I am trying to give an static ip address to a time clock on my network and for some reason when I connect time clock to network it will always get an ip address from a different network. for example my computer IP address is 192.168.2.70 when connected to network, my default gateway is 192.168.2.1, the IP address that the time clock always gets is 192.168.1.120, there is no way to tell the time clock what IP address I wanted to be it has to get it from router (that is what the manufacturer told me), router (16portLiksys) does not have DHCP enabled the guy who set up network left it disabled, on his notes he says server (dell server T110) is acting as router is that true that a server can be acting as router?what do guys think is going on here?all the computers hooked up to network have static IP address.I also notice that when I connect a computer to router it will get an IP address from different network the same as time clock.I tried to reserve ip address on router by entering MAC address from time clock but it won't work. I am not very familiar with the server settings I have not try changing settings on server, I am not even sure the guy who set up network is right about using server as router.

The knowledge base only seems to show how to assign an IP address in the XBOX but when I have to reboot the router, I've noticed the XBOX is assigned a new IP address when viewed in the router pages.
If I set a permanent IP address in the XBOX, this will no longer match what is in the router.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy local DHCP server mis-assigns IP Addresses of 192.168.x.x to laptops every morning.It has been suggested that one of my print servers (two Fierys and a Creo) is pushing 192.168.x.x onto the network but I think I've ruled that out. have an XP Pro desktop running a standard Windows bridge that connects a wireless Netgear router to the local Cisco switch. This has worked flawlessly for a couple of years so I hesitate to blame the bridge.My remote IT dept pushed a change/update to all locations having to do with address lease duration. I do not know details.Is there a way I can identify the source of the problem if I do not have admin access to the DHCP server? The only local control I have is to cycle power.

I used to be able to simply and quickly change my IP address, by changing the MAC address though my Netgear router. Now when I do that, I can see the IP address has changed in the router settings, but when I double check it using ipburger.com, the IP address does NOT actually change, but remains the same.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor over a month I am trying to find a way that makes me able to use two internet connections at the same time, and assign certain programs to one connection. This is because me and my brother do game on the ADSL cause of the low latency of it, when one of us do surf the whole connection lags. I do have 2 internet connections at home, one is ADSL(1.5MB Connection) and one is WiMAX(10MB Connection). Both of these routers/modems are connected to the same network. I want to use the ADSL for gaming(light usage) and the WiMAX one for browsing and downloading(heavy usage).
I came up with three ways:
1) ForceBindIP - (1) (2) - Didn't work for me with Windows 7 64bit on Firefox 12.0
2) Using VMWare - Which I do not want to.
3) Using Astaro Security Gateway Home Edition - Which is a bit complicated and I have to run a dedicated PC for it with special setup in order to make it work (Live Demo)

I have a Tenda W300d modem/router that works fine sometimes, but others, like now, it's being a real pain and not connecting with some of my devices, I have a PC, laptop, PS3 and phones that mostly happily share connection, the PS3 is connected via cable.sometimes it just won't allow things to connect, I try rebooting it, sometimes it works, sometimes not.IS there something basic I'm missing? the control panel for it seems quite comprehensive, but I'm no expert at it.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 2011 SBS and Windows 7 clients.My server has a DHCP range of 192.x.x.150 to 192.x.x.199 and all other I.P. addresses are static. On a workstation located at I.P. 192.x.x.13 I am seeing an address conflict.When I perform an "nbtstat -a 192.x.x.13" command from the server I am given the logical computer name of a staff members personal laptop.Investigation of the laptop reveals that it is set to DHCP, and clearly the address of 192.x.x.13 is outside of my servers DHCP scope, so this I.P.should never be assigned, let alone in duplicate.I Google this topic before posting, and it was suggested that IPv6 could be having an adverse affect. I determined this because I performed a ping on the laptop and only got a MAC address back rather than an I.P. address.However after unticking IPv6, and rebooting, the laptop is still causing havoc.I can set a static I.P. address on the laptop, however this is not ideal.

That server recently, died (someone put the .VHD file on a massive RAID 0 array, and that went boom), and I need to set it back up again. All the DNS entries appear to still be there, but how to assign the external IP to the network adapter. I tried Google, but my Google-fu must be weak today as I can't find anything useful.
It's a Server 2008 R2 machine running inside Hyper-V. Nothing's changed except for the new Windows install, it's running with the exact same VM settings, which I didn't touch except to add a new VHD.
Is it possible to assign a L3 switch port with a public IP? How do you rallow data from the Internet to the above port, if possible?

Today I installed the 1.0.2.6 Firmware on a RV180W. I only have now two problems regarding the Static DHCP support in the GUI.
1. Via the Networking > LAN (Local Network) > Static DHCP I have no buttons to Add a new static Lease.
2. Via the Networking > LAN (Local Network) > DHCP Lease Clients I can thick a Lease and click on Make Static IP. The result is an error: Operation failed.
I have a win xp system which connects to internal network & Internet. The problem I have is, for each work i need to change the IP address.
Ex: For internal network the ip should be 192.168.0.1 To connect to internet the ip should be 192.168.1.1
Now I want to be connected to both internal network as well as internet at the same time. So what should I do ?
* I can not add another physical network card.
* I can not change the IP's of any other system or config servers etc... (as it is used by our internal application, doing so will make a mess.)
* I have the admin rights so any software changes to my system can be done.
So i was hoping to add a virtual network card, and configure it to the new IP. So can that be done ? if so how ?
I just got a brand new laptop and I can't get it to connect to LAN.It's plugged in to the same hub as my main machine and I can't even access my router UI.It's not the cable because I tried plugging in my main machine's cable to the new laptop and the same thing happens.ipconfig reveals an Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address of: 169.254.197.187 But that number should say 192.168.1.1xx I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Ethernet driver as well.I've tried resetting the router and modem.I've tried resetting TCP/IP.
View 13 Replies View RelatedBriefly here is my setup Internet is supplied to my building by ISP(I have no router) => apple time capsule connected by Ethernet.I have used WIFI to connect all of my devices in the past with no problem until i moved into this place. I have 2 macbooks that can connect without any issues Every single other device in the house cannot connect and does not receive a proper IP Address. The ones being assigned are in the 169.xxxxxx range. Even if i plug my Imac (which cant connect) directly in from the wall via ethernet, it wont connect.The time capsule is setup as a bridge with DCHP set to run automatically. I have reset everything numerous times and restored the router to no avail.I called the ISP and they said it wasnt their problem. I was under the impression they werent assigning the IP Address correctly or something.

However, a lot of these items such as smart phones with wi-fi, Kindles etc don't seem to have a name that identifies them on the device info page. All of our laptops and desktops are identified, but none of the phones etc. Is it possible to assign names to MAC addresses at all?

View 2 Replies View RelatedMy company wants to create a VPN Tunnel to allow a remote office to connect to ours. I purchased 2 ASA 5505 and I was expecting to be able to set this up without any issues. Sadly, that is not the case.
What I'm having trouble with is configuring my Public IP Address to the device. I go through the setup wizard and enter the IP Address like normal, but I have no option to input my ISP's subnet, Gateway or DNS. Without those, I get no internet connection. I know there is a way to do this, but I'm stumped.
My Specs:
2 ASA 5505 series
ISP Modem (Which they control) - SMC SMCD3GN with DHCP disabled

Now if I look in my router status screen 1&2 are correctly displayed but the 3rd entry is showing my ISP's DNS,
hrome threw me a DNS lookup failed. I go into my network settings and I noticed that I had limited connectivity. It would switch between no network access and no internet access every few seconds. After a bit of fiddling around, I got it to connect through assigning myself a static IP. This isn't exactly convenient because I use this computer on multiple networks. When I try to have it on automatic IP, I get no IP address or default gateway when I do an ipconfig /all. It would appear that my router quit assigning my laptop an IP for no reason whatsoever. DHCP is enabled on the router, and all other devices work fine. What could possibly be the problem here? I'm 99% sure it's not an IP conflict either. It's not being MAC filtered because I'm on the thing right now posting this through a static IP. It's not my A/V because it's worked great in the past. Perhaps I should also mention it occasionally says "unidentified network" instead of the SSID
View 8 Replies View RelatedThe WRT110 is hooked up to Cable through Comcast and works fine with LAN connections. The problem comes in with more than one wireless laptop tries to connect. First, it was loaded with 1.0.4 firmware and my girlfriend's XP laptop would connect but drop the connection a lot. My Windows 7 laptop wouldn't connect at all. After trying everything someone recommended upgrading the firmware to 1.0.7. Well, now my Windows 7 laptop connects but the XP laptop will not. The DHCP won't assign it an IP, although it says it's connected.

Here is where it gets a little tricky. Since this device has 2 WAN ports, is it possible to assign a seperate IP address for each from our ISP? Then, what we would like to do is assign a couple LAN ports to have the traffic flow through WAN1 and the other LAN ports to flow through WAN2. The LAN addressing can be on the same subnet or seperate.
I have two WAP4410N devices on my network.When I try to connect with a wireless device (iPad, Smartphone, etc...) it does not connect.However, if I assing that device a static IP, it connects.Here is the setup:

I'm fairly new to Cisco configuration and I am looking at a problem for a client that involves the use of a Cisco 887 (wired only) as the main router/gateway. The problem I am investigating involves the allocatoni of DHCP addresses from the device to a product we have designed that connects to the router. I am attempting to set the 880 up on the bench with no ADSL connection and just use the DHCP feature of the box for the 4 switch ports on the back. I have tried all kinds of configurations from default. Whatever I do I can't get the router to assign an IP address to anything that is plugged in (Windows or Linux machines). What could I be doing wrong ? It can't be that difficult to get the system to just act as a DHCP server.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have 1 x C2900 router with 3 x ADSL WIC and UC500. I setup 3 x ADSL to access internet and UC500 is connected with 3 telephone lines (plugged into FXO ports). I have 2 x GE on my 2900. 1st GE is connected to switch and 2nd GE is connected to UC500.
I want to setup that traffic from UC500 (SIP) is going through 1 dedicated ADSL line and data (from computers & servers) is going through remaining 2 interfaces only. How I can set it up.
I would also like to know how I can load balance internet connection going through 2 dedicated data ADSL lines.
We have a dsl connection on 897 dsl router at the customers HO.The telephone line is directly connected to router we configured dialer with username and password and it takes a static ip of 212.249.213.xxx.Now he has some branches that are connected through wireless links and he has arranged for a subnet of 8 public IP's in the range 72.70.245.xxx
Can we some how use these public ip's as secondary in the routers dialer interface and assign to the servers in the branches so that it can be accessed through web.
DHCP is assigning multiple leases per machine. The server itself grabs about 10 IPs with Unique ID "RAS"
View 1 Replies View Relatedproblem I have encountered with a Cisco E4200v2 router (with current firmware update) which is just over three months old. The other day my internet connection (cable "always on") hiccuped a couple of time (which is not unusual for this area). However, when the service finally restored itself, I lost a PC and printer from my home network, and the ability to connect to the internet with the wired PC. Outages like this are normal in this area and have not had an issue like this before. Both were "wired" via (CAT 5e) cables. The three PC's that were connected via wi-fi were not affected. We switched CAT 5e cables several times with not changed in status. The wired printer and PC were assigned arbitrary ip addresses in the 16X.XXX etc. range. I think that has to do with not being able to communicate with the DHCP server? However, we connected one of the laptops via a CAT 5e cable directly to the router, and it too was assigned an arbitrary ip address. I finally reverted to my old router (LINKSYS WRT160N), and the issue went away. Is this a known E4200v2 issue? Is there a fix or workaround for this? The "wired" PC and two laptops are Windows 7, and the all-in-one is running Vista.I can continue using my WRT16N. But hate to think I wasted good money on this new dual band. Have never had any issues before with Linksy/Cisco before.
