View 1 Replies View RelatedI've finally made the jump into Ubuntu and put it on my laptop. I have never used Linux before so it will be a bit of a learning curve although it does look quite user friendly.
I have already connected my Ubuntu laptop to my wireless router so I have internet. I would just like to be able to access files on my PC and vice versa similar to Windows Homegroup but I have no idea how.
PC = Windows 7 Ultimate - Laptop = Latest version of Ubuntu (I think it's 11?)
My roommate is running dual boot Windows XP PRO (SP3) and Ubuntu 10.10. I am running Windows XP PRO(SP3). Is there any software, that can run on both OS and can create a home network that will work between XP and Ubuntu. He has Samba installed but I have read that that works on Linux not Windows so he can see me but I can't see him.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI have never had to share an Ubuntu drive to windows before, and I never thought it would end up being this difficult. What I need to do is share my 500gb drive in ubuntu, it is a secondary drive, not the primary with the OS on it, to my windows xp and my windows 7 machines. So far I have samba installed on the ubuntu machine and I have formatted and set everything up. The issue is that I just cant figure out how to connect to it in windows becuase when i use the map network drive feature it says something about no network found.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIf I have two servers, one running Windows Server 2003, and one running Ubuntu 10, what would be the best way to 'map' one's drive to another? Either way is fine. They are each in a different state, and each have an external IP. I just need to do some processing on the Ubuntu server, then write the file either to its own drive, and have the web server (Windows) read it, or, have it write to the Windows HDD, and have Windows read it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMy setup was as follows:
Computer 1 - Win7 ip address 192.168.1.2
Computer 2 - Ubuntu 10.10 ip address192.168.1.3
Had samba working Ok Decided to check out Fedora 14 so set it up as dual boot on Computer 2 and installed samba.
Computer 1 - Win7 ip address 192.168.1.2
Computer 2 - Dual boot Ubuntu 10.10/Fedora 14 ip address 192.168.1.3
When Ubuntu is running, Win 7 sees shares for Ubuntu. If Fedora is running win 7 cannot connect to any shares stating a bad file path. From my understanding as both linux os'es are on the same computer, using the same connection, the ip address for both would be the same and thats probably were Win7 must have problems. From what I've read on the net it seems changing the netbios name or computer name would not work as Win7 would only use these to resolve the ip address which in this case would be the same.(Could be wrong). So essentially is there a way for Win7 to recognise which linux os was running on Computer 2 and display the shares accordingly.
I came into an old Win 7 computer (64-bit) with a WMP54G v4.0 wireless card in it. Apparently the driver had already been installed previously but when I booted the computer it didn't acknowledge the existence of the card or drivers. I installed the driver from here[url]... and restarted the computer when prompted (the card was already in the computer). Upon restart the setup was supposed to complete, but it never came up. When I re-ran the setup it just said the driver is already installed. The card still isn't being recognized, scanning for new hardware in the device manager doesn't bring it up. There is an entry for a "Network Controller" with no driver installed, it may be the WMP54G but trying to manually install the driver doesn't work. Windows just says it can't find the driver even when I point the install wizard right to its location.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a tablet running Ubuntu 9.04 with a USB connection to a host computer. (Ideally the host is running Windows, but if absolutely necessary I could switch the host to be Ubuntu also.)
I want to be able to SSH into the device without RS-232, WiFi, or other network connection. What software combination and setup do I need to make this happen?Basically, I'd love the be able to have the equivalent of adb shell, but for when the tablet is running pure Ubuntu, not Android.
I have Squid proxy installed on a ubuntu box here. Currently all my PC's use my ADSL modem as their default gateway but what i wanted to do was see if it was possible to use the ubuntu box as the default gateway, and have it route through Squid to my ADSL modem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just installed ubuntu 10.10 and I'm unable to connect to the internet. I checked for device recognition and the output is DISABLED which apparently means that my network device may be turned off. How can I turn it on. Windows is no longer installed. By the way I'm an ubuntu newbie. Hence, I wiped my hard drive during installation.

eth0:47.168.137.14 and eth1:47.168.137.15
I can ping eth0 but can not ping eth1.
Is there a special setting for gettting both ethernet interface active and reachable at the same time.
I have a laptop1 which has its two interfaces ( wired and wireless ) working. And have another laptop (laptop2) for which only wired interface works.
I am planning to connect the two wired interfaces such that laptop2 can connect to internet through the wireless interface of laptop1. How to achieve this? Both systems use Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop edition
Network settings. What I want to do is limit the rate that people can download files from my webserver remotely. LAN connections should still be able to transfer at full speed, but anything outside of the local network should be limited to 200Kbps per connection. Is that even possible? Can I limit the number of connections per client (probably by IP)?
If this can't be done at the OS level, is there any way I could script it using PHP? Maybe read X bytes into a file and then sleep...
I have installed Ubuntu on my HP laptop within Vista, because I am using the wireless adopter TP-LINK TL-WN721N to connect, I am not able to find the correct driver and install it.

The wireless locator finds the signal but won't connect. It says "ethos" and then when you click from there I don't get through. Just seems to keep looking forever, then says after 3 minutes can't connect. It could be I need a specific driver for the Ethernos wireless device, I am not sure. Further I am had a hacking where I had to change wireless settings so I may have done it myself. I am able to connect on my Windows 7 wireless network account but not the Linux one. I tried deleting the account on the Linux Ubuntu that shows up but this didn't work.May have made worse. Is this on my wireless device side, meaning I need to change/get password ect or the Ubuntu side where it's some type of common problem. Do I need to access through the router web page? Incidentally that's blocked for me too.

View 3 Replies View RelatedWe have an ASA 5510 running 9.1 and the latest 3.1 AnyConnect package for Linux. The problem that i am having is that the AnyConnect VPN will drop after maybe 30 seconds or less of connection. It will connect fine. I can ping my remote servers. Then it will drop and go into a "Reconnecting State". Of which it will not reconnect. I have to close AnyConnect and then try to connect again. Then I'll get the same results. We have about 25 employees that use the AnyConnect VPN all day on Windows 7 machines without any problems. The issue appears to be isolated to my Ubuntu laptop. I have gone so far as to completely reinstall Ubuntu, both 64 and 32 bit versions but end up with the same results.
