View 1 RepliesI've been having a problem with setting up static dns 3 on my WAG, what has been set is...
Static DNS 1: 208.67.222.222
Static DNS 2: 208.67.220.220
Static DNS 3: 208.67.220.222
Now if I look in my router status screen 1&2 are correctly displayed but the 3rd entry is showing my ISP's DNS,
My modem is D-LINK WBR-2310. I am trying to set up a static IP for my Xbox 360, but am unable to. I have tried assigning it IPs from inside/outside my DHCP range, and nothing works. Every time I assign it a new IP, I forward the port in my router. My modem is an Embarg EQ-660R, and is bridged. My 360 is set up wired directly to my router (the only wired item I have). Every time I test the connection after forwarding the port, it (my 360) errors out at the first step of connecting to "network". I've searched the interweb to no avail trying to find an answer to this problem. I'm putting the IP address of the IP I choose in the port forwarding rules, this is correct, yes? General port forwarding question: What port are you supposed to choose for different games, say Battlefield 3, that I play on my PC? Is the port I choose in my router settings supposed to always be the IPv4 address within IPconfig?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently purchased one of the new ASUS RT-AC66U routers and this router comes with the new aicloud feature. This feature allows you to remotely connect into the router and access any external drive attached as well as your computers shared folders. My issue arises due my location. I live on a school campus and with this being the case, setting up an IP address that is static and is available from everywhere is not really possible. I have my router which I can setup with a static number but the school breaks theirs down so mine will never stay that way.I am trying to see if there is a way to make an address static using an update feature or something of that nature to constantly have a new IP when mine changes.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI want to turn off DHCP and setup static IP addresses, but have some questions about applying the information to my specific system.I have a Cisco Wireless Router, 1-wired computer (windows 7) and 2-wireless computers (1-XP and the other is Windows 7). I also have a dual wireless print server, a Roku box, a Wii, a Kindle Fire, and Vonage which is connected between my cable modem and router (this was the preferred installation method by Vonage).I have ran IPCONFIG /All and have all the addresses. My concern is what to use as a static address for my router first off, and then how I go about picking IP addresses for the computers and devices, and how to set then up both at the router and at the computer or device. Also, do I need any IP address ranges for any of this? I'd also like to make sure it would be possible to setup this system with the Vonage adapter connected between the cable modem and router as it's setup now.

I know how to set them up, but I guess AT&T is saying that they have to allocate the static IPs....pretty much they are saying I have to pay them so they can say ok I can use the IP addresses from xxx-xxx-x-10 to and then depnding on how many I want to have depends on how much I pay. This makes no sense to me. Why should I have to pay my ISP for static IP address, from my understanding those are things
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo recently my wireless speed on my desktop had dropped considerably. I have a 3Mb/s connection, but I am getting speeds ranging from 0.2-0.5Mb/s in speed tests(Actual Mega bits, not Bytes). Last week I set a static IP so that I could do some port forwarding. I don't exactly remember what day I did the static IP, and what day it started going slow, but this is my prime suspect. All of the other computers on the network are running at full steam. I even changed the settings on my wireless adapter back to obtain IP/DNS automatically, but the problem still persists.
I am using a TP-Link wireless USB adapter with up-to-date drivers. [URL]. I already had the ports forwarded in my router. I reformatted my PC a few weeks back and finally got around to setting the static IP again. The forwards were saved already in the router, I just set the IP to the one I had used before.
I'm trying to portforward for a game, and in order to do so, I'm setting up a static IP. I've portforwarded in the past and all's been fine, but when I'm trying to set a static IP now it allows me to portforward and host the game, but whenever I try to log into any sort of website, it cannot find the page. The only fix to this is to allow it to obtain the IP address automatically. I've had a static IP in the past and yet I've never run into this issue before.
When I go to my TCP/IPV4 settings under the properties of my selected internet connection, I open up my ipconfig(I'll post it below) and select "Use the Following Ip Address". I then input 192.168.1.73, to change it to that.
Then, I click on the subnet mask box and it auto-fills 255.255.255.0, which is listed under ipconfig anyways, and for default gateway I input 192.168.1.1. I leave the DNS server boxes blank because it doesn't list them under ipconfig and it's what I did in the past to achieve the same results. After I click OK, the issue I listed above begins.

I recently wanted to try using the Google public DNS servers on my home network. I have a Cisco E4200 router. On the router's administration page, I set Static DNS 1 to 8.8.8.8 and Static DNS 2 to 8.8.4.4 and saved the settings.Even after rebooting the router, the Setup page shows the Google DNS addresses listed above, but the Status page shows 65.32.5.111 and 65.32.5.112 as being the DNS servers its using.

Currently my router is set to DHCP and I read and heard from other sources that a static IP is the way to go but I can't seem to get it setup when I follow youtube videos or read how-to guides.Which is the best choice for a solid connection? Port forward the ports need to play the game or setup a static ip or some sort of combination of both? How to setup a static IP with the linksys e4200? I also have a linksys repeater to boost the signal strength. Its the Linksys RE1000 repeater. Also, if you have any other suggestions that might be better such as leaving my router on DHCP and making changes somewhere else in the router configuration page (192.168.1.1).
View 6 Replies View RelatedInitial setup with RV220W completed without difficulty,Need to set up static IP for one of the machines in the LAN (not static IP for WAN),I presume I use the static DHCP option, which allows me to select a particular IP for the machine I select based on it's MAC,1. My confusion stems from the manual stating that "the IP address that you pick should be outside the DHCP address range specified on the Networking> LAN(local network)>IPV4(local network)page".,Does that mean that the range on the IPV4 local network page should be modified to exclude the IP address that I want to use for the static IP..e.g. change the range from 1-255 to 1-200 and then use an IP of XXX.XXX.X.201 for instanceor does that mean that as soon as I choose an IP on the Static DHCP page, that if will reserved for use only on that machine and not used for another machine on the LAN, without me having to do something else to exclude it's use (i.e. does reserving a static IP automatically remove it from the range of IPs available to other machines)If I simply set a static IP on the local machine by going to "change network adapter" settings, what's the liklihood that the router might use the same IP on another machine.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've read and read about setting up the WAN static IP connection, and can't get it to work. I purchased this router to replace an older Linksys Router (WRT150N) so that I could better implement VPN. All I need is 2 remote connections. The Linksys Router has been working great with a static IP setting, so I figured all I need to do to is enter the same IP, subnet, gateway, and DNS settings in the RV180W and it should work fine. Well it doesn't provide any connection to the internet. As far as I can see, it has all the same settings set that the linksys has.
Is there something additional I must do for a WAN static IP setting setup. I even contacted the ISP but they say their modem is fine and of-course they won't assist with the router. As soon as I connect the linksys back to the modem, I get access to the internet.
I'm no engineer, but something isn't allowing any Internet services. LAN is fine. I attached a W7 laptop to the router, and it says it can't reach the internet due to something about proxy services. There is no proxy server so not sure what it is referring to.
By the way I tried another manufacturer router just to ensure that it wasn't a defective RV180W, but that router didn't connect either - same issue. If I set it up on my home service, both work albeit only with DHCP WAN settings.
The router I am using is the Linksys X2000 wireless-N ROuter with ADSL2+ Modem. How to give my linux server a static Ip adress. I've googled it and I don't understand how they are telling me to set it up in the router.

I have 8 RVs4000's to built a test system with. On each side of the network is 2 servers, both with 2 NIC's. Both are on different /24 networks.
The idea is to simulate a WAN link, with the RVS4000's G1 & G2 running in "Gateway" mode to simulate the WAN. All other RVS4000's will be in Router mode ('R1,R2...etc..') All networks in /24 range. As I understand it, the RVS4000 CANNOT take 2 diverse networks on the LAN side: - ie 192.168.168.1 & 10.1.1.1 on the LAN side. The NIC's on the server only need to communicate to the similar type of addresses on the other side - 192.168.168.1 on server 1 to 192.168.170.2 on server 2, but NOT 192.168.168.1 to 10.1.2.1 on server 2. The G1 & G2 link is so that all communications are routed between this link - as a testing point.
So, my questions are this:
1) Will this work? Is there any easier way of doing this? (Bear in mind this is the only equipment i have to do this).
2) Is the static routing I have thought of work? (see below)
R1
0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 10.1.1.10
R2
5.5.5.0 255.255.255.0 10.1.1.100
4.4.4.0 255.255.255.0 1.1.1.200
[code]....
I know using the RVS4000's inbuilt RIP may be easier, but I've never configured RIP routing. As this is a test environment, using static routing would be enough to get it going. No security lock down is required, all I'm trying to enable is for the servers to communicate with each other (NIC1 on both servers e.g 10.1.1.1 on server 1 to 10.1.2.1 on NIC 1server 2, and NI 2 on server 1 192.168.168.1 to NI 2 on server 2 192.168.170.1) The 10.1.x.x networks DO not need to talk to the 192.168.x.x networks. THe G1 & G2 link is just for testing - but all communications must pass through here and be routed to their relevant networks on the other side.
I currently have cable internet connected to one router (Linksys E2000 w/ firmware v1.0.03). That router is connected to another router, a Linksys E3200 w/ firmware v1.0.02. In order to properly forward ports through the E3200, I understand that I need to set up a static IP on that router.I've basically followed the steps outlined in this video, but when I enter all the IP addresses for Static IP settings, it won't allow me to access the router's setup page. I try entering the new IP that I've given it (which it tries to direct itself to automatically after I save the settings) and the connection times out. I am able to access the internet otherwise, however. From here I'm forced to do a factory reset on the router and start from square one.
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy old modem from Roadrunner (Time Warner) died and the service man replaced it with a Arris TG852 modem/router. then my problems began. I would like to have the Arris modem act like a modem and not a router. The network governed by the DIR works fine but none of the clients can connect to the internet. Below are the steps I have tried.in both steps below, The DIR is connected to the Arris using the Ethernet not the Wan port.
1. I tried disabling DHCP on the Arris router and setting a static IP address for the DIR router. This worked for a bit and then quit. Some of the computers said there were duplicate IP addresses on the network. If fact the same IP address showed up in the DNS list of the Arris and the DIR routers.. even though the Arris router had DNS disabled.
2. After reading other forums. I enabled DHCP on the Arris and set it to passout IP address between 192.168.0.2 and 192.168.0.99. I then setup the DOR to pass out addresses between 192.168.0.100 and 192.168.0.200. then moved the DIR into the DMZ of the Arris. Still no access to the internet.
I'm following a tutorial that 'dumbs down' the modem and lets me use the router for everything.
It asks me to set up a static LAN IP (10.x.x.x range) and edit the DHCP pool of the router. When I'm logged in to the routers admin, it doesn't seem I'm able to do any of this.
Earlier in the tutorial it also asked me to set up a static IP for the router, which I did I suppose.
I've added a screenshot of the admin panel, in case that's relevant.
Today I installed the 1.0.2.6 Firmware on a RV180W. I only have now two problems regarding the Static DHCP support in the GUI.
1. Via the Networking > LAN (Local Network) > Static DHCP I have no buttons to Add a new static Lease.
2. Via the Networking > LAN (Local Network) > DHCP Lease Clients I can thick a Lease and click on Make Static IP. The result is an error: Operation failed.
When using pppoe, my router won't obtain DNS, but i have heard from the past owner that you have to set it up manually. I simply can't find the screen in the web interface. Do i need to telnet it?

The tech guy said I need a HUB...but I'm not sure what kind and where to get one etc. Secondly, even if I am able to get this second IP going, will they be entirely separate IP addresses? I need the IP addresses to be completely separate and untraceable to the same source. Is this the case or can you somehow trace back the two dynamic IP's to the same source IP? Will I need two different static IP's if I want the two connections to be entirely separate, unrelated, and untraceable from each other?
