I have a server connected to my router with a CAT5. I usually manage the server from my laptop connected to the router via WLAN. I often need to add files to a public folder on the server so it can be dowloaded by my clients when they need them. I can access my personal laptop from the server, but I cannot access the server's files from my laptop. This is recent and used to work fine. I also cannot acces other personal computers on my network that I often connect to
I have used adsl internet in network system(domain) at my work place, i can't download any pdf files.of course, computer server has limited connecting to internet for some operators.so we install a special program in server for limiting and now we cant download any pdf files.
Browsers will not download certain files. They often get stuck at 300-400 kb, but some other files are ok. Eg. I can never download Java 64 from filehippo, whereas CCleaner is good to go from filehippo.WirelessTried with no firewall, no antivirusprogram. My other computer wireless downloads.Tried different drivers to network adapter.
Every time I try to download files from the internet, a pop-up appears from Internet Explorer saying I am prevented from downloading files for my own security
Whenever i try to download an exe file from the internet, its just get stuck at 99%. It doesn't happen with .rar or any other file. Not to mention, I was able to download net fremwork 4.0 exe installer though. I tried these things: Used different browsers. Used different download managers. Disabled firewall and AV.
I am having problems with the RVS4000 ver 1. I cannot download files from the web. Firmware is up to date. As an example, if I try to download from pdf995's site, I get a "page cannot be displayed error. If I try to download current files for my flight planning software (like charts, etc.), the download hangs and never completes. I have bypassed the RVS4000 and connected directly to the broadband router and there are no problems. We have a 15MB cable connection.Follow-up - It appears the issue is file size. At pdf995's site, downloading a 2.5MB file works, but the 9 MB file does not. The file sizes for the flight planning software are rather large - 100-200 MB, and they hang as well. Connecting directly to the cable router does not cause this problem. The RVS4000 is set for Gateway mode.
I'm using Hamachi to connect two computers long distance, but Computer B is unable to open the folder I need on Computer A.Basically I use a program (A point of sale) and it has to update the version on Computer B from computer A, and also has to write client files -on- Computer A... So I'm trying to network them together in order for it to do this.
I just setup a VPN server on my home pc w/ XP pro, and a VPN client connection on my laptop w/ WIN7. I'd tried to connected the vpn server and it connected successfully. However, I wonder how i can access my server (or my files on it) when Im away from home? I kinda know it is something about web browse access.
I am installing Window Server 2008 with file Services, and I am making my clients to save files to their documents folder but those files are being saved straight in the Server. I was wondering if It is better to save files direct to the server or save files in each client?
Recently I've changed my all local I.P. series in the server from 192.168..to 10.219..& the server 2008 providing through DHCP.So, I've to re mapped the share folder to change the path in every system. But few files in 1 PC are still keeps the old share folder path when trying to open & failing or taking long time! NOT all files in that machine
I have a server with two adapters: 192.168.1.200 and 10.99.1.200, 10.99.1.200 connects to a cisco router 10.99.1.254 (which I have no access to). This connects via WAN to another network to transfer files to another company. 192.168.1.200 is connected to our local LAN. I have a service that uses FTP to get and send files to a server through 10.99.1.200. I recently had to switch our IP scheme from 10.99 to 192.168 and since then haven't been able to send files to the ftp server. My question is, would a router solve my problem? If so, would I; remove the 10.99 adapter, connect 192.168 to the router, connect the router to the switch, connect the 10.99 gateway to the new router (and update any appropriate routing tables on the server)? The service appears to have issues with using a dual homed server and updating it isn't going to happen anytime soon.
There are no IT employees at my small company and everyone else has started coming to me with their computer issues. Normally it's fairly straight-forward, but I've never come across this one before. We've got a computer that's connected to the network and has internet access, but cannot access the network drive like the other computers can.The shared drive is found under computer --> network location. The operating system is Windows 7.I've tried disconnecting from the network and reconnecting, and mapping the network drive.
I have three pier to pier computers (two Win 7, one XP). I have a new server on the way (HP Mediasmart EX495 with Window Home Server). What is the best way to gather all the files from the three machines and move them to the server and eliminate dedundancy? Is there an efficient and recommended procedure, or should I just block out a few days and hunker down for the big task...
I have an issue that I'm not quite sure how to deal with. I had a media server die on me, so I built another one. It is built on Asrock A75 pro4 mobo. I am using the built in lan adapter from the mobo Realtek RTL8111E. At first I had a problem when no other PC could download anything from shares from the server. I could browse the files just fine, but when I tried download anything It would not start for a while and sometimes it would show speed of 16kb/s or something like that and would not budge after that. I re installed the driver did system restore and that partially solved the problem. Now all the pc's except one can download files fine. It is thru wireless network (server is connected with cable to router tho). The media server is running win7 ultimate the laptop that can't download the files is running vista. I tried using different wireless adapters with laptop and standing right by the router and it still wouldn't work. My old server ran also win7 and I had no problems transferring anything from it. I have another pc that runs vista and it doesn't have any issues. Internet works fine on that laptop and also it can download files from other pc's on network fine. The router I'm using is linksys e3000, though i don't think it has anything to do with the problem.
Actually the other pc's can't transfer anything either as of right now, so I would have assume the server is the issue

Have a server linked to four computers and a laptop for a business and can't seem to access shared files on server from other computers as it keeps asking for username and password to access it. Have tried to change from workgroup to domain that the server is on so to create username and password but error message keeps coming up 'a domain controller for the domain ata.local could not be contacted or if just use ata as domain it does not accept any username or password. Also have tried suggestions in other forums such as simple sharing and creating an account on other pc's with same username and password as server. All of the systems are windows xp and the server is windows standard.

I want to centralize our files which my colleagues access frequntly in the office? For this purpose, I am using and old laptop dedicated for this job. Nowadays I am thinking of achizition of a server. But I dont know If I buy a new server, this will provide me with some performance and security in plus?Should I really replaceour old laptop with a new server?
When I try and copy files from my Windows 7 Home PC to my Windows Server 2003 share, it copies so much then hangs the Server sharing. It then appears that the share has disappeared. If I copy from the Server 2003 to 7, it copies fine, and copying from XP to 2003 also works fine. I had a chat with a colleague who told me that he has the same problem copying from Vista to XP.

Here's what I need to do. I have a file server at work that I need to be able to allow our employees to access the files when they are traveling. I know the server's ip address and know how to port forward and how to share certain folders thru windows, but this is all new territory for me.
We've recently installed Windows Server 2003 at our small office for data storage, and have set up shared folders in the Win Server 2K3 for access from about a dozen Win XP Pro machines.Upon the first access of these shared folders from a Win XP Pro machine, we're required to enter a User Name & Password for the Win Server 2K3 machine:Is there a work-around for this? Perhaps some method in WinXP Pro to save the username/password? As it stands now, any time one of the WinXP Pro machines gets rebooted, or if the server gets rebooted, users of the Win XP Pro machines have to re-enter the username/password, and I'd like to find if there's away around having to re-enter that info.

I have set up the router with a USB FAT32 Stick 8gb shared six folders with about 5gb of music inside the server only streams the first folder to the network and inside that folder all the MP3 files and another 2 sub folders but not others. The Media Server feature is quite nice to have but the fact that it is limited to 100 files is a joke. I have a 2TB drive pugged into this router's USB port with hundreds of video files and even more mp3s. Is there any chance that in a future firmware this limit to be removed or at least increased to say 1000?
i'm trying to download some poker software, in order to do this i'm supposed to grab small file from www and it has to connect with master server, get rest of the file and install it. on every platform i tried (titanpoker, everest, poker770, unibet) there's a message saying: cannot connect to master download server. either you internet connection is not functioning or the master download server is busy. i have turned off my antivirus and firewall (also windows firewall). my connection is ok, roommates have installed software easily+when i moved to another place still couldn't connect. ports seems to be blocked?

I support an OU in a large university domain. Myself and one other user are the only people experiencing this issue in an OU comprised of over 20 machines.
I just installed this router and connected the hard drive (Western Digital 1TB) which worked fine at first. When I moved some movie files to another folder they lost all of their data. The file names are still present, but all the media files show zero bytes and are no longer usable. Is there anyway to get these files back? I have been digitizing all our movies to the tune of about 90GB. What could be going on here? I disconnected the HD from the router and plugged directly into the laptop. Still shows the file names, but each file is still at zero bytes. Not a cool way to have a media server for your house!

I've recently bought the TP-LINK WDR3600 and am very happy with it. I'm using its media server feature so I can watch movies on my TV through DLNA, but have found a problem: the MP4 files are not shown. All the other files work perfectly (AVI, MKV), but the MP4 files are not shown in Windows Media Player or LG Smart TV. I assume the Media Server software simply does not include this kind of files when scanning. Is there any way of accessing the media server configuration file and "enable" MP4 files?
I've rolled back my E4200 router to the old firmware 1.0.0.1, then set up a media server. It generally works (e.g. it streams pre-existing media files to other devices). I can copy to this external drive small (say, < 1 MB) files. The drive has enough free space. However, I cannot copy to this external drive large (e.g. 700 MB) files.
