I have read how to configure the Virtual Servers - Forwarding url...and added two entries, one for port 44612 and one for 32680 , my pc ip is 192.168.0. 100.Before I installed the router (my pc was connected directly to the lan connection) all was working just fine.And I double checked that the ports are not being blocked by firewall.

I have a machine called 'survtest' on my lan with a permanent ip addr of 192.168.0.112. I can't ping that host by name from any other machine on the lan, although I can ping the ip address. Not only that but this machine appears in the DHCP client list within the router with its name 'survtest' and correct IP addr.
There is another machine on the lan called 'bsd' that also has a permanent IP addr of 192.168.0.110. It can be pinged by name from any other machine on the lan. However it does not show up in the DHCP client list at all.
Neither of these machines can be pinged by name from within the tplink admin diagnostic screen.

I have a WR842ND with firmware 3.12.22 Build 120424 Rel.39632n. I can't seem to get the mail log emailed out. I've tried hotmail, gmail and ISP email ids. I know these will work as I've done it with my NAS and other routers. When I'm in the System Tools/System Logs/Mail Settings I have authentication enabled and I know I've put in the proper information including mail server outgoing mail names EG. smtp.live.com for hotmail.
I don't see any place to identify a non standard port IE. not port 25, to use. So when I try to send I get the Userid or password is wrong message. Do I have to configure something else.

I bought TL-WR1042ND and I have problem. After 2 hours, the router loses all connections. Lights that everything is OK, but he can not connect to any site on the Internet or LAN. Even nor to 192.168.0.1 Only search for the host.

I had it all working fine, then I wanted to upgrade the firmware. The original firmware was 3-14-4. I downloaded and applied the 3-15-4 firmware. Now when it powers on the power light is on all the time. Immediately the sys, 4, 3, 2, 1, Internet, usb and wps lights flash once. Then about 5 seconds later the 4, 3, 2, 1 & Internet lights flash once, then a second later the cycle starts again. When I connect it to the PC it starts to make a connection on the NIC, but then the router resets. Model: TL-WR1042ND, Ver 1.3 . Is there a way to reset the firmware or get it working again?

I'm having the problem to playback video files from Media Server on Samsung TV.And i found out the problem, that media server showing video files without extensions as avi or mp4.Windows Player somehow recognize video codec and container without extensions, but Samsung TV doesn't.

When can we have an upgrade to include 'Lookback' function for Virtual Server ? I understand both Build-120802 and Build-120926 does not support this Loopback feature. Without the loopback feature, we won't be able to test out Dynamic DNS URL is working or otherwise on local PC.

I just bought this to replace a working Linksys but wanted gigabit so after reading a lot of reviews this is the one I picked up. So tell me what is the magic toggle to get port forwarding to work or virtual servers? I've configured them on Linksys, netgear, Cisco, etc 100 times with no problems. Nothing I configure on this confounded thing works. I've setup 6 port forwards, RDP, FTP, VNC and none of them work. Nothing. "Connection timed out" when trying to connect. This works on my other router just fine so its not my software, or my PC configuration as they have no changed. Ports are correct.

I'm transitioning my router setup for a Tomato/MLPPP router to the DIR-825 and I'm a little confused on when you would use "Virtual Servers" and when you would use Port Forwarding? In the past, I've always relied on port forwarding to allow access to specific services on my LAN (ie. VPN, Apple Remote Desktop, etc.), so again, unsure what the Virtual Servers is used for?From what I can tell, Virtual Servers is for services that require a single port for communication (ie. a basic SSH setup on port 22) while Port Forwarding allows for the setup of services that require multiple ports (ie. VPN on ports 500 [UDP], 1701 [UDP], 1723 [TCP] and 4500 [UDP]). Is that the differences between the two configuration pages? It just seems odd to me to have two separate windows for just this difference? If that's the case, is there any reason I couldn't just use port forwarding, even for services that only require a single port (just to keep everything on the same configuration page, under Port Forwarding)?

I am about to go out an buy another WNR200 because vpn works flawlessly on that router. I have 2 virtual servers set up, one for port 1723, the other for port 47(GRE). All the ALG check boxes are checked(I have tried them both ways, when they are un checked and I use port forwarding i get vpn error 800). I have tried with SPI enabled and disabled. No port forwarding set up for vpn just the virtual servers. Firmware is 1.34NA, 2010/04/16.

We need to configure the AP in such a way, only 1 antenna to be used & not other two, to meet some mounting requirements/limitations. Will I be able to do this using any test/debug commands?
Essentially I want this AP to be operating in 1x1 spatial stream, & with no antenna diversity, so that I can connect only 1 antenna & be deterministic about AP using only connected Antenna RF port & not others
With out configuring anything, when I connect only 1 Antenna, I observed that signal is fluctuating on Client Application & causing the applications traffic stream disconnect.

I'am a user of perfect-privacy.com (who provide VPN access for safe internet usage) and want to force the users of my internet connection to use perfect-privacy. On my old router i only allow access to the domain *.perfect-privacy.com and deny all other domains. To surf the web it was nessesary to connect via VPN (example server: moscow.perfect-privacy.com) to surf the web.
I've tested the Parental Control, but when i have activated it, i can access perfect-privacy.com, but i can't open a VPN connection to a Perfect Privacy server. Is there any way to configure Parental Control to allow VPN connections, or realize me needs in another way?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have one dedicated IP issued to my home, along with another dynamic one if I need it(but I don't use it). I have a webserver, mail server, and name server up and running on a single machine exposed to the internet with my static IP. I have a domain name registered to my IP address. My webserver and name server work great, but I am having difficulty with the mail server. In order to have mail work correctly, I have been told that I need to get reverse DNS setup for my domain (something I had neglected to do). My nameserver responds to reverse lookups correctly when issued locally, but it looks like queries from the internet never reach it (I think my ISP catches requests upstream). I contacted them and they put a PTR record in for my IP pointing to ns1.mydomain.com. This all works fine, but the thought occurred to me that if in my hosts file I put my MX record in as mail.mydomain.com., any mail clients that do a reverse lookup of my IP won't get mail.

I am trying to set up port forwarding on this router but it seems I need to use virtual servers but in all the guides there is a menu for this under the advance settings nat menu.I do not have that option, I have downloaded the latest firmware but still nothing.
I have DIR-601 wireless router with two computers connected: Server (192.168.1.2) and Client (192.168.1.3 on Ethernet Port and 192.168.1.4 on Wireless)
I also use dlinkddns.com and my router's public IP is mapped as abc.dlinkddns.com.
In the router Virtual Server section, it is configured as:
Public Port: 3389 (for Remote Desktop)
Private Port: 3389
IP Address: 192.168.1.2 (server's IP)
I am expecting this to allow the client to access the server via windows Remote Desktop.
The current situation is:
- When wireless is on, the client can access the server's Remote Desktop
- When wireless is off and client is connected by wired Ethernet, the client cannot connect to the server's remote desktop. After timeout, the error msg is "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: ...".
- When the client is in another network, it can connect to the server through the Internet.
I am sure it's not the client's problem because it can access via wireless or remotely from another network. It's not the router's virtual server config problem for the same reasons. Will it be a bug in the router? (hardware version: B1, firmware version: 2.00NA).

I set up my router and it does not get a WAN IP.The PPPoE user/pw ist 100% correct but in the "status field" it always says: "connecting" and i can't get an IP.The router is connected with the modem via RJ45 cabel that was in the box.My PC has no problem getting to the internet with direct modem communication (pppoe).

Just purchased the WR940N to use as a wireless bridge. I expected to be able to have the router join my wireless network, and provide Ethernet connectivity to 4 devices behind it. But I'm missing something in the configuration. I can get it on the wireless network, and manage it via the wireless network. But devices plugged into the Ethernet cannot get out to the Internet. Basically, I have a 192.168.1.x network, and the router is node 192.168.1.3 on the wireless network. I've turned off the firewall and DHCP on the router. The Ethernet devices behind it get an address from my network, but the router inserts its own address in as the default gateway, and my Ethernet devices do not have a route to my 192.168.1.x network, despite having an address on it.

I could connect my laptop to internet using the router but the problem is whenever I try to connect my phone to the wireless network, it goes on and off. It'll be on for a few minutes and then it is off and so on. By the way, the phone says you're still connected to the router but actually there is no real internet connection.
