Can't Setup NAT For Linux Device?
May 14, 2012
I am having a problem configuring NAT for a Linux device on our network. I am far from a Cisco expert but I have configured this many times in the past for Windows machines quite easily. I do this using the Cisco ASDM 5.2 for PIC GUI. All I needed to do for the Windows machines was:-setup the static NAT rule(inside ip translated to outside ip)-create a security policy(outside, incoming rule) to allow traffic to the outside ipand hey presto it works, ie: i can ping the outside ip and access the device remotely if I have allowed correct ports.I am not sure if this is the correct method but it was how i was shown and has worked many times in the past. But with this Linux device its no dice. The Linux device isnt a desktop but a mediator for industrial air conditioning controls. It runs a web server which we can view temperatures etc... through a browser. This works inside our network by browsing to the inside ip but I am trying to set it up to work outside of our network.

I am monitoring 2 or more source interfaces which are running 1G traffic on each interface. Destination is 10G interface. There are 2 kinds of traffic running through the source interfaces: icmp and regular IP traffic. I am only interested in capturing icmp traffic. How can I achieve my goal?I don’t have any vlan traffic at all. Router is c6500.

I'm trying to set up a VPN tunnel between a Linux machine and a RVS4000 at a remote site (served via satellite connection). After many efforts, I finally succeeded (based on Openswan). However, while PINGing is OK, big packets (from the RVS4000 LAN to the Linux box) arrive corrupted.
I lowered the WAN MTU, with no success. What finally did the trick is to lower the MTU at the RVS4000 LAN interface. Since this is not possible via the Web I/F, I did it via telnet ("ifconfig eth0 mtu 1400"). However, this change is lost after router reboot. How can I make the LAN MTU setting permanent?

I've got the following problem using my DLink DSL-2740B with the latest firmware:On all my devices (Notebook, Netbook, iPhone, Set top Box, TV...) I need to manually set the IP of my internet providers DNS server or else, URL's can't be resolved. I'm pretty sure that the Router/Gateway is set up correctly as the status page of the router does show both the primary and secondary DNS servers IP addresses. Both have been automatically detected by the router. On my different devices, if I leave the DNS IP to be automatically detected, they will use the Routers IP as their DNS server IP (e.g. 192.168.1.1), which is the way it should be I'd think. However, trying to access (in browser or through ping or whatever) any URL, it just won't work. I need to manually enter the DNS's IP in the device.

I would like to use the Cisco ATA 186 as a SIP device with Cisco Call Manager 7. However, I have found that the SIP firmware for the Cisco ATA 186 is unsupported by Call Manager 7.Therefore, In order to use the ATA as a SIP device with the Call Manager, I believe I will need setup the ATA as a 3rd Party SIP device by doing the following:
1. Disable the TFTP option within the ATA, so that the SIP firmware is not overwritten by firmware from the TFTP server.
2. Install the 3.2.1 SIP firmware on the ATA, since the ATA is currently running the 3.2.4 SCCP firmware.
3. Register the ATA, as a third-party SIP device, with the Call Manager .Should I register the ATA as a 3rd party device?

I get internet through my Desktop using a wifi card that picks up the internet from my in-laws across the street (gets a really good signal btw). Anyway, that connection is perfectly fine, and up until recently I had been using a Hawking Range Extender to repeat the signal through my house connecting it to my PC's ethernet port and using the Internet Connection Sharing feature. For some reason that is beyond me it suddenly stopped working. Or rather, it will work for a couple minutes and then stop receiving packets.I'm thinking the device is faulty since it never actually worked that great to begin with. Is this type of setup possible for a wireless Router such as a lynksys device? Or would I need a repeater/range extender like I have been using?Again I would use the Wifi from my PC to share the connection with the Router to broadcast that signal through my house.

I've got a WAP610N access point and 4 WET610N to connect to it - however, no matter what I do when trying to install the WAP610N the setup tells me it cannot find the device.I've got the WAP610N connected to a homegateway (SAGEM) and my computer connected wired to the HGW. The HGW is setup as a DHCP server, everything beside the WAP610N works. It gets an IP address, and I can login to the web interface of the access point - but is still unable to use the setup and unable to connect any of the WET610N.

Steps to repeat the bug:
1) Physical Reset of SR520-FE to factory defaults
2) Run CCA 3.1(1) and connect to 192.168.75.1 using the default cisco/cisco login
3) Under the Home Menu, click the Device Setup Wizard
4) In Step 1, sellect the SR520 and observe that there is also a photograph of the SR520-FE(W) model displayed as feedback for Step 1
5) Try variations of Steps 2 through 4
Note: Step 4 has a problem because it says to plug the power into the device, but if the power was not already plugged in to begin with, we could not run the Device Setup Wizard in the first place.
6) Step 5 prompts for a user name and password.
BUG: No permutations of the documented default usernames and passwords "cisco" or "admin" work. The result is always the error dialog:Device Connectivity Status - "Failure: Not Connected.""Return to Step 1. Make sure that your PC is not connected to a network and you follow all the instructions."A search of the web indicates others are also had this unresolved issue with previous CCA releases.

My BEFSR81 is my primary router and has DHCP turned on. The router's DHCP range is set to accommodate 12 devices. I have three computers wired to it and their Host names (as specified in the set-up of each computer) show up in the router's DHCP device table. I also have two printers (one old Brother HL5250DN laser printer and one new HP Photosmart Premier C410a inkjet printer) connected and there are blanks where the Host name should go. I would like to be able to tell which printer is which when I am looking at the DHCP device table. How can I get a names associated with each printer's IP address in the router's DHCP device table? (The real problem is that the router seems to have both printers at the same IP address (192.168.1.100) and if I can get one of them to change I'd like to know which one it was!)

We are using LMS 3.2.1 with SP1 and Campus Manager 5.2.2.Server runs Windows 2003 R2.Everything runs fine except for User Tracking on two Catalyst 6500 switches running CatOS. These devices are discovered, reachable, SNMP works fine, neighbors seen. But when we try to launch acquisition, the UT utility complains with this error message:"Failed to start acquisition: Device unreachable. Please enter a valid device."When we wanted to add ports via Device Trap Configuration, LMS has fired a different error message: "There are no ports to configure for the selected device(s).Check whether you have selected any router(s)." I have checked the portsData.xml file, which doesn't have any ports included for the two devices: [code] We have tried to exclude / include the switches in the data collection, but that didn't work.

I recently installed Linux Mint 10 (Julia). Having found the network options, it seems unable to find my BTHomeHub2, although Windows 7 finds it perfectly well with 5 bars.Interestingly, the network icon in Linux only shows VPN connections and Wired connections, no wireless section. My computer is a Medion Akoya E4120 D with a Realtek RTL8191SU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 Network Adapter. The wireless adapter is inside the PC, attached to an internal USB port I'm guessing. So all in all, how do I get my wireless internet to work with Linux Mint 10?

I have two linux machines(A and B) and a remote service. The service is listening on port 16000. The outgoing connection from machine A on port 16000 is blocked by a firewall, but on B it is not. I need to access the service from the A. So it will probably need to be routed(correct term?) through the B. I cannot modify the program which is accessing the service(so it will always try on port 16000).
I know there are a lot of tutorials on similar topics, but I don't know which one should I follow, because there are apparently many possibilities. I have full access to both machines. What is the best way to accomplish that? What should I execute on machine A and on machine B?

I believe I do not have the devices configured properly on the ACS side. These 2 servers currently are using RADIUS and we are getting bit by the bug where the ACS application will start rejecting RADIUS authentication requests but still accept TACACS requests.
