Desktop Sending And Receiving But Still No Internet?
Apr 18, 2013I had a customer call me and her desktop (wired connection only) is sending and receiving packets but she still cannot connect to the internet. Customer has tried power cycling her modem, router and desktop with no avail. Her system is running XP.

Jan 23, 2013The university I attend doesn't allow modems and routers, but me and my roommates desperately need wifi for our devices, otherwise they are being wasted sitting around. today I set up an ad hoc connection on my roommates laptop, but he brings his laptop places and when he's out, we have no wifi. I have my desktop computer, and I can leave it on all the time and I never leave with it, so I'd love to set up wifi on it, since it will be so much more convenient.
I brought my router from home, and ive gotten it to send out my computer's internet connection, but it brings me to the school's registration page, which I can not use, since routers are not allowed. Is there a way to use my desktop's ethernet connection and send out that internet connection through my router (it also needs to bypass the school network, somehow fooling it that my router is my computer (im guessing))? I have 2 ethernet jacks on my computer by the way.

My setup is that couple PC:s and PS3 is connected with WLAN and a NAS with RAID2 is connected with ethernet cable. The thing I would like to do is allow subnet directed broadcasts from WAN side so I could use wake-on-lan feature to turn my NAS on from remote location. Does the WAG320N option "Filter Multicast" has this capability so I can send "magic packet" from Internet to turn on my NAS? How to test the WAG320N to use WOL from internet side?

I tried to hook the computer up directly to the modem and connect that way. It said it was connected and it was sending packets but I still couldn't do anything. I've turned off the windows firewall. Jun 26, 2012I'm part of a Tech Support department of 50 located along the Gulf Coast. In years past we have found hurricanes and other disasters may have forced Engineers to work from home or out of hotel rooms for several weeks. Since that time we are now using VoIP phones that require a power over Ethernet (PoE) LAN connection. Along with the phone we already have an external power brick that we can take home that supplies the PoE LAN connection. However, that requires that you have access to the router so you can run a physical cable from the router to the power brick.
That's fine when you are at your own house and have access to your own router. But in the case of a hotel, you can't run a cable to the router. Many hotels have gone to wireless only and don't have a physical LAN jack to plug into. So I've been looking at something like the Netgear WNCE3001 Dual-Band Internet Adapter. That will supply a physical LAN connection from WiFi only. But it does not have PoE. So now if we are going to work from a hotel room, we need the VoIp phone, the power brick and the WiFi Internet adapter. 3 seperate items to lug around.
Is there such a device that would allow you to pickup a WiFi signal in a hotel room and has a physical LAN jack that is also capable of PoE? I could at least lose the power brick then.
Mobile Devices Cutting Out Internet?
Jun 25, 2012I have a Belkin Wireless N1 router and it works great with my laptops and desktop computers.But! Whenever I connect up my iPad 2, mobile phone (Nexus S) or any other mobile phone, Apple TV or PS3 - the internet works and then after about 10-15 minutes (maybe more, maybe less) the internet cuts out and I can't connect on any device. The PS3 works great when hooked up through ethernet, but wirelessly the connection doesn't last very long at all. Both my parents and brother have an android based smartphone and when at home they'd like to use our WiFi instead of their mobile data - and when it comes to online gaming on the PS3, I don't want to have to trail an ethernet cable all the way to my PS3 set-up. I have full signal strength throughout the house so range isn't an issue - I've also tried connection up whilst next to the router and the connection still cuts out. To resolve this I have to pull the power cable and re-boot the router.
I have cable broadband and the modem still indicates that I have a connection, and when the internet is cut from the modem the router shows a message saying that "No internet connection can be found". The screen still indicates that it still has an internet connection but it just isn't broadcasting it...I've altered the broadcast channels but this hasn't done anything. I can connect up to my friends Belkin ADSL Wireless router with no problems and it doesn't cut out. He has his PS3 connected wirelessly too and it's all good...

Jun 30, 2012I am no longer able to connect to wireless internet. I use the free internet from the shop downstairs, I had permission to use it as does the rest of the house.The strange thing is that since my Wifi went down yesterday, I have noticed its also disabled on my smart phone too.The notification says that there is limited or no connectivity and a normal repair only prompts that my PC cannot renew its IP address So I tried to renew and re list the IP setting, flush the DNS, recatalogue etc and still no joy. I have re installed my PCi adapter twice and even used a different card, pulled them out and cleaned the PCi slot...basic housekeeping
An ipconfig command at the command line shows that the IP address isnt your standard 192.168. xx type ...(its something like 165.0.01)...the subnet is normal 255.255.xx A look at the status window in attempt to manually input an IP address instead of the automatic function shows that there is no default gateway...just the odd IP address found when I did ipconfig.Ive also tried a winsock repair..no joy..also I have checked the services.msc and made sure all the relative services are enabled and automatically set.An attempt to connect to a different network ( my smart phones 3g hotspot and also my neighbors wifi) both were successful...so I dont see the problem to be with my PCi adapter......but then again I dont think its the shops router either, as both of my housemates can use the internet on their phones??..they are not tech savvy at all and would defiantly remember if they had recently changed anything or lost the service...usually its me who has to set up their computers or smartphones and they would be banging on my door if they lost the service also!Im unsure if a wrong WPA 2 key would show up as a "limited or no connectivity" notification??..surely it would just say that the key was wrong?
