Can I hook up the old one directly to the new one to get on the internet (I want to use both computers at the same time) without connecting the old one directly to the router (because it is in another room)?

So I have a wireless router downstairs in my house that usually reaches around the whole house. However as of a couple days ago, whenever I am upstairs I only get limited connectivity. It still detects my router, but I an exclamation point and I can't connect to the internet. However when I am downstairs I have a connection that actually works. This applies to multiple laptops, computers, phones, etc.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently was given an old computer from work. I tried to connect it to the internet at home but it wouldn't connect. The icon at the bottom shows that it is connected but the web browser shows that i'm not connected. All the computers at work are connected to a network so there may be some settings that won't allow it to connect at home. I did go on to internet options under connections and changed the default connection from the work network to broadband but still no luck. None of the proxy boxes were checked either. The OS on this computer is Windows XP. Also, all connections to my home internet are fine.

I even called my internet provider and they couldn't figure it out. His internet worked perfectly fine when it was on safe mode with networking. I even disabled his firewalls and I ran malewarebytes but found nothing. I thought this was just his computer but then a day later my computer is doing the same thing! my computer has worked perfectly fine for over a year on the same router and everything but now it has the same exact symptoms as his. I don't know if this is a router issue or not. .

After a power failure nothing could connect to the internet anymore. I called MTS (ISP provider) and they had me change some setup on my PC. Now my PC connects to the internet, but nothing else will connect (X Box, WII, iPods, Laptop). They were connected wireless before the power outage through my router. MTS said they are only responsible for ensuring their model works, not routers.I have checked some router settings. It is set for DHCP with 50 users.

I fixed it last time by deleting a file in my /drivers/etc folder that was not supposed to be there (I don't remember what the file was called, but I googled it and found it was causing multiple people problems as well). In doing this I seem to have messed something up in my computer because now the problem is back.I can't connect to youtube.com on Firefox or IE. It does let me connect to m.youtube.com though. This is the only website I've encountered a problem with. Here are the results from cmd:[CODE]
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am with Virgin media (UK) and have the 20mbps fiber optic connection. My area has recently been having problems with the broadband and Virgin has recently fixed these problems. However I used to get around 19mbps now that the problem is fixed my computer which is wired to the router gets about 0.4mbps downstream... However the 5 wireless computers all get 16mbps which is pretty good for them. Windows tells me that its a firewall issue and I currently can't use two programs, spotify and steam. They both have firewall issues, even if I turn off my firewall which is the windows one. I also have avast, and when I turn that off, still no good. I used OpenDNS, stopped using that flushed my DNS, that didnt work. I tried to optimize my computer settings, by changing various values in Regedit. All of this has done nothing. I should add that I have recently re-installed Windows 7 so on this fresh install it has never had decent internet speed. Which I thought was weird.. I have basically had these problems since the fresh install. All of my drivers are up to date.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect an old HP desktop I have (running windows XP) to my home network, which uses WPA2 encryption. I'm pretty much a network noob so I have no idea what's going wrong. Right now it's stuck on "validating identity" when I try to connect to the network.
So far in my quest to solve this problem, I have:
1. Downloaded Service Pack 3.
2. Tried disabiling Authentication for the network.
From reading around forums I've learned that apparently after downloading Service Pack 3, I should be able to choose 'WPA2' as an option for "Network Authentication" on my Network's properties page. It still isn't showing up for me though.
Since my desktop can't connect to the internet, I couldn't download Service Pack 3 directly so I downloaded it on another computer, put it on a flash drive, and then uploaded it to the desktop. I'm not sure if this could be the problem or not, but if it makes a difference, I can verify on my Computer's properties page that I am running Service Pack 3.
My network adapter is a "Hawking Technologies HWP54G Wireless-G PCI Card". Is it possible that this card does not support WPA2? How do I tell? If it doesn't support WPA2, am I **** out of luck for trying to connect to my network without upgrading the card itself?
Why doesn't "WPA-2" show up as an option for my Network Authentication type?
earlier today my modem died so I looked around and found an old modem (D-Link DSL-300T) lying around so I decided to use that one instead of purchasing a new one. It always worked great in the past, but when I tried it today I can only find a connection on this computer (garbage computer), the other 2 computers in my network can't connect to the internet, they can't even connect to the network at all. Oh and the router I'm using is a D-Link DIR-100. This computer is running windows XP, so is another one in the network and the one I want the connection to work on is running windows 7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm sure that the modem/router is bridged which I think it means that it is sent to pass through the port number requests. What I did was go into my Linksys router, setup the port I want to forward to my 3389 (RDP port on the specific machine). Let's say port 45000. In the past, before Windstream took over and I had DSL with a local Telco, I would just enter my IP address and port number and I was in to the machine. Example: 171.234.54.191:45000 That would be the IP address of my modem (which just passed though the requests) to the router. Now when I do the same thing I just get an error message that looks like this: It seems that the modem/router is not passing though the request to the router. This is why I didn't want their new router/modem which the HAVE to charge $120 for worse quality machine than what I already had.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am moving to a house in a fairly remote part of Australia without a telephone connection. To get the phone connected will be very expensive and take considerable time. I have mobile phone and wireless internet connection available but only with the most expensive provider. I am not a big user of the phone but every now and then, I have to make one of those calls that go through adozen menus and then leave you on hold for an hour, theb type of call that can send you bankrupt using a mobile service. My proposed solution is to have a prepaid wireless internet account, using a USB dongle connected to my computer as the internet connection. Then to connect either a SPA3102 or a PAP 2T between the computer and a handset and use a VOIP service such as Voipcheap to make calls. With this setup, I would have unlimited landline calls within Australia for around $50 per year, much less that something like Skype. Can I do this and if so, how? I have both devices and they are both presently configured to work connected to my Linksys gateway. Do I connect the computer to the LAN or eithernet of the SPA 3102 and will it just require a normal LAN cable? How do I assign the various addresses required? Do I need any extra software for my computer?
