Cisco Switching/Routing :: Catalyst Blade Switches 3020 For HP

Feb 10, 2013

We have 12 Catalyst Blade Switches 3020 for HP running IOS Version 12.2(55)SE.  In the configuration of these switches I see the statement shown below.

no spanning-tree vlan 34,45-55,70,600,643,840,843-850

The 12 blade switches are configured as VTP clients and running VTP V2.  I did not configure the statement shown above.  It appered by itself.  And even if I delete it, it will reapper.  (The blade switches are interconnected to two 6509s.  The two 6509s are the STP root and VTP bridges. I configure Vlans and STP on the 6509s).

why the statement above appers on the blade switches 3020s?

I mean I use other Cisco switches such as 3750s and 3560s and I have never seen the statement above appear by itself.

Setting Up A Server Behind 2 Routers?

Aug 28, 2012

I have a Comcast Modem, which connects to the internet port of a simple 4 port switch (useless now due to lack of a second ip address as of recent), which goes out to the Internet/WAN port of a Cisco Router, which from one of the ports goes out to the Internet/WAN port of a Linksys Router.

I have a PC connected to each router, and my question is, How do I set up the network so that I am able to host a web/game server on the PC connected to the Linksys that's accessible over the internet?

Setting Up FTP Server Via Dyndns

Jan 9, 2013

Today we got our new VDSL internet connection and had to get a new router, which supports VDSL as our old one didn't.We have a small FTP enabled network hard drive (LaCie Cloudbox). With the old router it worked just fine. I configured the new router exactly as the old one, but something isn't right: I cant connect to the FTP server from the outside.I configured the NAT rules to open the FTP port 21 and configured dyndns on the new router also. On the old router all I needed to do to get it to work was configure dyndns and open port 21. However this doesn't work on the new one and I have no clue what the problem could be.I tried reaching it via its domain name and also tried the public ip address but none of them worked. The Network disk is connected to the new Router the same way as it was connected to the old one. The only thing that has changed is the new router. So the problem must lie somewhere in my configuration, as I havent touched anything else.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Setting DNS To OS X Server?

Jun 15, 2012

I'm running a Mac OS X Server on my network. I'd like to use the Server's DNS instead of my ISP's. In the D-Link Router I've set the DNS to the OSX server in the WAN section. Unfortunately it doesn't allow my clients on the network to connect to the internet when I do this.

If I set the DNS on the client to the OS X server it works fine. Or if I set the DNS on the router to my ISP's (or Google's) it works fine too.

Is this a route configuration issue? (And if so, what can I do to fix it?) Or is this an OS X Server issue?

Setting Up A DNS Server On Home Network

Jan 18, 2011

I have a small home network. My goal is to use Windows Server 2003 R2 to setup a DNS Server that can create a few simple names for some devices on my LAN, such as my printer. My DNS server will forward other inquiries (like google.com) to OpenDNS. Additionally, I don't want to setup a domain controller for my network. I wish to continue using workgroups, how to setup a Windows DNS Server on a workgroup. My biggest confusion is the FQDN of my name server. By default, it's setup as "server.", where 'server' is the name of my Windows Server 2003 machine. My workgroup is named 'Home'. So I tried 'server.home', but this does not resolve. What DNS suffix do my other machines on the network use by default? Is my domain name on the network really my workgroup name? Another thing I want to avoid is configuring a DNS Suffix for every single client machine on my network in their NIC properties for IPv4. I have a D-Link router, and if I do an "ipconfig /all" on my machine, I see that my DNS suffix is 'router', which is the name of my D-Link router. I try setting my DNS Server FQDN as 'server.router' and that doesn't work either, so I'm out of ideas.

Setting Up Personal Cloud Server

Dec 20, 2012

I am running a zyxel nsa-325 series Network Storage device with 6 TBs of HD space. This NAS has a Linux kernel and 512mg of DDRIII ram. It is also running a Polkast personal cloud application that enables access to all the files through a simple UI rather than having to use FTP server login credentials (which I have also set-up).My home office is set up with Frontier as the ISP and they provide a locked down router/modem that you are not "supposed" to replace. It is made by speedstream and does not allow editing of the dns server or anything else that would be considered needed.I have set it up as the primary router with an ip range of 192.168.0.1 with a subnet of 250.250.250.0..I have several devices (printers, PC's etc plugged into this device via lan.Wireless broadcast and access is disabled...

My primary router is a Sapido 5000 series Gigabit router.I have this router broadcasting a wirelessB/G/N siganl for mobile devices to connect to. The NAS that I opened the thread with is plugged into this router via lan (Cat7).The Ip range of this router is set at 192.168.1.1 with a subnet of 250.250.250.0.All devices on the sapido router have access to the internet, as well as the services of the first router (networked printers, and speedstream router login for admin if needed).I can access the Zyxel NAS (192.168.1.104) from the PCs (192.168.0.2) connected to the speedstream, as well as the mobile devices and laptops (192.168.1.110-150) connected to the sapido.I have installed polkast which is an application that runs in the background on the NAS. It allows web access to all of the files (work docs, multi-media, ebooks, iso files, batch files for utilities etc. from a cell phone, tablet, pc, laptop, any device I want. I should be able to access the files from the web and also on the local WLAN to allow file transfers from the NAS to the device in seconds..When I am on the WLAN I can copy/stream a video file that is approximately 1GB in seconds. However, When I am on 3g 4g or at another location I do not have access. Polkast has simply said that I have an incorrect network configuration. I have confirmed that allk the Polkast side settings are fine and their user support has also confirmed that everything is as it should be. So they insist that the problem lies with my 2 routers. Their suggestion was to go back to using 1 router (HeeHee). I can RDP into any computer on my network from anywhere in the world. So the configurations seem fine. I also have FTP access to the NAS so I believe the ports are all forwarded correctly.

Cisco Switches :: Setting Up IGMP Snooping On SG 300-10

Oct 3, 2011

i want to setup IGMP Snooping on the Managed Switch SG 300-10. I do it over the webinterface. Enable Bride Multicast Filtering, Forwarding Method IP Group Address and enable IGMP Snooping v3. In the local Network i stream up to 4 Multicast streams 239.1.1.1-239.1.1.4. The client vor the Multicast are IP setupboxes. If i connect PRTG Network Monitor over SNMP to see the Traffic on the ports i see that all Multicast streams are at every port. What is the false i do? I thought only the multicast stream that is shoosen at the client are forwarding and not all multicast streams. The IP STBs have only a 100Mbit network adapter and i have to muticast over 10 Streams (10Mbit per stream) over the local VLAN. So i think IGMP Snooping is the solution for me. Or need i also a Multicast router?

Cisco Switches :: Setting Up Guest VLAN On SG 300-28

Nov 27, 2011

I am primarely enquiring whether the setup I have explained below is actually possible, and if so then how I can set this up. I know it isn't the easiest configuration and I need to set this up without purchasing any more equipment if at all possible.I have a Cisco SG 300-28 setup with three VLAN's. [code] Default Gateway is 192.168.10.1 (Netgear Router)I have a Wireless network setup (Netgear WMS and 2 WAP's) configured with the TWO VLAN's (1 and 3). These go into ports on the Cisco SG 300-28 which are tagged on both VLAN's. The Business wireless worked fine but the guest network didn't reout out to the internet. After some troubleshooting I realised the reason the guest wasn't working was because there was no route back from the internet to the router.

The router I have isn't really ideal, it is a Netgear DGN2200, but I managed to create a static route to 192.168.30.1 with a metric of 2, with 192,168,10.254 being the hop. Success, the connection worked, the only problem is that now my guest network can see my business network because the business network is using the static route on my router to route back over to the guest network (due to the limitations of this device I can't do anything about that)Guest network can connect to Business VLAN via switch. I am assuming this is because the router is on the Business VLAN and the default gateway is the router. As they are on the same network the Guest network can inevetably see the business server and network. The Business network can get back to the Guest network via the router using my static route I created. The static route is really basic and I can't create a firewall rule on the router to prevent the Business network speaking to guest network because it only has a LAN - WAN firewall and this connection is LAN - LAN.

What I need is...to somehow stop any traffic from the 192.168.30.0 network routing to anything on the 192.168.10.0 network, appart from the router on 192.168.10.1.Is this possible? I have this setup on a number of different site, the only difference is I have a CIsco Security Router on these with the VLAN's configured so I don't have this problem. Because I have a rather limited Netgear DGN2200 I am unable to setup the VLAN's correctly and as such I need to see if I can do this on the switch in any way.

1810-24G Setting Up VLANs On Procurve Switches

Oct 31, 2011

I have:

-Procurve 1810-24G
-Procurve 2520-8-PoE

Router (with Internet Connection) is plugged into port 24 of the 1810.My asterisk server is plugged into Port 1 of the 1810.The 2520 is plugged into Port 2 of the 1810, and all of the VoIP phones are plugged into the 2520.Rest of the office computers are plugged into the remaining ports on the 1810.

After setting up the subnet and assigning an ip to the 1810, everything else just worked out of the box. I would imagine that I should segment and prioritize the network so that the VOIP traffic is isolated and is higher priority from everything else.

I tried playing around a bit, but the phones lost connectivity, so I just defaulted everything back for now.

What would the suggestions be for setting up the VLANS properly to do this?I would also need one of the office PC's (say the one plugged into port 13 of the 1810) to be able to access the asterisk server. Also, would it be more optimal to have the asterisk server on the PoE switch or the main switch?

Cisco Switches :: Setting Up Routed VLAN On SG 300-20

Mar 24, 2011

I got the SG 300-20 small business L2/L3 switch. I've read through the 325 page pdf manual and I still can't figure out how to do what I need to do. Here is my setup using example ips.[code]

I want to be able to have any workstation I put on the workstations vlan to use 69.30.44.2.34 as a gw and from there route to 170.4.5.5 and from there to the outside. Basiclly, I want to be able to route ips from two different subnets on two different vlans. I've read through the docs and so far I have vlan1 setup and vlan 2 setup fine but I have no clue how to get the routing to cross vlans. The docs say the only way to have vlans talk to each other is by routing through the vlans ip interfaces but I have no clue how. There isn't a simple step 1,2,3 chapter that gets you to route between two vlans. What am I doing wrong? I put in some IP route entries but nothing seems to work.

Also what would be some recommended hardware stats to run this server.

So I'm asking, can we have multiple computers support a single Teamspeak 3 server?

Routers / Switches :: Setting Up A Network With Separate Subgroups

Jun 13, 2012

I have a 4-port Netgear modem/router (DG834), and need to distribute its Internet connection according to the following criteria:

1.There are 11 access points (3 wired, 8 wireless) across 4 floors of a building - all cabling is from a central point, which will connect through a switch.Cat 5e cabling is in place.
2.The wireless points need Power over Ethernet connections
3.The 4 router ports serve 2 PC's and a printer in an office, the fourth being the connection to the switch.
4.There must be network separation so that:
- all points have Internet access
- there are three separate groups - one for the office, one for staff (wired) and one for guests (the wireless points), the purpose being to ensure that no user in one group can access any user's device in the other 2 groups. I'm assuming VLAN is the method for this.
5.Traffic on the network is likely to be fairly low casual use of the wireless ports, the office PC's only being used for Internet access and email no transactional systems, large databases or other resource / network-intensive functions.

1.Both the Netgear FS726TP and GS724TP look as if they will do what I want, using WNAP210 wireless access points. Could I achieve the same outcome with 2 x GS108PE switches? Any other hardware recommendations?
2.Do I need any additional hardware?
3.Are there any other considerations I have not thought of?
