XP Cannot See All Folders / Files On Windows 7 Shares
Feb 1, 2011On my network, I have 2 PCs running Windows 7 Ult, and 2 PCs running WinXP-Pro.When my XP PCs browse a shared folder living on a Win7 PC, not all files or folders are listed. It is as if once a certain number of filenames have been listed, something gives up.For example, on my WIndows 7 PC, I have a folder with about 400 folders of pictures. The XP PCs only see about 300 folders. The number is consistent as far as the number of folders the XP clients see. It is not a permission problem, because if I move some of the low-numbered folders out of the share, then the names at the bottom of the folder list start to appear.I even copied all picture folders to the other Windows 7 PC, and created a fresh share and still the XP clients only see the same limited number of folders or files. It also seems to be based on a percentage, and not a finite limit of file or folder names. For example, if I have 700 objects in a folder, only 500 are visible on the client. If I have 400 objects in a folder, only 300 are visible.

Jun 20, 2011I have this idea of using my old computer (which is still pretty awesome) as a back up + production server. What this would entail would be that each person in my house has a dedicated hard drive that auto-syncs folders they've selected for backing up (not Memeo under any circumstances!). Then there will be a hard drive for me to work on web projects on. I'd like this computer to be very secure but if needed, I could show my work on the production drive to my boss.

I just got the TL-WDR3600.
It seems to work fine and my Smart TV recognizes my network drive or usb hdd connected to the router.
However, the files on the network drive or usb hdd don't seem to appear/work. The folder the files are stored in are recognized, but not the files themselves.
I've plugged the usb HDD directly to the TV and it recognizes and plays the movie files fine, however when trying to find them via the wireless router, they don't appear/work.
Are there some settings i need to change to allow the TV to see/play the files?

Oct 25, 2011we have two servers in our network, one functions as a file server (windows server 2008) and the other as a domain controller with active directory and some database applications running on it (windows SBS 2003). the file server has folders for the different units in our company, these are shared folders. these folders can be accessed by anyone with a domain login by running \servername from their computers, without any further authentication required.
i have tried to set up sharing restrictions with no success, for example the Accounts folder, i right click on it and select properties, and the sharing or security. under both tabs i added three names of those that i want to have access to the folder. these names appear in the sharing list together with:administrator(servernameadministrator) administrators (servernameadministrators) administrator systemeveryone has not been added as is the case with all other folders. what is this system on the list? how i can restrict access, perhaps there is a setting that i have missed or settings in the network that prevent these restrictions?

Private Servers Segment: 192.168.4.0/24 (there is no DHCP all servers' IPs are statically configured)
DMZ Segment: 192.168.3.0/24 (This is a future deployment)
LAN Segment: 172.17.0.0/16
Both, Private Servers and DMZ Servers are in a collocation as well as the ASA5520. There are multiple Branch offices that uses subnets within the 172.17.0.0/16 Network and they are connected to the ASA5520 via Metro-E.
I do not know if this is possible but what I want to do is this:
In order to avoid the change of internal DNS records I want to mask the DMZ servers with a Private Server IP when a Private server or LAN host wants to access it like this:
The FTP server in the DMZ has the IP address: 192.168.3.100. But when a PC from the LAN wants to reach the FTP server it should points to its old IP: 192.168.4.100. This way the PC sends a packet to the ftp.corporate.net (192.168.4.100) the ASA recieves the packet and translate it to the (192.168.3.100) and send it out through the DMZ Interface.
Also if the Private Servers wants to reach the same FTP the ASA will act like a proxy-ARP and send the paquet to the DMZ by means of the translation of the IP.

I keyed in the proper password, but I cannot access the computer on the network. I repeatedly keying in the password but had the same result. I turned off the firewall on both systems. Same problem existed. On both systems, "File and Printer Sharing" are enabled in the Firewall exception. And on both systems, I can ping the other system without any problem

Jan 16, 2012In the past both of my Dell Laptops running Windows 7 via a router and belonging to HOMEGROUP, have been able to share files back and forth - with the ability to read/write. All of a sudden, one of the laptops (call it #1) was not able to find the shared files of the other laptop (call it #2.) However it worked the other way (#2 could find #1). I did all kinds of research, checked they both still belonged to the Homegroup, sharing was "on", discover network was "on", permissions were "full", etc.
I couldn't get anything to work - when I saw a suggestion that I sign off the Homegroup on both computers, set up a new Homegroup, and try again. I did this and still didn't have any luck - then decided to reboot both laptops.now I have sharing between both computers. BUT - on Computer #1 - the shared folders are like doubled. I have 4 libraries that are shared - Documents, Music, Video, Pictures, and the listed are all the 6 folders that I made sure were set to sharing - but Documents, Pictures, Music, are duplicates of the "library". I'm afraid to change any settings for fear that I'll lose what I finally gained. So my questions is - how can I clean this up so libraries and individual folders are not both shown?

Feb 24, 2013I've been trying to set up network filtering, and am having no luck. I'm trying to block certain folders on a NAS (DNS-320). My 8 yo insists that watching The Walking Dead is appropriate. So, I need to block specific subfolders so he can't access them. I would like to keep the NAS available, because there are some ebooks there that he copies to his tablet (Blackberry Playbook) to read. I DON'T want to password protect the DNS-320, because I stream the videos, mainly using XBMC / OpenElec with SAMBA shares. (If not, I can block the table from the whole NAS.) I prefer to block by MAC so there are no IP switches that happen. I also would like to block certain website (youtube) at specific times. Is that possible? Or I can turn off internet for the specified MACs.I wanted to use FREEDNS for the internet filtering, but my providers DSL modem won't keep the changes to DNS server, so that's out.
