ipconfig /all reports one of my three DNS servers as 192.168.1.1. My Default Gateway and DHCP Server are also reported as 192.168.1.1. This is from a recently installed Valet M10 updating an old Linksys router. The Linksys reported the three DNS servers octets independent of the router's ip and other default settings.JK

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a RV042 router. The problem that I am having with it is that the DHCP is giving out the wrong Default Gateway and DNS Server. There is no option to change the DHCP server IP on any of the settings pages on the router. I am begining to think that there might not be a way to do it. I see that there is an option for the DNS under the DHCP page but the Public IP that is being handed out is not the one on that page. I also have 2 WAN connections hooked up as well a DSL link and a Cable link (the cable link is the primary one).
The following information is provided in an effort to resolve this issue:
IP of Router 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP Server (the one that is being handed out):10.0.0.1
IP of DNS (the one that is being handed out): 10.0.0.11
What I want to it be.
IP of Router: 10.0.0.2
IP of DHCP 10.0.0.2

Client is having 1 file server running small business windows server 2003. Server is not configured with domain, it is working only on workgroup. We have around 15 users who are using that server as file server only. Now my main question is do i need to configure DNS server in that server?we also have internet connection running (have problem in that also, will explain next time) with wireless router to connected with switch. So do I need to setup dns in server also or just put static ip (I prefer static then dhcp) & dns server from ip will be ok? If I put dns which I got from ISP, so will it create any problem with using those file from server?the second question is..

I'm setting up an ACE 4710 in our test lab before deploying in production. Do the test web servers I am using need to use the ACE as their default gateway? The are currently configured to use a multilayer switch on their vlan as their gateway but I'm guessing the ACE needs to see the return traffic for load balancing to work correctly?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI rdp into our server 2008 via IP. This is a router on ip 0.1, this is forwarded to my server on IP 0.3. This server was setup with DHCP default gateway of 0.1. We added a new outside connection on IP 0.2. I was talked through the changes so that internal DHCP requests went to gateway IP 0.2 but RDP still used 0.1. I plan on getting rid of 0.1.Where is the setting to change the RDP to use default gateway of 0.2?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have been having some trouble with my internet for awhile now. It fine one second and than it will get really slow and eventually stop working. When I troubleshoot to see what the problem is it either gives me DNS server is not responding or default gateway is not available, sometimes it will give me both. It says it fixes the default gateway problem but it will show up again 5 minutes later.

Lastnight I power cycled my cable modem, and router in an attempt to get a Slingbox to work. What ended up happening is that after the modem and router came back online all the computers on my wired home network changed their default gateway to the IP of the modem and not the router. Two of the computers are fixed now, but one of the laptops is still not able to get to the internet using DHCP. I can use a static IP with the correct default gateway for the router, and succesfully get to the internet, but then I can't see my server on my netowrk. And the same is true in reverse, in order to see my server I have to go back to DHCP, but I can't get on the internet

Now i office Network admin came and changed the Setting from the LAN Propertied. he removed the default gateway of my server IP address from DNS Server and he gave that ip address to the Default gateway in the LAN Propertied tab. I'm able to connect when remote but I can't ping the default gateway of 192.168.1.1 which is in the same network as the VPN DHCP pool. I can access every single other device on the VLAN segments but not the default gateway which means when i connect I can't look at my router. And there's more, I cannot ping anything offnet (ie 75.75.75.75).
Attached are some images which show some details from the client during the VPN connect and a few from the router (i had to use the lan switch as a jump host). If you can figure this out before I go back to the coffee shop to test this tomorrow I will send you a cake.

We have recently purchased a Cisco SG300 and have been configuring it. [code] The VLANs have ACLs set up to prevent any communication between the Holly and Tempo VLANs (and their associated WAN VLANs).Each VLAN has a WAN available for it's use, which connects to external networks (including the Internet).In order to facilitate this, we have set up all the necessary ACLs and routes and confirmed that this all works.However, the problem comes when we assign the static routes that specify the default gateways.We add the two static routes below:

I can connect to the internet via wireless just fine, and everything will be hunky-dory for a while. After a while, however (this varies anywhere from a day to a week), there will be a small hiccup on the connection, and then something fails in the Acquiring Network Address stage. My computers will get an IP, but they will not get the default gateway or DNS server.I have tried a plethora of fixes, from simple computer reboots to fiddling with all sorts of settings, and nothing works to reestablish the connection. Internet <-> Residential Gateway (RG) from ISP (OEM: Pace) [192.168.1.254/255.255.255.0] <-> RV180 [192.168.1.253/255.255.255.0] <-> SG500 switch [192.168.1.250/255.255.255.0] <-> rest of network.
I know this is a cascading LAN-to-LAN arrangement. The cable from the RG to the RV180 is from a LAN port on the RG to a LAN (not WAN) port on the RV180.
I eventually want to segment my network into a few VLANs from the RV180 down. I am aware most people would recommend DHCP on the "primary" router, but the RG is non-VLAN aware, so I figure I need to handle the DHCP off the RV180. At the same time, I have also opted not to do a LAN-to-WAN cascade because I want to retain the ability to configure the RG from the rest of the network and not have to cart a computer over to the RG to do it.
On the RG, I've disabled DHCP, and placed 192.168.1.253 in the DMZ.
On the RV180, I've enabled DHCP and put it in Router mode.
The issue is that I do not have any Internet connectivity. If I allow the computers in the network to receive IP addresses over DHCP, the default gateway that is communicated is 192.168.1.253, which is the RV180. If I configure static IPv4 information on my computers to point to 192.168.1.254, I am able to connect outside, as you would expect.
How can I get the RV180 to pass out DHCP IP addresses, but point to 192.168.1.254 as the default gateway? I thought the solution might be to create a default route (or something). I went to the static routes tab but it wouldn't let me enter 0.0.0.0 as a destination IP to route through 192.168.1.254.
Further down the line, is it possible for both the RG and the RV180 to connect directly to the SG500, along with the other nodes in my network? That way the RV180 only serves to maintain the VLANs and pass out IP addresses via DHCP, instead of having it be the choke through which everything goes through on the way out?

I'll disconnect, run troubleshooter, and I'll get the error message saying that the default gateway is not available. My college is designed for Macs, but I'm running Windows 7. My Mac colleagues do not experience problems. The computer works at home and at nearly every other wireless network I've brought it in range of. Specifically, either IBM or Dell.

I recently got a new laptop and ever since, the internet goes in and out. Most of the time it is not out long enough to display the no connectivity icon or stop music from streaming but it is noticeable. When I run the troubleshooter it says that the default gateway is unavailable.
