View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I have a Westell 7500 Modem/Router with Century Link DSL. I've been running a couple of laptops and my wifi enabled TV on the wireless. A few days ago I got a new desktop PC (Windows 7) and plugged the ethernet cable into it. Everything was great but the wireless was a bit slow for the TV so I plugged that in with an ethernet cable too. No problems for a few days. Today, we had a power blip and everything reset and I noticed that the internet light on the modem was solid red and I couldn't access the internet on any machine (ethernet or wifi). I called the ISP who said there was an outage in the area. A few hours later, solid green light on the modem BUT the TV (ethernet connected), my iphone, and my laptops could NOT connect, despite the network showing up with a full signal. Oddly, my new PC, connected via ethernet was fine so I played some Diablo (side note). Here's the deal: the new PC connects just fine but nothing else will. If I unplug the ethernet cable to the PC or disable the LAN connection, the red internet light appears on the modem. It seems as though the PC has hijacked the modem in some way. Even the TV won't connect with the ethernet cable. The only way the internet works now is if the modem is connected to the new PC. I've done all the resents - unplugged the modem and let it sit for 10-15 minutes, accessed the router settings, etc etc. Why would this start happening now after everything was working well for several days and how do I fix it? I need the wifi connection! Update: Plugged my Macbook Pro into the ethernet cable (took it out of new PC) and it works.

So we set up our wireless network like we should but for some reason my desktop computer won't stay connected to the new wireless network. View 2 Replies View RelatedRecently my laptop, which is successfully connected to the wireless network, has failed to recognize shared folders on my desktop and the external hard drive connected to it. Laptop running 7, desktop running XP Pro. 2 days ago it was working fine. Yesterday it stopped working. I have made no changes that I can think of. All of the folders on the desktop and external drive that I want shared are set up for sharing. So, my question is, what do I need to do to again be able to read and write to these folders, especially the ones on the external hard drive. I believe the adjustment has to be made on the desktop, either in the network connections or the file sharing, but the laptop may need adjusted as well.

I have Windows 7 64 bit.I bought a Netgear DGN2000 approximately two years ago. It is working well.Currently, there is good connectivity between my laptop and the modem/router (wired and wireless).I worked on my desktop this morning, uninstalled some programmed, but must have uninstalled a driver or something.I inserted the Resource CD, which installs the modem (although it is installed). Then it stalls at some point. If I troubleshoot, it states “Windows do not detect a properly installed network adaptor.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo i'm trying to set up remote desktop connection for my desktop at (xp pro, sp2).
I've went through all the steps:
- allowed users to connect remotely (system properties)
- added to firewall exceptions
- opened up port 3389
I've disabled firewall and virus protection for now as well to test.
It works fine when I try connecting from my laptop at home by opening up the remote desktop program, and entering the local static ip address that i've configured on the desktop (i.e. 192.168.x.x);
however, when I try to connect outside of this network (on the road or office), I can't seem to connect (yes, I replaced the ip 192.168.x.x with the public ip of the desktop which I got from whatsmyip.org). I also can't ping the public ip of the desktop (can only ping the 192.168.x.x ip of the desktop)
Again, router port is open to port 3389, firewall is turned off on both the desktop and laptop, and virus protection is off.

2) The remote computer is turned off
3)The remote computer is not available on the network
Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled."

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been happily using a desktop PC wired into a router (using an ethernet cable) as well as a laptop that connects wirelessly to the router. This setup has been working fine since I started with it a few weeks ago.
On Friday evening the desktop PC stopped being able to connect to the internet and hasn't been working since. The laptop is able to connect fine wirelessly.
The router light seems to indicate that the ethernet connection is ok. I've tried connecting wirelessly from the desktop PC but that doesn't work either - the Netgear wireless usb adaptor won't open from within Windows as it usually would do.
Nothing has changed to the hardware setup (I've checked all connections) so I wonder if this is a software problem caused by a virus or maybe by Windows updates?
Attempts to run remote desktop client a laptop on a tower using a CAT 5 Crossover isn't working. After starting the remote desktop on the laptop, I'm asked to identify the other computer, which I do, and a remote desktop window with a black background pops up, as expected. But I expect an opportunity to login will be displayed after a second or so. That never happens. After about a minute this pops up:Remote Desktop Disconnected?Your Remote Desktop session has ended. The connection to the remote computer was lost, possibly due to network connectivity problems. Try connecting to the remote computer again. If the problem continues, contact your network administrator or technical support.
My clients are impressed with my ability to setup their networks, Linksys routers with WIFI. But toss something unfamiliar into the mix, like this situation, and I'm pretty lost, pretty quick.
Environment:
Hospital's WIFI.
Laptop running XP Home with WIFI and Ethernet.
Tower running Win 7 Ultra with Ethernet.
Cat 5 crossover cable.
Goal:Configure laptop to access Hospital's WIFI. This is successful, I'm using it to post this. Configure laptop run a remote desktop with the tower as the server. The tower, running Win 7, has no monitor. I don't have a flat screen monitor, and didn't feel like dragging an 80 pound 24 inch Nokia into the hospital. After reading some sites while trying to figure this out, I gave the laptop the same group name, workgroup, as the tower. In my experience, starting the tower has been, turn it on, and it boots to Win 7. But I can't watch that happen without a monitor. I can't configure the the tower's network connections without a monitor either.I purchased the CAT 5 crossover cable yesterday, for this occasion. The label on the plastic bag it was packaged in had the word "Crossover" on it. I connect the CAT 5 to the laptop's single ethernet connection, and to the tower's Intel pro card. At home the laptop is on WIFI, the tower connects to the router.
recently my network adapter just stopped working. The wifi signal was really bad so i unplugged it and when i plugged it back in it doesnt even turn on. I've reinstalled the drivers and still it doesn't turn on. In device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to it and when i click on properties it says code 10. I used it on my laptop and it turns on but when i plug it in my desktop it doesn't seem to turn on.

I am trying to get my parents Kindle Fire to work. They recently purchased a Motorola Modem/Router which is hooked into the desktop and works fine. I want to get their new kindle to work and can not seem to figure it out. Their operating system is Vista which I can upgrade to Windows 7 if that would make it easier. When I click on setup the WiFi part of the installation wizard cd that came with the Motorola it says there is not a network adapter. I know what that is however I do not know why I would need it when the desktop is hooked directly into modem/router and I just need the WiFi for Kindle.

It can pick up the Wireless connection from the router but I can't get it to go online even wirelessly (although I am not sure if I'm doing that part right). I called my ISP and they reset the modem, etc as well as bypassing the router and we still cannot connect to the web. We looked at the Network Center and made sure that in the Local Area Connection, the Internet Protocol Version properties all have "Obtain address" and "Obtain DNS server" automatically checked. At that point their tech support was stumped.
