View 3 RepliesI cannot edit or save file on a network drive. When saving or editing it says it cannot save and gives a read only error. I have tried to create a new folder and place files within but I still get the same error over and over again. When I check out the read only tab it comes back again.

I have some IT knowledge but a bit rusty.I currently have 25 pcs all running web based applications on their own. So filesharing is a headache. I decided to setup a small file server for the office. This is what I need the server to do.1) Internet connection comes through server protected by a firewall and then distributed to the 5 pcs (star topology)2) Print and file sharing.3) application sharing (accounting software)4) fax facilitiesMy question to you all:How do I go about setting this up. What do I need (OS, softwares, etc)How do I secure the internet and distribute it to the rest.witch, router, etc)

View 4 Replies View RelatedRight now every computer is connected through a workgroup and some computers are sharing files to everyone and some need a login to share other files. I want to run a main server where all the files are on that computer and have it share all the files to everyone else on the network. I'm not too familiar with Windows workgroup networking and file sharing.I want to have certain files accessible to certain computers and certain files accessible to everyone on the network. I'm under the impression that I have to have the main server with all the business documents. Then create separate accounts on the server and hand them out to each individual computer. After, go to each document and specify who can access what with read/write. Can I share some files to everyone and have certain files limited to other computers at the same time? How would someone access the shared files when you need a login and will this login conflict with files shared to everyone and files shared to certain people. I remember on my small business network I need a login for certain computers because it is shared to only certain people then how would I access the files shared to everyone when I have to login to see the server files to begin with?

So I can copy a file off the server and onto my local machine. I make my edits and then try to upload it to the server. I get locked out with the message: Error 0x80070021: The process cannot access the file because another process has locked a portion of the file. I have tried shutting down my code editor, opening and closing the connection, tried different methods of reaching the server (Cyberduck and through Window's map network feature) to no avail. What can I do?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe are planning to split the Private servers from the DMZ Servers and configure an additional Interface and segment for this purpose.
Private Servers Segment: 192.168.4.0/24 (there is no DHCP all servers' IPs are statically configured)
DMZ Segment: 192.168.3.0/24 (This is a future deployment)
LAN Segment: 172.17.0.0/16
Both, Private Servers and DMZ Servers are in a collocation as well as the ASA5520. There are multiple Branch offices that uses subnets within the 172.17.0.0/16 Network and they are connected to the ASA5520 via Metro-E.
I do not know if this is possible but what I want to do is this:
In order to avoid the change of internal DNS records I want to mask the DMZ servers with a Private Server IP when a Private server or LAN host wants to access it like this:
The FTP server in the DMZ has the IP address: 192.168.3.100. But when a PC from the LAN wants to reach the FTP server it should points to its old IP: 192.168.4.100. This way the PC sends a packet to the ftp.corporate.net (192.168.4.100) the ASA recieves the packet and translate it to the (192.168.3.100) and send it out through the DMZ Interface.
Also if the Private Servers wants to reach the same FTP the ASA will act like a proxy-ARP and send the paquet to the DMZ by means of the translation of the IP.
I am using Compaq Presario CQ41. OS Windows 7. I am connected to other PCs via LAN. My computer name is "Compaq" and the ones that I connected to are named "NEXT" and "TESTING". I am able to access data to "NEXT", "TESTING" and vice versa which means that the LAN is working. I want to share a certain file to "NEXT" but I want that file not to be shared by "TESTING".

I am looking to the best way to add a link to our File server on our network. We have a win 2008 r2 server set up to share a directory for network storage. The storage server has a static IP and the way we access it now it so go to RUN and input "//servername" and it pops up the directory in Win Explorer. This has worked fine but now we are building an Intranet and I need a way to link the Data Storage on the Intranet site.

Accessing files on the desktop with xp installed is quick and transfers files at around 5-7mb/s. When I connect to my main pc with windows 7 on it, file transfer is EXTREMELY slow and almost always stutters and freezes. I've tried removing the drive from 'shared' and then adding it again, reinstalling my ethernet driver, swapping ethernet ports on the back of my router, and resetting it altogether. Still a slow transfer speed.I use workgroup all around, for xp and for 7.
