Oct 18, 2011I have a CDMA compatible modem which connects to my Desktop PC via USB.it works fine, but I'd like to share my internet connection with another Laptop, Wirelessly via a Router. The router connects to my Pc via Lan cable. I activated Internet Connection Sharing in the properties of my modem and connected it to the Internet.I hoped my Router would detect an Internet connection on My network and would enable internet connectivity on My wireless AP on the Router. But it didnt. is that windows refelcts "internet access" on both the actual Wireless network on my Router ("49 network") , and on both the Physical Connection to my pc via the Ethernet port ("3G Router") my laptop connects to the router, but without access to the internet, and I keep getting an 'unable to resolve host' message in my Browser. Suspecting my Router of somehow causing the problem I also tried setting up an Ad hoc network instead (using my wlan card to interface with the Laptop directly). They connect fine, and my Printers and other shared resources all appear, but the wireless range between them is like bluetooth compared to the great range of my router.& I still cant manage to share an Internet connection between the two machines!

Oct 6, 2012I moved to a new apartment and have to wait a month or even more to get my DSL internet, so I temporarily got myself a USB 3G device to have some access to the internet till I get my DSL line.
The USB acts as 3G modem for a single PC that's connected to it, what I want is to share that internet using my D-Link DIR-655 router so I'd be able to connect my iPhone and PS3 as well.
How to get that setup working as smoothly as possible would be great. DIR-655's default gateway is 192.168.0.1, and the auto DHCP range IIRC is 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199.
Nas 2008 Server To Bell Modem To Share With Another Network?
Jan 14, 2013i am setting up a windows server 2008 to be used as a nas on my bell modem network that my pc is also on. the bell modem is then connected to a dlink 655 router by lan on the bell modem to wan on the dlink. the dlink is used for wireless connections to the laptops in the house. my problem is that the laptops cant see my nas but have access to the internet. should i switch my program for the nas from windows server 2008 to something like free nas or can i change setting in my router and modam?

Whenever i switch on my computer and opens the browser it first redirects to the page url... where it asks for Username & Password, our ISP gives us a IP Address which displays on the web page after logging in.I want the internet connection to be shared with my roommates so i bought a 8 port Ethernet switch (url..), which is having a uplink port also. I have connected the wire given by the ISP to the up link port of the switch & i connected my PC to one port of the switch with another network cable. I also connected my friends PC to second port of switch with another network cable, my problem is that when i sign into my ISP web page and start using the internet & my friend also wants internet in his PC & when he opens the browser the ISP's webpage is appearing and when he sign's in internet is disconnecting in my Pc. I tried to change the IP but as a default IP is given by the ISP if change the IP internet is not working.

The router model is Linksys WRT160N V2, the IP is 192.168.1.87 and if i connect a PC directly to the network on floor 1 i have working internet.
Home Network :: Ethernet In - Wall Updated With Setup Pictures
Mar 16, 2011My internet (via wifi) works just fine. But here is the situation that has me baffled-I have a house that has ethernet wired ports in each room, then there is a central hub in my closet. In the hub, I have a grey ethernet cord that is labeled 'service'. This service wire connects to a board that features 12 ethernet ports, 1 of which says 'in', 1 says 'security interface' and has a little nub in it, and the other 10 are not labeled. The grey wire is in the 'in' port.So I am left with 10 ports- port 3 of 10 has a (phone cord size) cord in it, connecting into the 'line' port on my Qwest modem/router. (Qwest set this all up for me, by the way). The modem/router is obviously plugged into the wall. Now- remaining loose in the hub are 9 ethernet cords- 5 blue, 4 green. Each one of these is written on in sharpie, and has a room label on it. 'Family, living room, kitchen, etc...'. So, pretty obvious, I simply found which cord corresponds to the room I am trying to use (family GREEN is one, family BLUE is another). These 2 wires correspond to the top port, and bottom port of a switch plate that is in my family room. Now- inside the closet hub I plugged family GREEN and family BLUE into the back of the ROUTER, ports 1 and 2 (of 4 available). Now- I went back to the wall- connected ethernet wires into the wall plate and then into the ethernet devices I am trying to use (slingbox and directv dvr). Neither are working.
If I go to setup menu on dvr it says it cannot find a network, not getting an ip address. is that the slingbox red lights are both solid (which means there is a connection), and if I go back to the router ETH1 and ETH2 are lit up on the front, again implying that I have a valid connection. This isn't rocket science, but I must be doing something wrong. Are the family GREEN and family BLUE supposed to go into any of the 9 remaining ports that are open inside the closet hub? Because my thought was- let's say hypothetically I wanted to use every available wall jack in my house. There are 9 wall jacks total, but there are only 4 ports on the router. So this would not work. But, there are 9 ethernet ports open on the board in the closet. So I must need to use the ports in the closet, NOT on the router? If so, are these closet ports specific? Because (remember I have a phone like cord coming out of port 3, going into the 'line' port on my router/modem) I took this phone like cord out of port 3, plugged into port 4. and 5, and 6, 7, etc... and none of them would allow my wifi to work- the INT light goes off on the modem/router at that point. But when I plugged back into port 3 (where Qwest originally put it), INT lit back up and wifi worked again. So this makes me think that these 10 (9 remaining) ports are specific somehow? I know this was a lot to read. End result I am looking for- continue to use my wifi on the computer (the ONE place in my house there is no wall jack lol), and connect my slingbox and my directv dvr to the wall jack in my family room so I can (have slingbox) and get On-Demand content for directv.
