What is the best way to gather all the files from the three machines and move them to the server and eliminate dedundancy? Is there an efficient and recommended procedure, or should I just block out a few days and hunker down for the big task...

Servers :: Small Office Networking With File Sharing For Certain Users?

Feb 4, 2012

Right now every computer is connected through a workgroup and some computers are sharing files to everyone and some need a login to share other files. I want to run a main server where all the files are on that computer and have it share all the files to everyone else on the network. I'm not too familiar with Windows workgroup networking and file sharing.I want to have certain files accessible to certain computers and certain files accessible to everyone on the network. I'm under the impression that I have to have the main server with all the business documents. Then create separate accounts on the server and hand them out to each individual computer. After, go to each document and specify who can access what with read/write. Can I share some files to everyone and have certain files limited to other computers at the same time? How would someone access the shared files when you need a login and will this login conflict with files shared to everyone and files shared to certain people. I remember on my small business network I need a login for certain computers because it is shared to only certain people then how would I access the files shared to everyone when I have to login to see the server files to begin with?

Unable To Send Files To FTP Server

Aug 14, 2012

I have a server with two adapters: and, connects to a cisco router (which I have no access to). This connects via WAN to another network to transfer files to another company. is connected to our local LAN. I have a service that uses FTP to get and send files to a server through I recently had to switch our IP scheme from 10.99 to 192.168 and since then haven't been able to send files to the ftp server. My question is, would a router solve my problem? If so, would I; remove the 10.99 adapter, connect 192.168 to the router, connect the router to the switch, connect the 10.99 gateway to the new router (and update any appropriate routing tables on the server)? The service appears to have issues with using a dual homed server and updating it isn't going to happen anytime soon.

RTL8111E - One PC On Network Can't Transfer Files From Server

Mar 3, 2012

I have an issue that I'm not quite sure how to deal with. I had a media server die on me, so I built another one. It is built on Asrock A75 pro4 mobo. I am using the built in lan adapter from the mobo Realtek RTL8111E. At first I had a problem when no other PC could download anything from shares from the server. I could browse the files just fine, but when I tried download anything It would not start for a while and sometimes it would show speed of 16kb/s or something like that and would not budge after that. I re installed the driver did system restore and that partially solved the problem. Now all the pc's except one can download files fine. It is thru wireless network (server is connected with cable to router tho). The media server is running win7 ultimate the laptop that can't download the files is running vista. I tried using different wireless adapters with laptop and standing right by the router and it still wouldn't work. My old server ran also win7 and I had no problems transferring anything from it. I have another pc that runs vista and it doesn't have any issues. Internet works fine on that laptop and also it can download files from other pc's on network fine. The router I'm using is linksys e3000, though i don't think it has anything to do with the problem.

Actually the other pc's can't transfer anything either as of right now, so I would have assume the server is the issue

Saving Passwords For Access To Shared Files On Windows Server 2K3?

Aug 20, 2011

We've recently installed Windows Server 2003 at our small office for data storage, and have set up shared folders in the Win Server 2K3 for access from about a dozen Win XP Pro machines.Upon the first access of these shared folders from a Win XP Pro machine, we're required to enter a User Name & Password for the Win Server 2K3 machine:Is there a work-around for this? Perhaps some method in WinXP Pro to save the username/password? As it stands now, any time one of the WinXP Pro machines gets rebooted, or if the server gets rebooted, users of the Win XP Pro machines have to re-enter the username/password, and I'd like to find if there's away around having to re-enter that info.
