I have set up a Small business server environment for a client. One server in the network, it provides both DHCP, and DNS. Joined all of the XP machine to domain no worries. Tried to join the 7 machine and I get a "DNS couldn't be resolved" error. I know DNS is functioning properly on my server.
I can't join a Windows 2008 Server from client computer running Windows Vista Business Edition. I get the message "Network path not Found" yet I can ping the server and the server can ping my computer.
I have installed the Cisco ACS 4.2 in a server running Windows 2003 Server, and this server is member server of the domain. The ACS is working whit a Wireless Platform 4400, and authenticating to the Wireless Users using PEAP and Digital Certificate. But now, the windows platform will be upgraded to Windows 2008. My doubt are the following:
1. The ACS running in a windows 2003 server, will authentificate users in the new windows 2008 domain?
2. At the beginning, the ACS and the Windows domain was 2003. Now whit the change of the version of windows domain, What happens whit the configuration of the acs server as member server? I need reconfigure the member server configuration in the ACS Server?
I have a network domain with 2 domain controllers running windows server 2008. At some point the DNS name for one of the servers got messed up and they stopped talking to each other even though they are on fixed IPs. The DNS problem has been fixed, but they haven't started communicating again. While the DNS was messed up the domain controllers kept running a different copy of the network. The DFS stopped replicating, the users lists fragmented and the network separated into two "shadow domains" with the same name. DC1 says it is healthy, but it claims DC2 is offline. DC2 claims it is healthy but DC1 is offline. I don't even know where to begin repairing this rift.
I have configured a my desktop as a domain controller with server 2008..with dns service running on it. When i tried adding another desktop to this domain, i get the following error message
"Troubleshooting network identification Error: This computer successfully resolved the Domain Name System (DNS) service (SRV) resource record required to locate a domain controller, but it failed to locate a domain controller for the Active Directory domain displayed in the error message.
Cause: The required A (address) resource records that map the name of the domain controller to its IP address do not exist in DNS.
Solution: Verify that the required A resource records do not exist in DNS by using the Nslookup command-line tool.
See also: To verify that A resource records exist in DNS. Cause: The domain controller advertised in DNS may not be connected to the network or is connected to the network but is not running.
Solution: Verify connectivity and then verify that the domain controller is running.

Is there currently any ACS version working with Windows Server 2008 R2 domain controllers? Our server stuff has recently upgraded the Domain Controllers to 2008r2 and turned off the 2003 servers. This didn't make our ACS 4.1.4 really happy.I've read now serveral posts regarding issues with ACS and Server 2008r2 and hope to find a solution (besides switching to LDAP, yukk).
I'm having issues joining a remote PC to the corporate domain. The VPN we're using is SonicWall. Here's what the error is: Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. l have a new ACS v 5.2 appliance and l´m trying to join to my domain, but l haven´t could, the acs shows me the Clock skew error, and l was checking some documents about it doesnt work. the acs have the same timezone and time that my domain, but the problem persist
I try to join an ACS v. 5.3 to the domain. For my acs in Location A, I can join without problems using my account. When I try to join the ACS in location B to the same domain with the same account, it doesnt work.I looked at the debug log files for the ad client, and noticed, that the ACS in location B goes to a certain Domain Controller. However, I would have expected the ACS to contact another DC, which is located on the same location as the ACS ... this doesnt happen.
My question: How does the ACS determine what DC to contact ? Is it possible to force the AC to join by connecting a certain DC ?

I recently got a secure token to be able to connect to my desktop at work from home. The first couple of times I connected it worked well. Now when I try to connect it works for about 4 or 5 minutes then the remote session freezes up and the window won't update. Once it freezes I no longer can connect at all to my work PC until I physically go into the office and restart the computer. Our IT dept can't even connect to the work computer once that happens.
I'm trying to think of what could be causing this to happen when it worked fine the first couple of times. It could be a coincidence but the last couple of times this has happened I think I had just opened an IE web browser on the remote work pc but that could be unrelated and I don't see why that would affect it.The only thing that I can think of that has changed is on friday I got a juniper router and a Polycom IP phone so that I could use a work phone at home over my home network, however that should have any impact and the freeze up is happening remotely not at home.
Details:
I'm using a laptop at home running Windows 7 Ultimate
I connect to my work network using a web based ssl vpn web page logging in with an Aladdin Safeword token over IE9 using Juniper terminal services client software.
My home connection consists of a cable modem which has a wireless router plugged into it.Plugged into the ethernet port on the back of the router is a broadband-over-electric adapter that runs broadband over my electric current in the house. I then have a receiving adapter for that electric adapter running ethernet from the electric outlet into the Juniper router. The only thing plugged into the juniper router is the Polycom IP phone. My laptop connects wirelessly to the wireless router.
As you can see, with this setup the addition of the Juniper router/ip phone should have no impact on me connecting to my work network over the wireless connection so it is probably a coincidence. What could be causing the remote desktop session on my work machine to crash & stop accepting connections?
Recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate, but frustratingly i cannot detect my network.
Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers so many times, got a red x next to my network connections in my start bar. Everything in device manager saying the device is running fine. I've got an Intel 82566DC -2 Gigabit Network Connection.
How to get the Virtual Passage adapter to install and the VPN to work, I keep getting the install error for the Virtual Passage Adapter. I have the last and latest firmware installed, 1.1.12.1 and am running Win 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I previously had it working from within the same building where I am now in but somewhere in the IE upgrades or otherwise the adapter no longer installs. I have tried starting IE9 64-bit with administrator's rights, made the noted ActiveX and scripting security changes as noted in the manual for a Windows OS. I also have C++ 64-bit redistributable 2005 installed (also 2008 and 2010 for that matter if that would cause any conflict). I am running Norton 2012 Internet Security and SUPERantispyware which I don't think have any bearing on the situation but still thought I would note it. I do not have port 443 forwarded for any reason in the RVL200 setup which I learned RVL200 uses for the SSL VPN. I have tried removing the SSL drivers that were put in the Windows folder after the failed attempts of the Virtual Passage instal but with no luck in reinstalling.
I would like to use my WUSB54GC ver2 adapter with a WIN7 ultimate 64-bit PC. Do I have any chance to use it on this computer? Linksys' website says that only ver3 adapters can use the WIN7 driver.
I have spend some time today trying to get my WMP600N-EU PCI Adapter installed. However up till now without any success. I run the installation CD with instructions, but the adapter is not found when I mount it into the PCI slot. I have tried both slots without success. Each time I get error 212.
I have 2 AE1000 USB adapters and according to the Linksys website these are wirelessN dual band selectable adapters. I finally hooked up my new e4200 dual band router and the ae1000 connect but I don't see anywhere on the screen in windows 7 ultimate 32bit that you can change the band?
When I click on Network under Places I can see Windows Network folder. When I click on the Windows Network folder it displays an error message of Unable to mount location...Failed to recieve share list from server.
I have an Active Directory with Windows 2003 Server and all clients with windows xp and I set default group policy for all clients now I install windows 7 ultimate on one computer and want to join it to domain I have tried to join it and it was. But the policies which I set for windows xp machines on Domain are takes place by windows 7 eg. The basic theme of windows 7 was replaced with classic theme of XP. how can I set separate policies on domain for windows 7 client?
I am trying to lab up an ACS5.2 with windows 2003 AD for PEAP authentication. But my ACS does not join the AD and throws an error "can not resolve network address". But when i do an nslookup on ACS CLI , the same domain wireless.abc.com is returning with the IP address of my AD. I think i am missing something in windows AD/DNS configs here as i am not a windows AD expert.
1) My AD domain is wireless.abc.com. In my DNS, i have a zone called wireless.abc.com. and i have added "New Host" in that DNS zone with the "name" as blank and providing IP address of my AD (AD and DNS are on same windows installation) . Is this the right way to do ?
2) I should be entering "wireless.abc.com" in the ACS active directory domain name field and do test connection. right ?
I am running a small network of 30 pc. I have installed windows server 2003. Now i want to upgrade it to server 2008 but before that i want to test windows server 2008. That is why i,m looking online for a copy of windows server 2008 with reg key. Is there any good and trusted place to get windows server 2008.
I have a dedicated windows server 2008 r2 enterprise.I am running an SSTP VPN but only have 2 IP address to connect to the internet on.My issue is that one of the IPs is for the IIS7 etc and the other is for VPN use.How can I apply the same IP to more than one user allowing them to connect all at one. There are in total about 5 users who want to use the VPN service and I dont really want to pay.How do I apply the same IP to all accounts and allow them to connect and all use the same IP at once.
I'm wanting to make use of an old PC here that has Windows Server 2008 on it. i basically just want to use it as a backup machine. i have 1 PC, 1 Mac and an iPod Touch that'll be accessing it. what do i need to do to set it up? is there a guide anywhere? how is it different to setting up a NAS using FreeNAS?
My computer has today 3x2 TB WD Green disks and thay are really slowing my system down so now I need to move them to somekind of NAS.I was first lookin at the "Synology Disk Station DS411j" but then I found that I got some old hardware laying around (AMD 3200+ CPU, 1 GB ram,XFX GeForce 7600GT, Seasonic SS-300FT in a Thermaltake Xaser II chassi). So now I got some questions :
1. I was looking into running FreeNas on my NAS but if the NAS is crashing then it will be alot of work to get the data back? Is it right that its not possible to just mount a drive from the FreeNas in to my Windows7 computer and read the data?
2. If I install Windows 2008(not r2 that demands 64bits CPU) and then uses dynamic volums to get one big volume, what will happen if this Windows2008 craches? will it be able to place one of the disks in my windows7 computer and reda the data?
3. What happens if one disk i a dynamicvolume craches? will all data be lost?
4. Is there any sleepmode in Windows2008? If would be nice if the computer shutsdown at night and startsup when it is about to be used.
5. Will a finished product like the "Synology Disk Station DS411j" demand less power? Will I earn anything to buy the DS411j instead of my old hardware if we look on the economics?
