My roommate is running dual boot Windows XP PRO (SP3) and Ubuntu 10.10. I am running Windows XP PRO(SP3). Is there any software, that can run on both OS and can create a home network that will work between XP and Ubuntu. He has Samba installed but I have read that that works on Linux not Windows so he can see me but I can't see him.

I've finally made the jump into Ubuntu and put it on my laptop. I have never used Linux before so it will be a bit of a learning curve although it does look quite user friendly.
I have already connected my Ubuntu laptop to my wireless router so I have internet. I would just like to be able to access files on my PC and vice versa similar to Windows Homegroup but I have no idea how.
PC = Windows 7 Ultimate - Laptop = Latest version of Ubuntu (I think it's 11?)

I have never had to share an Ubuntu drive to windows before, and I never thought it would end up being this difficult. What I need to do is share my 500gb drive in ubuntu, it is a secondary drive, not the primary with the OS on it, to my windows xp and my windows 7 machines. So far I have samba installed on the ubuntu machine and I have formatted and set everything up. The issue is that I just cant figure out how to connect to it in windows becuase when i use the map network drive feature it says something about no network found.

If I have two servers, one running Windows Server 2003, and one running Ubuntu 10, what would be the best way to 'map' one's drive to another? Either way is fine. They are each in a different state, and each have an external IP. I just need to do some processing on the Ubuntu server, then write the file either to its own drive, and have the web server (Windows) read it, or, have it write to the Windows HDD, and have Windows read it.

My setup was as follows:
Computer 1 - Win7 ip address 192.168.1.2
Computer 2 - Ubuntu 10.10 ip address192.168.1.3
Had samba working Ok Decided to check out Fedora 14 so set it up as dual boot on Computer 2 and installed samba.
Computer 1 - Win7 ip address 192.168.1.2
Computer 2 - Dual boot Ubuntu 10.10/Fedora 14 ip address 192.168.1.3
When Ubuntu is running, Win 7 sees shares for Ubuntu. If Fedora is running win 7 cannot connect to any shares stating a bad file path. From my understanding as both linux os'es are on the same computer, using the same connection, the ip address for both would be the same and thats probably were Win7 must have problems. From what I've read on the net it seems changing the netbios name or computer name would not work as Win7 would only use these to resolve the ip address which in this case would be the same.(Could be wrong).So essentially is there a way for Win7 to recognise which linux os was running on Computer 2 and display the shares accordingly.

I came into an old Win 7 computer (64-bit) with a WMP54G v4.0 wireless card in it. Apparently the driver had already been installed previously but when I booted the computer it didn't acknowledge the existence of the card or drivers. I installed the driver from here[url]... and restarted the computer when prompted (the card was already in the computer). Upon restart the setup was supposed to complete, but it never came up. When I re-ran the setup it just said the driver is already installed.The card still isn't being recognized, scanning for new hardware in the device manager doesn't bring it up. There is an entry for a "Network Controller" with no driver installed, it may be the WMP54G but trying to manually install the driver doesn't work. Windows just says it can't find the driver even when I point the install wizard right to its location.

I am trying to lab up an ACS5.2 with windows 2003 AD for PEAP authentication. But my ACS does not join the AD and throws an error "can not resolve network address". But when i do an nslookup on ACS CLI , the same domain wireless.abc.com is returning with the IP address of my AD. I think i am missing something in windows AD/DNS configs here as i am not a windows AD expert.
1) My AD domain is wireless.abc.com. In my DNS, i have a zone called wireless.abc.com. and i have added "New Host" in that DNS zone with the "name" as blank and providing IP address of my AD (AD and DNS are on same windows installation) . Is this the right way to do ?
2) I should be entering "wireless.abc.com" in the ACS active directory domain name field and do test connection. right ?

I have set up a Small business server environment for a client. One server in the network, it provides both DHCP, and DNS. Joined all of the XP machine to domain no worries. Tried to join the 7 machine and I get a "DNS couldn't be resolved" error. I know DNS is functioning properly on my server.

My desktop is connected to Internet using Ethernet cable and I can access internet from my desktop but not from my laptop.
Also I can ping successfully to my router from my laptop, but still no internet.

My host OS is Ubuntu 12.04 and I am running a LAMP stack there. I have several Windows virtual machines (XP and Windows7) running in Virtual Box so I can test IE6, IE7, etc..
I frequently move this laptop between a few wireless networks and sometimes I am without an internet connection. I pause and save the VM execution state. Regardless, I want the virtual machines to be able to access the sites I am hosting locally on Ubuntu. The virtual machines do not need regular internet access. On the host I can point the browser at localhost or any subdirectory that apache is serving and view pages I've set up already. What is the best configuration for this?
Should I use Bridged or NAT virtual adaptors and should the guests use static IP's or DHCP ? I've also considered using ad-hoc networks between guests and host, but I think this will require that the host disconnect from any other networks (with internet access).

I have an Ubuntu box, 11.04 x64, running on a Dual Opteron SFF box (iWill ZMaxDP... pretty old machine). Up until a few weeks ago, it was acting as a Windows 2008 Server, but i moved it to Ubuntu.
Anyway, the machine will not stay on the network for any amount of time, without falling off... I have changed network cards, cables, ports on the switch, etc, and nothing seems to work. I have a Windows 2003 box giving out DHCP addresses, and for a while, i actually tured that off and setup a second Ubuntu box to give IPs... it made no difference. The box gets an IP, and can ping outside for a bit (2 min or so) and then just looses connectivity... ifconfig shows it with an IP (i have tried both Static and DHCP config) and nothing seems to work.Restarting the network stack (/etc/init.d/networking restart) some times gets a connection working for a few min, but then it falls over again..
Just to note, the main onboard network card is not showing up for some reason. I have an Intel Dual GigE PCI card installed. Eth2 is the "Working" interface, an ETH3 is not connected to anything.... Also, this is probably the first time since i installed the machine that the connection is staying up.

I've tried two operating systems (Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows XP) two different wireless adaptors (Dell M1530 internal adaptor and Alfa USB Adaptor which I get full bars on) and tried a different Dell M1530 laptop which I'm also having issues with. I've also tried to diagnose the network with a tool, but I'm totally unable to connect to it so I'm unable to get any more information.If I try to connect to an unsecured network, it works perfectly. I'm totally stumped about this, due to the fact that I've used two different operating systems, two different adaptors and two different laptops (albeit the same brand).

I'm trying to use an EPSON WF2530 printer over wifi from my laptop Everythings fine until the printer gets turned off and on and the router assigns a new (different) IP address via DHCP.
I can run:
sudo nmap -PR -sP 192.168.1.1/24
which returns a list of MAC addresses and IP addresses on the LAN and then manually set the printer properties to the new IP address or I can log into the WiFi router and inspect the DHCP table then do the same thing What I'd really like to be able to do is have Ubuntu handle this automatically, e.g. it queries the MAC addresses on the LAN, finds the printer, extracts the current IP address and sets the printer properties appropriately? have to check the printers IP address every time I want to use it.I don't want to go down the route of having a static IP table
router is Cisco Linksys Dual-Band Wireless-N ADSL2+ Modem Router with Gigabit WAG320N

ISP: CharterType: CableRouters: Belkin N150 & Linksys E1200Devices: Laptop, ipad, desktop w/wireless card, hardwired desktopI had random issues with the Belkin router. I was able to hard-wire connect via the router but very randomly my wifi signal would go out and I would be completely unable to connect to the router on any device. Now I am having the exact same issues with my new Linksys router.Sometimes the wifi works and others I get "Unable to connect to network" or "Unable to join network". I have not yet noticed a pattern.Here are the things I have tried:
* Replace router with new router
* Remove encryption
* Change encryption types
* Restart both cable modem & router
* Factory reset of router
* Changed Channels
* Reboot of router from http://192.168.1.1 interface than mine) are all called 2WIRE490 and 2WIRE593.

I've been trying to get it to work all day.When I open up Hamachi it shows the main screen with two buttons. Create a new network and Join an existing network.I've tried both but when I click create or join it doesn't do anything. Like it actually does nothing at all.Doesn't even close the window.Everything stays open and it doesn't either create or join any networks.
