I have a local DSL line in our remote office. We are connecting a microwave antennae that carries our main office internet to the remote office.I want to be able to connect both paths to a Layer 3 switch and route traffic through the main office with the router connected to the DSL as a fail-over solution.I would really like to stick with HP Procurve's if possible.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a query on how the 6500s running in VSS mode would route the traffic over an OSPF environment where it has leant about two equal cost paths, but one via the 2nd chassis.Proposed setup - 2 6509s running in VSS. Switch-1 in VSS has a layer 3 connection (via a LES circuit) to one of a pair of Nexus 7Ks at another office. Switch-2 in the VSS has another layer 3 connection (via LES by another provider) to the other N7K at the other office. The L3 connections would use /30 ranges and allow each Nexus to form an ospf neighbour relationship with the VSS. We want to keep both offices environments separate so although we do have L2 circuits we're using these to provide L3 connectivity between sites & exchange routing info via them using ospf.
Each Nexus will advertise all the directly connected networks it knows about to the 6509s running in VSS. Thus I couldn't figure out if for example we have users/servers behind our VSS 6509s, these would need to go via their default gateway to get to a network located off the LAN, the default gw ip in VSS setup exisits on the control plane on switch-1 (in normal operation). Then to get to a network that is located off the Nexuses at the other site it would have 2 equal cost paths to it, however one of these paths would be via the VSL link and off the switch-2 chassis. I wasn't therefore sure if we'd actually ever see any transmit traffic via the 2nd L3 connection because I have a funny feeling that I've read the VSS always choses the local chassis egress rather than going via the VSL to use another port...
All of the above is theorectical at the moment as currently both circuits are connected to a single Nexus/6509 chassis however for improved resilence I want to move one of the circuits to be physically attached to the other Nexus & 6509 chasis at each site but I wasn't then sure how the traffic flows would be affected.
I just received a blu ray player for Xmas that has an Ethernet connection for streaming Netflix,YouTube, etc. my problem is my router is upstairs and the blu ray is downstairs. I really don't want to run an Ethernet cable from the blu ray to the router. Can I use another router on the same network and have it close to the blu ray?,I have a netgear router just laying around and the main router is a Verizon fios router.

I Just simply want two routers with two separate ISP's.I will assign the managers workstations to the faster ISP, and other Workstation to the slower connection.And it seems to work, and all resources seem to be available on the LAN, regardless of which (Gateway) Router(1 or 2) I point the workstation to.I assume because all devices are on the same LAN 192.168.0.XXX Is this a proper way to allocate and use two routers on the same LAN?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect an Xbox 360 to my University's wireless network using a bridged connection between the wireless adapter and the LAN adapter. I can connect to the internet on the Xbox, but not Xbox LIVE. I get an error message stating that my MTU setting must be 1364 or higher. I obviously cannot access the router settings because they are the schools routers and I do not have administrative privileges. So, Is there some other way to modify MTU settings without that access?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI had a custom device/computer on my network that was hacked from hong kong. It's one of those things where I seriously think the chinese have built a back door into it when they built it or something because everything was secured and monitored.The device runs it own OS or something like that I guess you could say. It can also run it in standalone mode broadcasting it's own signal. Once I figure this out I may not put it online anymore but thats besides the point right now. When it was hacked I'm pretty sure the port it uses to connect was changed from 80 to 591. When it runs in standalone mode I can connect to it but I am unable to actually access it's proprietary graphic network interface. It sends out UDP every few seconds or so and basically I was trying to search for some type of udp broadcast monitor and have tried using network tools such as netstat, port scanning, multicast, etc on all of the big three OS's because sometimes it seemed to finnicky what it wants to connect to. I've tried to let it connect back to my router again which it seems to do, but is then denied access and I think it may even have a trojan or somethng so I don't want it to that but if I have to to access it again I will.In standalone mode I've it usually trys to connect on 192...5 or 192...7 and I've tried to get through 591, 23, 80 etc. multiple times with no luck.

The other end of the nanostation is in house 2 (1000ft away) where I have it feeding into another wireless router to feed that home hard wired and wireless.Everything works but cannot get both to work at same time.

The 192.168.1.0/24 network contains some hosts that ip can not be changed. We want redesign the network and communicate with both networks without routers. I thougnt about changing the netmask for 192.168.1.0/24 in 192.168.1.0/22 (1022 hosts) and change IP's in the 10.0.0.0/24 network in 192.168.2.0/22.

I support over 500 desktop users. my problem is about in entire network because i always encounter hang network in my grave yard shift. Our network system set up have domain server, antivirus server, database server, 4 PC's use as backup servers and 3 unit of network attached storage and approximately 500 units of desktop use for production in encoding. I always experiencing network hanging then after all system will be freeze, so i suggest to shutdown all pc for usually in 5mins then turn on again. In an hour the problem is still exist again and again. I did all possible way to make the production smooth run for my whole shift but still after some hours it occurs again. I dont know what would be the possible reason why the network hangs and stuck up. The network attached storage did not reach the entire capacity, the antivirus server is still updated, the domain and database server are working properly even the PC's use as backup server. There is no internet connection we use in production, so i assure that no virus we encounter in all pc. Is it the cabling? or is it the switches?

I set NIC card "Link Speed & Duplex" to autosense & make direct connection to my modem and works ok.When I plug into the network router I get the 'Cable is unplugged' and no Internet connection.I can change the "Link Speed & Duplex" to 10Mbps/Full Duplex and get intermitten connection. Also when I copy a file from Mapped drive I get "Cannot copy xxx - The specified network name is no longer available".
1. the NIC software is recently updated PRO/100 Adapter NDIS 5.1 driver
2. Although Microsoft has suggested Symantec < ver 4 has had an endpoint problem, I have 10.1.6.6000.
3. TCP/IP Properties are on automatic like the other computers.
Have a problem connecting my new IPcamera Elro C903IP so I can access it through the internet. Did the camera setup according to the manual. Local access (wifi network) works fine but access through internet remains impossible. IP of the camera is still 10.0.0.110 but I found out that for access trough the internet the IP would be like 192.168. etc but I can't change it properly.I have cable internet and a wifi router Netgear WNDR3700v2.Documentation that I found about port forwarding etc is not clear enough to me. I tried over and over but can't get it to work .

I would like to have the secondary router use the wireless from router 1 as the internet source and push the internet out of the 4 hardline ports so I can plug my upstairs xbox 360 into the router via cat5e. I'm just kinda new to this and still learning so I'm not sure how to configure the router to do this. I can get into the settings of the router just fine but finding the right settings to tweak is a little difficult.
View 3 Replies View RelatedThe whole thing about IPv6 has been out for what is probably a couple of years now. But I find it very odd how even my newest modem/router can't even support it yet. Why on earth are manufacturers such as Netgear holding back so much on making their products IPv6 compatible? The IANA has just about given out what is left of the addresses, and we still have time to adapt by working our way over to IPv6 as it can work simultaneously with IPv4. Companies have been given years to prepare.
Why can't I connect to the Internet right now using IPv6? Not only is my router holding me back, but will my ISP hold me back as well?
I purchased an IP Cam for my girl friend to monitor her dog, she lives in an apartment complex that provides internet. I have been able to get the camera setup at my house to be accessed through the internet. I have a cable modem and a router, setup a dyndns account, port forwarded my router and boom it worked. Went to my gf's apartment and I didn't think of it at first until I was frustrated, but realized the apartment complex probably has a router of its own. I can access the cam on her LAN but not through the internet.

Im pretty sure my wireless network adapter is a netgear wg311v3.The issue im having is that sometimes i can connect to the internet just fine, and sometimes i cant connect to the internet. I know it is a router issue because when i plug the modem into my comp, i can access the internet 100% fine.I also think it is not a wireless network adapter issue because i ran an ethernet cable from the router to my comp and had the same issues. There are 2 other computers on the network, one of them is a year or two newer than my dell desktop, and has no issues whatsoever connecting to the internet via the router. The other computer on the network is a Wii, and has connection issues when playing online (probly a different issue), but can access the internet no problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a little problem with installing my new router. There were quite a lot of problems with the old smc, so I've bought a TP-Link router. I installed it just alright, it said congratulations, you have internet. I don't have though, not even on the directly plugged computer. It's kind of frustrating, since the old router is still working like before. So I plugged an ethernet cable from the old router's lan to the tp-link wan and with that, the new network is working just fine. The problem with the internet access occurs only, if the router is directly plugged to the modem. (The computers do find the network but the connection is kind of offline.) I don't really know what could be the problem, since I'm a little new to routers. I've read almost everything in the new router's manual and I'm pretty sure it's installed correctly. (ADSL username and password copied from the old settings, mac address copied, all ip addresses pinged, done power cycle etc..) I thought about resetting the modem, but I'm a bit afraid of losing the old router's internet connection as well.
View 8 Replies View RelatedWe have a PPPoE DSL link with a dedicated IP providing by a small ISP(ISP A) in Canada. We are having trouble reaching a small group of IPs in the US to be able to access some client resources.We have eliminated all possible local issues by removing the firewall and making a direct connection to the ISP. We have also had numerous tests prove successful when we use other local ISPs.
Trace routes show that the packets get dropped a few hops from the destination on a US ISP(ISP B).The routes even appear to be very similar to the other ISPs we tested. We escalated to ISP A and they say that everything is working properly on their end and the problem is with ISP B. They claim they "have no partnership with ISP B and therefore cannot create a ticket to get it resolved". I tried calling ISP B but I get nowhere because I am not a customer of theirs.
My solution is to give ISP A the boot, but management has denied that request because of the amount of effort required to switch over. How I can escalate this? Is there anyway to go over and above the ISPs?

For example : To be able to generate statistics like: During the last week - Monday to Sunday - the netowork occupation with VLAN 10 traffic was 30% and VLAN 60 traffic was 70%.
We just had a TEW-72GR router fail and replaced it with a TEW-GR. Now I am unable to get to my domain (mydomain.net) from outside the network. Inside the network, all appears to be fine. I can enter that address and get to the site with no issues.We use SBS 2008 with windows 7 clients.All clients can get out to the web, we can send and receive emails, but I can not access the domain.

View 3 Replies View RelatedBasically I have a win2000 server running as a VM in my computer with a secondary LAN address(Different subnet) which acts as a gateway for the other devices on my network (e.g. my wifi-router has DHCP relay set to my VM's address). The VM uses another network(internal NAT) for accessing the Internet though my computer. So far, I've managed to set up the DHCP and routing. Other devices on my network have access to the internet. But, since my computer has only one NIC, and even though the VM uses a secondary IP address, it's still on the same network as my internet connection. There are computers that belong to other people, who I do not want to give access through my router(even though their computers are picked up by my DHCP). I was given only one IP address for usage on my computer. This is why I wanted to add some kind of an authentication procedure(like some sort of PPPoE login maybe?)so as to prevent unauthorized usage my my connection. The question is, 'What are my options for the authentication procedure, and where do I start?' If my explanation was unclear.
View 6 Replies View RelatedWe have Linkline ADSL that was set up by them with a Netopia 2241N-006 modem and a Cisco 33674 wired router. We got a Cisco E2000 wireless router to replace the wired one. It sets up perfectly, in that I can see and connect to the wireless router just fine, but it has no Internet connection. Also, when we plug the cord straight from the modem into the computer (as was suggested by someone) it has no Internet connection, so it seems we need the Netopia modem for it work.I have connected to Cisco live chat three different times to try and find out how to make this work, and each time after making me give them all the information they insisted the uninstalling/reinstalling Cisco connect and then going through set up again it would work. On the second and third chats I even gave them the reference numbers for the previous chats so theiy could see that is what was already done, to no avail. Apparently that is the only solution they know.Then I called Cisco support on the phone (twice). The first time they insisted I hang up and I repeat the same procedure from the chats, even though I explained I had now done it three times and gave them the chat reference numbers. They said if I would not do that. The second time I called they told me that was not something they supported - using their router with an adsl modem - even though their instructions do cover it.
using the two routers together since I cannot get the wireless one to work alone. I went and bought a crossover cable, hooked the two routers LAN port to LAN port, changed the router's IP address to just outside the main router's range and disabled DHCP. This did not change anything, so I tried the one other idea I found online which was to assign the router a static IP address in the same range that the rest of the network is using, hook the two routers LAN port to LAN port with the crossover cable, and disable the DHCP. This did not work either.
well i had the same problem because i got bored and i was like hmm i wonder if i can change my IP and i tried it and i had the same problem but when i did system restore it still did not work, now i have to get a new operateing system...

View 17 Replies View RelatedI have a d-link dslg604t, i tried to do the frimware upgrade and it froze in the process. Now the internet doesn't work at all. I have uninstalled the drivers, reset the modem and it indicates the modem is working as in i have the two monitors and the blue flashing light between them shown, also all the network settings are there. DHCP is assigned automatically etc etc. I can ping the modem but when i try to connect to the internet i get "detecting proxy server", "internet explorer cannot display the page". "FTP (passive)- Error 12007 connecting to ftp microsoft.com
