View 1 RepliesI have between 8 and 10 computers on my home LAN. They are split between the default workgroup name 'WORKGROUP' and the name I have assigned to my home LAN.There is a mixture of Win XP, Win 7 32 & 64 and various levels of Ubuntu.
After 6 long days of trying I have made not one step forward in allowing file/printer sharing. The Windows machines are all running Comodo Internet Security, on one of which I have created my idea of a set of rules to allow file/print sharing. The Windows XP machine, with a user created set of firewall rules, can see no computers on the network (using My Network Places), aside from itself and the shares created on it.It cannot see the computers which are not in the workgroup.
The most common error message this computer generates is 'network path not found'. A win 7 32 bit computer, in the workgroup, can see all other computers that are in the workgroup, including itself, twice. It cannot access any shares on the Linux computers. It is able to access shares on the Windows XP computer.ufw Firewall is installed and enabled on one Linux machine and has a vaguely similar set of file/print sharing rules. That machine can see nothing at the Network place.A couple of hours ago it could see the machines that are NOT in my workgroup but could not see the machines that are!
Another linux computer can see the two workgroups (named and default) within the windows network, but cannot browse either workgroup. The most common error message from sharing attempts with the Linux machines is 'unable to mount location. Failed to retrieve share list from server'.Right now I am reduced to transferring USB sticks between adjacent computers....
Since firmware 1.0.02, E4200 supports connect printers to USB port and print to it from Windows using CiscoConnect. Is there any way to print from Linux (using CUPS, LPD, etc)?

I have a laser printer that's connected to a desktop running Win 7. The printer is set to SHARE. I got a laptop that I want to print from through the desktop. Is this possible? The printer is not wireless and I don't have a print server. I have wireless network running on my Linksys router, but the desktop and the printer are not on it.I have the desktop and laptop on the same WORKGROUP, but when I try to add the printer on the laptop by selecting a NETWORKED PRINTER option, I get an error.

The bedroom desktop is connected to the WRT120N route and the printer is connected to the bedroom desktop. The living room desktop is connected to the WRT120N route. I can print from the bedroom desktop, but cannot figure out how to print from the living room desktop.
How can I print on the bedroom printer from the living room desktop?
I have a Vostro 460 desktop, recently bought, and then realized it would be better to add wireless router. Bought router and a PCIe wireless mini card that was suggested for my PC on Dell order site. The card arrived and am trying to install. The end plate with the aerial socket is not compatible with the removable access blanks in rear of case. Have I been sent an incorrect or unsuitable card, or is there some trick or adapting needed to install this card?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am having a problem configuring NAT for a Linux device on our network. I am far from a Cisco expert but I have configured this many times in the past for Windows machines quite easily. I do this using the Cisco ASDM 5.2 for PIC GUI. All I needed to do for the Windows machines was:-setup the static NAT rule(inside ip translated to outside ip)-create a security policy(outside, incoming rule) to allow traffic to the outside ipand hey presto it works, ie: i can ping the outside ip and access the device remotely if I have allowed correct ports.I am not sure if this is the correct method but it was how i was shown and has worked many times in the past. But with this Linux device its no dice. The Linux device isnt a desktop but a mediator for industrial air conditioning controls. It runs a web server which we can view temperatures etc... through a browser. This works inside our network by browsing to the inside ip but I am trying to set it up to work outside of our network.

Having found the network options, it seems unable to find my BTHomeHub2, although Windows 7 finds it perfectly well with 5 bars.Interestingly, the network icon in Linux only shows VPN connections and Wired connections, no wireless section. My computer is a Medion Akoya E4120 D with a Realtek RTL8191SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter. The wireless adapter is inside the PC, attached to an internal USB port I'm guessing. So all in all, how do I get my wireless internet to work with Linux Mint 10?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two linux machines(A and B) and a remote service. The service is listening on port 16000. The outgoing connection from machine A on port 16000 is blocked by a firewall, but on B it is not. I need to access the service from the A. So it will probably need to be routed(correct term?) through the B. I cannot modify the program which is accessing the service(so it will always try on port 16000).
I know there are a lot of tutorials on similar topics, but I don't know which one should I follow, because there are apparently many possibilities. I have full access to both machines. What is the best way to accomplish that? What should I execute on machine A and on machine B?

We run a 6500 with an FWSM with multiple security contexts as well as cascading contexts with a "shared V LAN" . There is a problem with regards to Linux machines and our shared network.
For example, we have three Linux machines in production, each in three separate V LAN's. For me to communicate to these boxes from one V LAN to another I must first ping the server. If I do not ping the server it will not bring up a connection like ssh or HTTP, etc. Below is the error I get from the FWSM that hosts the Linux server, but like I said once I ping the server the error goes away. We only have this problem with Linux machines, and it is a problem for all three of them. Is the FWSM having issues understanding something with all three Linux boxes? Below is the error I get at first, when I try to SSH from one V LAN to another V LAN with the Linux machine.

Deny TCP (no connection) from 10.255.12.109/22 to 10.255.1.30/63000 flags SYN ACK on interface inside.
Below is what happens when I initiate a ping to the Linux Server and then ssh again. Notice it builds the connection with no problem after the ping. During the ping it builds the dynamic translation, and then when I ssh it builds the TCP connection. Do you know why this could be?

How can i set my OpenWrt 10.03 router to not to use 192.168.1.0/24? instead, use a /32 mask, so every client, that gets an ip from the DHCP server just can't sniff the network traffic - it would be a great security feature to safely use e.g.: FTP!
