gone to wireless only and don't have a physical LAN jack to plug into. So I've been looking at something like the Netgear WNCE3001 Dual-Band Internet Adapter. That will supply a physical LAN connection from WiFi only. But it does not have PoE. So now if we are going to work from a hotel room, we need the VoIp phone, the power brick and the WiFi Internet adapter. 3 seperate items to lug around.
Is there such a device that would allow you to pickup a WiFi signal in a hotel room and has a physical LAN jack that is also capable of PoE? I could at least lose the power brick then.
Mobile Devices Cutting Out Internet?
Jun 25, 2012I have a Belkin Wireless N1 router and it works great with my laptops and desktop computers.But! Whenever I connect up my iPad 2, mobile phone (Nexus S) or any other mobile phone, Apple TV or PS3 - the internet works and then after about 10-15 minutes (maybe more, maybe less) the internet cuts out and I can't connect on any device. The PS3 works great when hooked up through ethernet, but wirelessly the connection doesn't last very long at all. Both my parents and brother have an android based smartphone and when at home they'd like to use our WiFi instead of their mobile data - and when it comes to online gaming on the PS3, I don't want to have to trail an ethernet cable all the way to my PS3 set-up. I have full signal strength throughout the house so range isn't an issue - I've also tried connection up whilst next to the router and the connection still cuts out. To resolve this I have to pull the power cable and re-boot the router.
I have cable broadband and the modem still indicates that I have a connection, and when the internet is cut from the modem the router shows a message saying that "No internet connection can be found". The screen still indicates that it still has an internet connection but it just isn't broadcasting it...I've altered the broadcast channels but this hasn't done anything. I can connect up to my friends Belkin ADSL Wireless router with no problems and it doesn't cut out. He has his PS3 connected wirelessly too and it's all good...

An ipconfig command at the command line shows that the IP address isnt your standard 192.168. xx type ...(its something like 165.0.01)...the subnet is normal 255.255.xx A look at the status window in attempt to manually input an IP address instead of the automatic function shows that there is no default gateway...just the odd IP address found when I did ipconfig.Ive also tried a winsock repair..no joy..also I have checked the services.msc and made sure all the relative services are enabled and automatically set.An attempt to connect to a different network ( my smart phones 3g hotspot and also my neighbors wifi) both were successful...so I dont see the problem to be with my PCi adapter......but then again I dont think its the shops router either, as both of my housemates can use the internet on their phones??..they are not tech savvy at all and would defiantly remember if they had recently changed anything or lost the service...usually its me who has to set up their computers or smartphones and they would be banging on my door if they lost the service also!Im unsure if a wrong WPA 2 key would show up as a "limited or no connectivity" notification??..surely it would just say that the key was wrong?
