Cisco WAN :: Assigning Secondary IP To Dialer Created On 897 Router

Sep 7, 2012

We have a dsl connection on 897 dsl router at the customers HO.The telephone line is directly connected to router we configured dialer with username and password and it takes a static ip of 212.249.213.xxx.Now he has some branches that are connected through wireless links and he has arranged for a subnet of 8 public IP's in the range 72.70.245.xxx

 Can we some how use these public ip's as secondary in the routers dialer interface and assign to the servers in the branches so that it can be accessed through web.

Cisco WAN :: 3825 Bring Up Dialer If ISP Interface On Mated Router Goes Down?

Dec 6, 2012

I have two 3825's. Each has it's own ISP connection. Nat is configued for both. They have an ethernet connection between them and I'm running OSPF between the two so the routes propogate. I have qty 11 Dialer interfaces configured on each router (each router has an exact copy of the other routers dialer interface). However, I only want the Dialers up if the ISP connection on the mated router goes down. Much like HSRP I need one to preempt and be active if both ISP connections are up. When one goes down the other Dialers must come up. Each dialer sends a Dynamic DNS host name and IP address pair to DynDNS.org. So I cannot have both up otherwise the DNS names will bounce between ISP#1's IP address and ISP#2's IP address (back and forth). Let me know if any option exists to make this happen. As an aside the ISP's are providing me DHCP addresses so I cannot work off of an IP, it has to be the physical interface (i.e. Gi0/0).

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 880 (887) - Router Not Assigning IP Address

Jan 22, 2012

I'm fairly new to Cisco configuration and I am looking at a problem for a client that involves the use of a Cisco 887 (wired only) as the main router/gateway. The problem I am investigating involves the allocatoni of DHCP addresses from the device to a product we have designed that connects to the router. I am attempting to set the 880 up on the bench with no ADSL connection and just use the DHCP feature of the box for the 4 switch ports on the back. I have tried all kinds of configurations from default.  Whatever I do I can't get the router to assign an IP address to anything that is plugged in (Windows or Linux machines).  What could I be doing wrong ?  It can't be that difficult to get the system to just act as a DHCP server.

Wifi Router Not Assigning Ip Address Or Default Gateway?

Oct 25, 2012

hrome threw me a DNS lookup failed. I go into my network settings and I noticed that I had limited connectivity. It would switch between no network access and no internet access every few seconds. After a bit of fiddling around, I got it to connect through assigning myself a static IP. This isn't exactly convenient because I use this computer on multiple networks. When I try to have it on automatic IP, I get no IP address or default gateway when I do an ipconfig /all. It would appear that my router quit assigning my laptop an IP for no reason whatsoever. DHCP is enabled on the router, and all other devices work fine. What could possibly be the problem here? I'm 99% sure it's not an IP conflict either. It's not being MAC filtered because I'm on the thing right now posting this through a static IP. It's not my A/V because it's worked great in the past. Perhaps I should also mention it occasionally says "unidentified network" instead of the SSID

Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT110 Not Assigning IPs Properly

Jul 2, 2011

The WRT110 is hooked up to Cable through Comcast and works fine with LAN connections. The problem comes in with more than one wireless laptop tries to connect. First, it was loaded with 1.0.4 firmware and my girlfriend's XP laptop would connect but drop the connection a lot. My Windows 7 laptop wouldn't connect at all. After trying everything someone recommended upgrading the firmware to 1.0.7. Well, now my Windows 7 laptop connects but the XP laptop will not. The DHCP won't assign it an IP, although it says it's connected.

E4200v2 Router Assigning Arbitrary Ip Addresses To Wired Peripherals?

Feb 13, 2012

problem I have encountered with a Cisco E4200v2 router (with current firmware update) which is just over three months old. The other day my internet connection (cable "always on") hiccuped a couple of time (which is not unusual for this area). However, when the service finally restored itself, I lost a PC and printer from my home network, and the ability to connect to the internet with the wired PC. Outages like this are normal in this area and have not had an issue like this before. Both were "wired" via (CAT 5e) cables. The three PC's that were connected via wi-fi were not affected. We switched CAT 5e cables several times with not changed in status. The wired printer and PC were assigned arbitrary ip addresses in the 16X.XXX etc. range. I think that has to do with not being able to communicate with the DHCP server? However, we connected one of the laptops via a CAT 5e cable directly to the router, and it too was assigned an arbitrary ip address. I finally reverted to my old router (LINKSYS WRT160N), and the issue went away. Is this a known E4200v2 issue? Is there a fix or workaround for this? The "wired" PC and two laptops are Windows 7, and the all-in-one is running Vista.I can continue using my WRT16N. But hate to think I wasted good money on this new dual band. Have never had any issues before with Linksy/Cisco before.

Cisco WAN :: 837 - Replace Dialer 1 Interface With IRB?

Jun 21, 2011

I have an 837 ADSL router that the customer is upgrading from a 3 meg circuit to a 10 meg circuit.

The previous vendor used PPOE for connection and we used a dialer 1 interface to make the connection with a user name and password.

The new connection is a straight WAN DHCP no username or password needed.

I realize I can change the dialer interface from negotiate to DHCP but do I still need it ?

Can I replace the dialer 1 interface  with IRB ? Should i just keep the Dialer 1 interface since the device is currently set that way and just remove the PPP negotiation from dialer 1 ?

Make Secondary Router As Primary?

Apr 25, 2011

I have been having problems when trying to host servers on games, etc.I have 2 routers. A modem router, which is a Thomson router. That is the main one. It has a wire connecting from it, to a D-Link router that is near my Computer, and my brother's one. Then that D-Link router has 2 wires from each port, to mine, and my brother's computer.So, I am trying to host games.I didn't connect to the Thomson one, which is also wireless. I am connected to the wired one (D-Link). When I try to host while connected to it, my brother, and other people can't find the server. My brother and me can find it on LAN, but not Internet.But when I disconnect from the Wired, and connect to the Thomson wireless one, and then when I host, I can find it on INTERNET. Even my brother can. He can connect to it perfectly.

I do not want to connect to the wireless, because then it will cause lag spikes every 5 minutes.So, when I disconnect from the wireless, and connect to the wire, I went into the CMD, and typed in ipconfig. I found out that the Default Gteway is the D-Link IP.When I connect to the wireless, and disconnect the wired, I went into CMD, and then the Default Gateway is the Thomson one, which is the main router.So what I want to do, is use the D-Link router, and that router will have the same IP as my thomson one, so that I can host perfectly with no lag spikes, and using a wired connection.

Backup Internet Access Through Secondary Router?

Jan 30, 2013

I have two routers on my local network:

1. ADSL Wi-Fi router provided by my ISP. This is the primary router for my network which is connected to the internet. Router IP: 192.168.1.1 (DHCP enabled)

2. TP-Link wireless router which is connected to the primary router through its LAN port (not WAN) with its DHCP turned off. So I'm using this router ONLY to extend the network to another area. This is a 3G enabled router. Router IP: 192.168.1.2

There are two different wireless SSIDs but basically only ONE network (all the PCs connected through any of the two routers are on the same subnet and have same IP range i.e. 192.168.1.x). I want to use the 3G internet connection through the secondary router when the ADSL connection is down. Whenever the ADSL connection is down, I would just connect the 3G-USB to the secondary router, all the computers on the network should connect to the internet while skipping their route through the primary router WITHOUT CHANGING ANY SETTINGS. Is it possible? Do I need to modify the routing tables? Or is it possible by configuring the DHCP server to assign the primary DNS address as 192.168.1.1 and secondary DNS address as 192.168.1.2?

DIR-655 - Secondary DNS Server Blank In Router Info

Jul 14, 2011

I looked on my ISP's website and they have "121.98.0.2" listed as the Secondary Name Server/DNS:

Why does the router not report that? Is there something wrong? Should I still set 121.98.0.2 as the Alternate DNS Server in Windows?

EDIT: BTW, my modem reports both primary and secondary DNS servers on it's info page.

Cisco WAN :: 877 / Setup A PPP Dialer To Present Empty Credentials?

Sep 7, 2011

I am trying to copy a setup from a Nortel IAX100 where the carrier provides two ATM PVC's over ADSL - one for voice (VoIP) and one for data (IP). Relevant lines from the backup of the IAX's configuration include the following for the PPP authentication over the voice circuit:

<wan_8_32>
<entry1 vccId="1" conId="1" name="Voice" protocol="PPPOE" encap="LLC" firewall="enable" nat="enable" igmp="disable" vlanId="-1" service="enable" instanceId="1509949441"/>
</wan_8_32>
<pppsrv_8_32>
<ppp_conId1 userName="" password="" serviceName="" idleTimeout="0" ipExt="disable" auth="auto" useStaticIpAddr="0" localIpAddr="255.255.255.255" />
</pppsrv_8_32>

The null username and password for the PPP connection have me a bit stumped.  Does the PPP connection not use any authenetication at all?  (Is that possible/likely? How could I deubg it?)  Or does does the IAX100 supply a chap/pap response with null credentails?  (If so, how would I duplicate that using an instruction to a dialer interface?I am configuring an 877 with 12.4T and advanced IP services.
