Protocols / Routing :: Connecting Lan Network To Internet Broadband Through A Computer?
Jun 2, 2011
I have a Airtel Internet Broadband connection and I have a lan having around 10 workstations. I have another computer which I want to use as a server through which all the internet traffic will pass. The server has two lan cards(one on motherboard and other one is usb).I have connected broadband modem to lancard1(on motherboard) and have connected the lancard2(usb) to the lan switch. Now how to proceed further, so that internet service is available on all the workstations connected to the lan switch.

I have att dsl and they supplied me with a modem, a motorola model type 2210, and my belkin surf N300 router is giving me issues connecting to the internet. Im pretty sure my wireless network adapter is a netgear wg311v3.The issue im having is that sometimes i can connect to the internet just fine, and sometimes i cant connect to the internet. I know it is a router issue because when i plug the modem into my comp, i can access the internet 100% fine.I also think it is not a wireless network adapter issue because i ran an ethernet cable from the router to my comp and had the same issues. There are 2 other computers on the network, one of them is a year or two newer than my dell desktop, and has no issues whatsoever connecting to the internet via the router. The other computer on the network is a Wii, and has connection issues when playing online (probly a different issue), but can access the internet no problem.

Just recently I have one of my computers connected to my router not able to access internet, while all the other ones can. I have a wireless and 2 LAN connection to my router 1 computer from the LAN connection works but I'm having trouble with the other one. When I connect my cable from the modem directly to the my computer internet works fine.I tried resetting Winsock didn't work. Tried changing my cable didn't work. Scanned for any viruses or malware none detected. Also I can ping my router with no problem, but when it comes to pinging google.com or any other website I get the message timed out and get 100% loss. [code]

For the Record: I have a Linksys E4200 Router. My computer is an ASUS Notebook (can't identify model, doesn't show on system information, but got it in the last 3 months) My friend's computer is also an ASUS notebook (model designed after a stealth fighter)First: On my computer, I get a solid 500kb/s dl speed at anytime. If anyone else is downloading, even if they are the only others to do so.. they get speeds of 150kb/s tops (on other laptops connected to the router). I don't understand how this is, all the settings on the router are default.econd (more important issue for me): My friends come over often and play games (WoW, Diablo 3, Xbox LIVE etc)... Often when we're doing something together, only my friend will disconnect, but none of us wille've updated his drivers (his computer is fairly new like mine is), among other things.. But he still has the problem, which occurs only at my hou

I have a local DSL line in our remote office. We are connecting a microwave antennae that carries our main office internet to the remote office.I want to be able to connect both paths to a Layer 3 switch and route traffic through the main office with the router connected to the DSL as a fail-over solution.I would really like to stick with HP Procurve's if possible.

I have set up several types of servers on my computer (ftp, game servers, web servers, etc).
I have had a problem with people connecting to any of my servers. I know for a fact I have port forwarded correctly (I have checked 12 times, and I have never had a problem port forwarding). I know it's not my firewall, the problem persists when I completely shut it down.
I had an ftp and web server working about a week ago. No one can connect to any server, be it ftp...web...etc.
My router is a Netgear WNR2000v2

I am trying come up with a setup that allows for a computer to simultaneously be connected to the web via a secure wireless network and to provide a shared drive via an unsecured (possibly ad hoc) wireless network.Which is to say, the computer needs to be able to use the web wirelessly via the secure network, and people need to be able to share files with it wirelessly whether or not THEY can use the secure wifi. One last requirement is that I need a this to be something that I can set up in a given location with no more configuration than required to connect to the secured wifi - if the setup requires me to mess around with the configuration of the router for the secure network itself, it won't work.

I have connected other computers to the router with the same cable and they work perfectly. I have also tried channging the linkspeed for the network connection, renewing my ip address, repairing the network connection and disabling and enabling the connection.

I'm trying to connect an old HP desktop I have (running windows XP) to my home network, which uses WPA2 encryption. I'm pretty much a network noob so I have no idea what's going wrong. Right now it's stuck on "validating identity" when I try to connect to the network.
So far in my quest to solve this problem, I have:
1. Downloaded Service Pack 3.
2. Tried disabiling Authentication for the network.
From reading around forums I've learned that apparently after downloading Service Pack 3, I should be able to choose 'WPA2' as an option for "Network Authentication" on my Network's properties page. It still isn't showing up for me though.
Since my desktop can't connect to the internet, I couldn't download Service Pack 3 directly so I downloaded it on another computer, put it on a flash drive, and then uploaded it to the desktop. I'm not sure if this could be the problem or not, but if it makes a difference, I can verify on my Computer's properties page that I am running Service Pack 3.
My network adapter is a "Hawking Technologies HWP54G Wireless-G PCI Card". Is it possible that this card does not support WPA2? How do I tell? If it doesn't support WPA2, am I **** out of luck for trying to connect to my network without upgrading the card itself?
Why doesn't "WPA-2" show up as an option for my Network Authentication type?

earlier today my modem died so I looked around and found an old modem (D-Link DSL-300T) lying around so I decided to use that one instead of purchasing a new one. It always worked great in the past, but when I tried it today I can only find a connection on this computer (garbage computer), the other 2 computers in my network can't connect to the internet, they can't even connect to the network at all. Oh and the router I'm using is a D-Link DIR-100. This computer is running windows XP, so is another one in the network and the one I want the connection to work on is running windows 7.
