Aug 6, 2012I have one dedicated IP issued to my home, along with another dynamic one if I need it(but I don't use it). I have a webserver, mail server, and name server up and running on a single machine exposed to the internet with my static IP. I have a domain name registered to my IP address. My webserver and name server work great, but I am having difficulty with the mail server. In order to have mail work correctly, I have been told that I need to get reverse DNS setup for my domain (something I had neglected to do). My nameserver responds to reverse lookups correctly when issued locally, but it looks like queries from the internet never reach it (I think my ISP catches requests upstream). I contacted them and they put a PTR record in for my IP pointing to ns1.mydomain.com. This all works fine, but the thought occurred to me that if in my hosts file I put my MX record in as mail.mydomain.com., any mail clients that do a reverse lookup of my IP won't get mail.

Mar 5, 2013I just bought this to replace a working Linksys but wanted gigabit so after reading a lot of reviews this is the one I picked up. So tell me what is the magic toggle to get port forwarding to work or virtual servers? I've configured them on Linksys, netgear, Cisco, etc 100 times with no problems. Nothing I configure on this confounded thing works. I've setup 6 port forwards, RDP, FTP, VNC and none of them work. Nothing. "Connection timed out" when trying to connect. This works on my other router just fine so its not my software, or my PC configuration as they have no changed. Ports are correct.

I'm transitioning my router setup for a Tomato/MLPPP router to the DIR-825 and I'm a little confused on when you would use "Virtual Servers" and when you would use Port Forwarding? In the past, I've always relied on port forwarding to allow access to specific services on my LAN (ie. VPN, Apple Remote Desktop, etc.), so again, unsure what the Virtual Servers is used for?From what I can tell, Virtual Servers is for services that require a single port for communication (ie. a basic SSH setup on port 22) while Port Forwarding allows for the setup of services that require multiple ports (ie. VPN on ports 500 [UDP], 1701 [UDP], 1723 [TCP] and 4500 [UDP]). Is that the differences between the two configuration pages? It just seems odd to me to have two separate windows for just this difference? If that's the case, is there any reason I couldn't just use port forwarding, even for services that only require a single port (just to keep everything on the same configuration page, under Port Forwarding)?

Jul 16, 2011I have seemingly tried everything! I am still getting vpn error 720 using windows client trying to connect to vpn server using PPTP. I am about to go out an buy another WNR200 because vpn works flawlessly on that router. I have 2 virtual servers set up, one for port 1723, the other for port 47(GRE). All the ALG check boxes are checked(I have tried them both ways, when they are un checked and I use port forwarding i get vpn error 800). I have tried with SPI enabled and disabled. No port forwarding set up for vpn just the virtual servers. Firmware is 1.34NA, 2010/04/16.

2510G Switches Sharing Single 1Gb Line To Servers But Internet Slow
Oct 13, 2011About a week ago I changed over 9 HP Procurve switches that were previously stacking in series (yeah, daisy-chain) to a Access-Distribution type scenario with 2 (or 4 on server switches) Gb ports on each switch Trunked together connecting to a central full 48x Gb switch.
During this I updated firmwares on all the switches (most still on their shipped 5-8 year old versions) to the latest stable release (and in the process found out that HP switch firmware is absolutely brutal and untested - See ProCurve 2510G FW 11.16 as an example) .
I saw vast improvements across the network immediately after the change (wow, really? 9 48-port switches effectively sharing a single 1Gb line to the servers and internet was a bit slow? Don't tell my co-workers, they don't think that's possible ) .
The only thing that I didn't see an improvement in was on some Linux and BSD servers, which would top out at 11MB/s doing a SMB (SAMBA) transfer. These are managed systems part of our business system, but we still need to be able to pull local backups for ourselves. So I contacted our vendor. The vendor confirmed that the line speed is showing as 1000T-FDx (same as the switch is showing).
Vendor is now claiming that after these changes were put in place, the speed on their servers (and their servers ONLY) was reduced to a maximum of 5MB/s (~60Mb/s?) doing rsync transfers between themselves. And they are all on the same 2510 (48 port all 10/100/1000), which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever to me. Furthermore this is on the ONLY switch on the entire network that had an updated firmware already installed - that's not even a possibility here.
I put some windows servers on that switch and can get 60MB/s+ all day (SMB transfers). I've also tried from their one server that I can access to doing an rsync or scp to another BSD box, and max out at 15MB/s (with 100% CPU usage on the test box - I'm assuming the decryption is pretty heavy?)There is absolutely no QoS, limiting, or any possibility of throttling the links the servers are on the switch. There are no excessive broadcasts saturating it, and the ports and cables test fine.

I have applied access list on cisco switch to restrict communication between vlan 10 and vlan 20.But My main purpose to create two Vlan is not for any kind of communication or restriction. My main Purpose is that Users traffic do not distrub or choke or affect the Database servers. then what will i need to do for that is VLAN Concept is sufficient for my concern OR I will need to buy seperate Cisco Switch to connect 5 database servers OR Else ?

-Single static public IP: 16.2.3.4
-Need to PAT several ports to three separate servers behind firewall
-One server houses email, pptp server, ftp server and web services: 10.1.20.91
-One server houses drac management (port 445): 10.1.20.92
-One server is the IP phone server using a range of ports: 10.1.20.156
Basically, need to PAT the ports associated with each server to the respective servers behind the ASA 5505. Is anything missing from this config? Do I need to include a global policy for PPTP and SMTP? [code]
Cisco Firewall :: Mask DMZ Servers From Private Servers And LAN ASA 5520
Jun 11, 2013We are planning to split the Private servers from the DMZ Servers and configure an additional Interface and segment for this purpose.
Private Servers Segment: 192.168.4.0/24 (there is no DHCP all servers' IPs are statically configured)
DMZ Segment: 192.168.3.0/24 (This is a future deployment)
LAN Segment: 172.17.0.0/16
Both, Private Servers and DMZ Servers are in a collocation as well as the ASA5520. There are multiple Branch offices that uses subnets within the 172.17.0.0/16 Network and they are connected to the ASA5520 via Metro-E.
I do not know if this is possible but what I want to do is this:
In order to avoid the change of internal DNS records I want to mask the DMZ servers with a Private Server IP when a Private server or LAN host wants to access it like this:
The FTP server in the DMZ has the IP address: 192.168.3.100. But when a PC from the LAN wants to reach the FTP server it should points to its old IP: 192.168.4.100. This way the PC sends a packet to the ftp.corporate.net (192.168.4.100) the ASA recieves the packet and translate it to the (192.168.3.100) and send it out through the DMZ Interface.
Also if the Private Servers wants to reach the same FTP the ASA will act like a proxy-ARP and send the paquet to the DMZ by means of the translation of the IP.

Feb 7, 2012I have a PC behind a DSL router. In my PC (WinXP SP3) I have a virtual machine also running WinXP SP3. I would like to access the VM via remote desktop. Since I have a dynamic IP, I use the(url)tool to solve the problem. I installed the no-ip sync tool in the VM. Now when I write my no-ip address in the remote desktop from my office, I will access my host system, and not the hosted VM. Aug 10, 2012Sometime in the past month my virtual server has been serving slow speeds to a majority of places when I used to get 500KB/s + speeds down and 250KB/s speeds up regularly. My home network is Verizon Fios 15/5 and speedtest.net reports exactly those speeds at any test server I choose.
I've been going back and forth with my virtual server host (1and1) about my virtual server download and upload speeds. I've done a lot of testing to see if there is packet loss with WinMRT and also traceroutes from a couple locations.1and1 has done testing and verified it's NOT their network causing the slow downs as their download tests have returned fast speeds. I've tested at about 8 locations to download this file ( [URL] I can assure you that link is safe, it's just a zip of the .Net 4 redist pacakge) and 6 out of the 7 get speeds ranging from 10kb/s-50kb/s, only 1 out of the 7 gets 400kb/s+ download speeds and that is located in Chicago, 4 are from Los Angeles area and 2 from Denver area and one from Orlando area.
Is it possible to get some users (Preferably West Coast USA) here to download and report the speed it downloads, location they are at, and the internet provider and package they have? If I cannot find the cause of this, I may have to move to a different virtual server provider which takes a lot of configuration for my server because of the nature of it

Feb 2, 2011Running a Windows 7 laptop plugged into a LAN using ethernet cable with internet.The built-in wireless nic on the laptop connects to a totally different internet network. I set up an XP Mode Virtual PC on the laptop with the intention that it would use the wireless internet connection.I set this up by installing Microsoft Loopback Adapter, then sharing the wireless nic to it. The Virtual PC is set to use the Microsoft Loopback Adapter as its network connection.My problem is that only the hard wired internet connection works.The wireless is connected and has an ip address, however no traffic flows through it until i either disable the cabled network or physcially unplug the cable. Is it possible to have my host laptop use the cabled internet connection and my virtual pc use the 2nd wireless internet?
