Jul 21, 2011I'm trying to set up a VPN tunnel between a Linux machine and a RVS4000 at a remote site (served via satellite connection). After many efforts, I finally succeeded (based on Openswan). However, while PINGing is OK, big packets (from the RVS4000 LAN to the Linux box) arrive corrupted.
I lowered the WAN MTU, with no success. What finally did the trick is to lower the MTU at the RVS4000 LAN interface. Since this is not possible via the Web I/F, I did it via telnet ("ifconfig eth0 mtu 1400"). However, this change is lost after router reboot. How can I make the LAN MTU setting permanent?

The webpage at https://192.168.1.1/ might be temporarily down or it may have moved permanently to a new web address. Error 113 (net::ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH): Unknown error.
In FireFox: Secure Connection Failed An error occurred during a connection to 192.168.1.1. Cannot communicate securely with peer: no common encryption algorithm(s). (Error code: ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap)
In IE9: I get no error message, the page never loads
Is it DoA or how to get connected to the web interface?

Jan 31, 2012I've downloaded the file "RV0XX-v4.1.0.02-tm.bin" from Cisco's web site. The current firmware in the RV016 router is V3. I log into the router with IE9 (or even firefox), navigate to the system management section, upgrade firmware tab. Browse to the file above and click the button to upgrade. Nothing happens for a few seconds, then the browser displays cant load this page. (Same results if I use the file "RV0XX-v4.1.1.01-sp.bin" as well.)

The side effect to this is any web browser throws me certificate errors and warns me not to continue logging in to the router's config. How do I fix this so the browser does not throw these messages?

Jan 17, 2013The Lg840g is a tracfone with wifi capability. I get strong wifi signal and connection at home, but receive failure to connect to requested host message when I open the browser. This phone works at wayport wifi, so I assume it's a compatibility problem with the router. Is there a fix? (Router works great with our Acer and Kindle tablets though.)

The hyper terminal works with other switches so the problem is not with the hyper terminal.when I tried to break the password it stuck after I was writing "flash_init" and when I entered or typed text it show only garbage characters. I tried to break the password with all the speeds and it shows garbage output. I tried to turn on the switch and hold control + break and it showed the text only with the speed 115200, but after I left holding and tried to type it showed only garbage again. Also I tried to copy text from the notepad to the hyper terminal.

This behaviour is seen on acs 5.x, whereas acs 4.2 is showing encrypted password in the reports.
I have checked debugs on Router and it is sending password in clear text in Tacacs Authorization packet but encrypted password in Tacacs Accounting logs.

If I capture those packets which made up that page using wireshark I cant find that text anywhere no matter what filter I use and even though I turn on ASCII. Is it because text is being rendered unreadable by some kind of compression?

May 14, 2012I am having a problem configuring NAT for a Linux device on our network. I am far from a Cisco expert but I have configured this many times in the past for Windows machines quite easily. I do this using the Cisco ASDM 5.2 for PIC GUI. All I needed to do for the Windows machines was:-setup the static NAT rule(inside ip translated to outside ip)-create a security policy(outside, incoming rule) to allow traffic to the outside ipand hey presto it works, ie: i can ping the outside ip and access the device remotely if I have allowed correct ports.I am not sure if this is the correct method but it was how i was shown and has worked many times in the past.But with this Linux device its no dice. The Linux device isnt a desktop but a mediator for industrial air conditioning controls. It runs a web server which we can view temperatures etc... through a browser. This works inside our network by browsing to the inside ip but I am trying to set it up to work outside of our network.

Dec 20, 2012We run a 6500 with an FWSM with multiple security contexts as well as cascading contexts with a "shared V LAN" . There is a problem with regards to Linux machines and our shared network.
For example, we have three Linux machines in production, each in three separate V LAN's. For me to communicate to these boxes from one V LAN to another I must first ping the server. If I do not ping the server it will not bring up a connection like ssh or HTTP, etc. Below is the error I get from the FWSM that hosts the Linux server, but like I said once I ping the server the error goes away. We only have this problem with Linux machines, and it is a problem for all three of them. Is the FWSM having issues understanding something with all three Linux boxes? Below is the error I get at first, when I try to SSH from one V LAN to another V LAN with the Linux machine.

Below is what happens when I initiate a ping to the Linux Server and then ssh again. Notice it builds the connection with no problem after the ping. During the ping it builds the dynamic translation, and then when I ssh it builds the TCP connection. Do you know why this could be?

Linux Server's Network Cuts-out
Sep 11, 2011My Linux Server Network cuts-out after 10 mins. It says its still connected but when i try to ping google or my laptops IP it gets a 100% loss. Also when i try accessing it via SSH/Putty for Widows 7 it wont connect.
