Unable To Print From Internet
Oct 18, 2011
have a laptop running windows 7 and has previously been printing via a wireless network through a PC running Vista (The printer is installed on this PC and works fine printing from this machine) The network was set up by my father in law who passed away a few months ago...She was able to previously print from the internet on the printer but now cannot..However, she said she is still able to print Word docs on this printer..Her computer shows the printer as her default printer and sharing is on..I noticed the printer says it's "offline" though, even though it isn't.

I have been having trouble printing from my laptop computer and desktop computer. I have installed and reinstalled the print drivers on both computers. Although odd, after removing the printer from printers and devices, it always reappears and has an exclamation mark on it. I have reset the home network router, the print server, and restarted multifunction printer devices several times. On occasion, after resetting the network, the printer will print something that was backlogged in my print que many sessions ago. To get a better picture of my current network, it's current set up is as follows: My home wireless router is a Dlink- DIR -655. I have the laptop and desktop connected to the wireless router via ethernet cable. The print server is a Dlink dpr-1260, connected to the printer via usb. The print server is connected to the wireless router via ethernet cable. The desktop is running windows vista and the laptop is running windows 7. I am able to successfully login to the print server through my network at its IP address. From there I run the print wizard and successfully download and install the print drivers. I click yes to confirm print test page. Soon thereafter, a message pops up saying "This program may not have installed correctly."
I am beginning to lose patience as this has been an ongoing problem for a few months now. I do not know where to begin or what to replace. It seems as though when I attempt to install or reconfigure a computer from the network, the printer and associated devices begin having issues. So once again I am running laptop windows 7 with service pack 1 64-bit; windows vista desktop; DIR-655; DPR-1260; and Brother MFC-8440.Everything is connected via ethernet. I am running avg antivirus software and comodo firewall on both computers.

I'm trying to print from the desktop to a HP deskjet 6940 and when I do, I get the message, "Print to File" I copied a file earlier from one folder to another from the desktop. Would that cause the problem?

There would appear to be a general problem with printing from a wireless laptop, judging by the number I've come across in the search for a solution to my particular problem. My Set-up is:BT Home-Hub (up to 8 MBs Broadband DSL connection with outputs of two ethernet ports and Wifi, telephone and USB
- port 1 connected to Vista PC
- port 2 connected to 8 port Netgear switch.
Netgear switch.
- port 1 input from BT Home Hub
- port 2 connected to TV
- port 3 connected to NAS
- port 4 connected to Samsung CLP 620 ND colour laser
- port 5 connected to this desktop PC (Win 7/64bit)
- ports 5 to 8 as yet unused.
Other PCs
- desktop running XP SP3 connects through WiFi
- old Toshiba laptop running XP SP 3 connects through WiFi
- new HP laptop running Win 7 SP 1 connects through WiFi
- Acer laptop running Win 7 SP1 connects through WiFi.(WiFi computers not necessarily connected all at the same time)
The issue. This desktop can print via the network..All XP pcs/laptops see the printer on the network and can print..The Win 7 laptops see the printer on the network, but when asked to print a test page, the document gets stuck in queue until it gives the Error - printing message. If the printer is sleeping, when the test page is sent, the Samsung print dialog panel on the laptop remains showing "Printer is sleeping..." as if no commands are being sent to the printer (and therefore why nothing prints). Cancelling the document returns the printer to normal - ie the exclam mark in the yellow triangle disappears and is replaced by a tick. When the laptop is shutdown, and then restarted maybe a day later, if the printer is on, it jumps into life and prints the test page from the laptop.I should add that the laptop is also part of the HOMEGROUP and can see the printer via this PC when this PC is on - and it can print via this PC in the HOMEGROUP. Both the problem laptops have the up to date Samsung drivers although it took an age to install - it seems to get stuck on the "Detecting TCP/IP Port" page and then goes to a page headed Additional port info required. On selecting Samsung Printer, it moves on to Detecting Driver Model, gets stuck there until it moves on to the old Add Printer dialog with Manufacturers in the left pane and printers in the right.

I have between 8 and 10 computers on my home LAN. They are split between the default workgroup name 'WORKGROUP' and the name I have assigned to my home LAN.There is a mixture of Win XP, Win 7 32 & 64 and various levels of Ubuntu.
After 6 long days of trying I have made not one step forward in allowing file/printer sharing. The Windows machines are all running Comodo Internet Security, on one of which I have created my idea of a set of rules to allow file/print sharing. The Windows XP machine, with a user created set of firewall rules, can see no computers on the network (using My Network Places), aside from itself and the shares created on it.It cannot see the computers which are not in the workgroup.
The most common error message this computer generates is 'network path not found'. A win 7 32 bit computer, in the workgroup, can see all other computers that are in the workgroup, including itself, twice. It cannot access any shares on the Linux computers. It is able to access shares on the Windows XP computer.ufw Firewall is installed and enabled on one Linux machine and has a vaguely similar set of file/print sharing rules. That machine can see nothing at the Network place.A couple of hours ago it could see the machines that are NOT in my workgroup but could not see the machines that are!
Another linux computer can see the two workgroups (named and default) within the windows network, but cannot browse either workgroup. The most common error message from sharing attempts with the Linux machines is 'unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server'.Right now I am reduced to transferring USB sticks between adjacent computers....

I can get regarding using the Collobos Fingerprint software through my WRT150N router. I'm using Windows XP SP3 and immediatly after installing (which went extreamy well) it immediatly found and listed all of my home network printers. All of the wired and wireless windows based systems in my house can see and print to the printers without any problem. However, getting ANY of my apple devices (iPad, iPhone etc ) to print will not even show them as listed on the device when I select print on the devices. Collobos says that I have to make sure that Ports UDP 5353 doe Bonjour and TCP 6361 for FingerPrint need to be open both ways for it to work, I have no problem getting into the router settings and have set them up as stated above in Port Range Triggering and enabled. Also made sure Filter Multicast was not check marked in Security. Unfortunatly, that doesn't seem to work as I had hoped.

I recently upgraded my d-link router DI-524 for Netgear N600 WNDR3700v3 and every component (wired or wireless) is working except network printer. I have it wired directly to the router and all pcs on the home network can see it, however when i select to do a test print, nothing prints to the printer and i get error. I had this setup using the d-link router with both the printer and the XP PC wired directly to the router and using the XP PC as a network pc sharing the printer to other pcs (Vista / Windows 7) on the home network. The printer is a Toshiba e-studio 160 series.. I re-added the print drivers for XP and still not able to print. Is there anything else I can try?

I have two computers. One is on the East Coast of the US, the other is on the West Coast.I need to be able to "connect" these two computers for the purpose of sharing drives.I know all about Remote Desktop. This is not what I'm looking for. If I'm logged onto Computer A, I need for Computer B's disk resources to be viewable and accessible through the standard Windows Explorer as remote drives.I've already:1.unblocked TCP and UDP ports 135 through 139, and 445 in the firewall on both computers.2. completely disabled the router's firewall (one of the computers is hooked into a router; firewall has been disabled)3. forwarded the relevant ports (noted above) in the router's config to the computer I would like to access... no joy. When I try to connect to the remote PC, it comes up not found.
I can ping it, and I can connect via remote desktop (so I also know port forwarding on the router is working). But the standard "net use" and "net view" stuff is not working.I am suspecting my ISPs (on either the east coast or west coast) are filtering the "file and print sharing" ports (i.e. TCP + UDP 135 through 139 and 445), but trying to get a hold of someone at either ISP who knows about this stuff is impossible. Any experience with Comcast (West Coast) and Cablevision (East Coast), in terms of whether or not they filter traffic through these ports ?

I want to print via Windows to a static-ip hp printer over the internet. I have static-ip addressed printers and plotters that I need to print to via my laptops from various locations when i'm not in the office. I have three locations and each location has static-ip's assigned to the local printers and i need to be able to print to them. Most laptops are either Windows XP PRO or Windows 7 Home Premium. I have heard something about using port 9100 to print to them, but I don't know how that works.

Trying to connect one computer to the internet using a USB Verizon Pantech modem and at the same time connect to printer wirelessly through a Linksys router. We are able to connect to one or the other and can print when connected to the home network or we can surf when connected to the Pantech. We can connect to both networks at the same time, but when we do we can neither print or surf.. It cannot find the printer and does not access the internet at all. Is it possible to do this without buying additional hardware

I come here today with a problem that has been plaguing this laptop forever and a day. You see, about two or so years ago on this very laptop, it was just another day where I booted up my laptop and was going to get a good day of wasting time on the internet underway. I tried to open Firefox, and I got prompted to download an apparent update for the browser. Obviously I went along with it because it seemed pretty routine and identical to how Firefox had updated in the past.
After the update was all done and dusted, I found myself unable to connect to the internet through Firefox. I would just get a constant stream of "Unable to connect" messages. I thought it might have been a problem on my end since back then I had rather wishy washy internet. So I let it settle for a while. Later on that day I talked to a few of my buddies over Xbox Live and asked if they'd had any similar issues with the new Firefox update because at the time, we all used it and hadn't quite jumped ship to Chrome just yet. But no matter who I asked, I always got the same response "I didn't get any update." Which as you can imagine, confused me quite thoroughly.

I'm about ready to lose it here as I've tried to find an answer on the net and have spent way too much time with this to no avail. I have an HP L7590 printer I'm trying to hook up to my wife's computer so she can print from it. Her desktop computer and the printer are in the same room and I know I should probably just get a long usb cable and hook it up to her Vista machine when she needs to print but I've been trying to network it so she can just print easily. I have the Ethernet cable running from the printer to the Motorola SBG6580 modem. The modem is hard wired directly to her desktop and I just use my laptop wireless. I have Win7 on my laptop. I've configured all the network connections and we are sharing. Her desktop does see the printer both wirelessly and stand alone connected. I've tried to connect both ways but no joy. I've even been able to do a test print from her machine but that's all it will print for some reason. It looks as if it will run the print and it shows the printer icon in her taskbar but it won't print.

The JetDirect Box isnt't attached to a PC but directly plugged into the network. Our customer can't find the installation CD or a manual of the device. Is there a command to send text files to the printer? We have installed the Unix-Printservice and know the IP of the printer. But as we don't have a queue name, we can't use the lpr.exe command.

i have access to a network printer and everything was working fine previously until last Monday. Now when issue a print command to the printer, the printout delays until i restart the machine before it comes out. If i issue another print command, i would have to go through the same process again. This is actually slowing my work rate and its really an inconvenience.whenever the issue happens, i ping the printers IP address to see if it is actually working. I also check in a browser to see if the printer is ready and all are positive but the problem still remains. Is there a way around this problem.
