I have a Sony Viao PCG-71312L laptop that has Windows 7, 64-bit as OS. I loaded on Ubuntu as want to learn more about Linux. The wireless locator finds the signal but won't connect. It says "ethos" and then when you click from there I don't get through. Just seems to keep looking forever, then says after 3 minutes can't connect. It could be I need a specific driver for the Ethernos wireless device, I am not sure. Further I am had a hacking where I had to change wireless settings so I may have done it myself. I am able to connect on my Windows 7 wireless network account but not the Linux one. I tried deleting the account on the Linux Ubuntu that shows up but this didn't work.May have made worse. Is this on my wireless device side, meaning I need to change/get password ect or the Ubuntu side where it's some type of common problem. Do I need to access through the router web page? Incidentally that's blocked for me too.

I want to connect two laptops for experiment purpose. I do not want to use the internet on any of them , just be able to ping from one pc to another and SSH into them. The use is basically for a mobile robot , one pc on the robot and another one to control and see the processes using SSH. How do I use a wireless router to create such a network? I am using Ubuntu on both system (I tried ad-hoc but its not working).

I've tried two operating systems (Ubuntu 12.04 and Windows XP) two different wireless adaptors (Dell M1530 internal adaptor and Alfa USB Adaptor which I get full bars on) and tried a different Dell M1530 laptop which I'm also having issues with. I've also tried to diagnose the network with a tool, but I'm totally unable to connect to it so I'm unable to get any more information. If I try to connect to an unsecured network, it works perfectly. I'm totally stumped about this, due to the fact that I've used two different operating systems, two different adaptors and two different laptops (albeit the same brand).

I've finally made the jump into Ubuntu and put it on my laptop. I have never used Linux before so it will be a bit of a learning curve although it does look quite user friendly.
I have already connected my Ubuntu laptop to my wireless router so I have internet. I would just like to be able to access files on my PC and vice versa similar to Windows Homegroup but I have no idea how.
PC = Windows 7 Ultimate - Laptop = Latest version of Ubuntu (I think it's 11?)

I just installed ubuntu 10.10 and I'm unable to connect to the internet. I checked for device recognition and the output is DISABLED which apparently means that my network device may be turned off. How can I turn it on. Windows is no longer installed. By the way I'm an ubuntu newbie. Hence, I wiped my hard drive during installation.

I have 2 PCs, an Acer H340 and a network printer wired to the WAG320N; two other PCs are connected wireless. On every PC I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu (except the NAS with WHS).When I boot with Ubuntu on every PC, I can print, I can connect to intenet, open the Web interface of the WAG320N at 192.168.1.1 but I CAN'T see the NAS and the other PCs: this with the wired PCs and the WiFi connected ones. A Galaxy Tab can browse the NAS content and the Web.I didn't had this problem with the modem router I had from the ADSL supplier and the Huawei D100 I used before. On the network map of the Cisco Network Magic the Linux PCs are showed connected to the WAG320N with a dotted line, when the W7 ones are connected with a solid line.

If I have two servers, one running Windows Server 2003, and one running Ubuntu 10, what would be the best way to 'map' one's drive to another? Either way is fine. They are each in a different state, and each have an external IP. I just need to do some processing on the Ubuntu server, then write the file either to its own drive, and have the web server (Windows) read it, or, have it write to the Windows HDD, and have Windows read it.

I'm having trouble getting my Ubuntu 10.04 machine (Sony Vaio VGN-SR490) to connect to the Internet by way of an Ethernet cable connected directly to my router.
I'm able to connect to the Internet using this same cable using a Windows machine, way Linux is configured. [code] It looks like the network adapters list is empty. I will now install both Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux dual-boot. I'm still not able to access the internet, even through Windows. I'm wonder if this could be a hardware problem with the computer or a problem with the router itself. Other computers can connect to this same router, and work fine.

I recently had to rebuild PC. All re-installed and happily working except wireless web access. I've re-installed wireless adaptor (BY Voyager 1055), but router will not issue an IP via DHCP to my PC. Can connect to same router using a laptop (picks up IP using DHCP). Have tried using static IP, connects, then loses connection after a few seconds. Both bits of kit are XP SP2, could it be a driver issue? My local telecom provider is unable to assist saying "it's something to do with your PC".

My IBM T41 has an installed adapter. It says that it connects to the wireless networks I set up for it, but when I open web browsers, it doesn't really connect to the internet. I know the icon in the system tray for it is a computer monitor. The screen of the little monitor should blink if it works, and mine does not blink. I tried putting in 2 new adapters, but those failed to work.
3 years ago I had this same problem. I called my internet provider and someone was able to control my laptop from his computer. He opened some sort of settings screen that I had never seen before. I didn't even see how he got to it because he did it all so fast. After he changed a setting, my laptop was able to connect to the wireless internet. Since then, my internet provider has begun charging for this service so I've opted out of doing it again. I wonder if the man was using settings on the router website. If he was, what settings did he change that allowed my computer to connect?

Last night the power either blinked or had a surge and I lost the internet on both of my computers. After restarting the Hughesnet modem and Netgear WNR3500L router, I now have internet service back on my laptop computer. However, I can't get it to work on my desktop. I have an HP Desktop running Windows XP (actually both computers are XP) using a Netgear Wireless-G USB 2.0 Adapter. Everything worked fine until today. Since then, it seems that the desktop sees the network, but can't connect to the internet. I've looked at a lot of forums and instructions and it sounds to me that the router will not assign the adapter an IP address. My wireless network connections have aegis protocol and tcp/ip selected, with obtain and ip address and dns server address automatically selected. I've uninstalled the adapter and reinstalled it and even done a system recovery on my computer in hopes to reset it, but nothing has worked. As you can see below I've tried most of the suggestions I've found online to no avail. I've also done the winsock and t something stack commands. I also don't know how to access my router b/c it's not connected to a computer. I could access it with my laptop, but I'm not sure how since it was setup with my desktop which required my entire desk to be physically moved at the time.

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 on a Dell Inspiron 6400.I am able to get 10/100 Ethernet card and Wireless Lan working independently. If I restart/reboot my eth0 turns starts up fine.If I then manually start my wireless connection (eth1), eth0 disappears.
There seems to be issues with wireless drivers: I don't have the cleanest solution but I run this script: [code]
Is there any way I can have them running simultaneously? From reading around I believe it's possible but not quite sure what I'm doing wrong.

I've a Windows 2008 R2 install. I have a getnet GN-621u wireless adapter. I can connect with no encryption to my wireless router bu with wpa2-psk(aes) it fails. I have a laptop with win 7 on 64-bit and it can connect with the same wireless adapter with encryption enabled no problems. I'm guessing its MS's awesome server/workstation compatibility (not) getting in the way and this card simply doesn't work too well on the server environment. (its just a "workstation" that i'm using to develop sharepoint apps),

I'm starting this thread because I can't get my new Linksys AE2500 wireless use adapter to connect to my new Linksys X2000 ADSL modem. I purchased both of these devices because my old 2wire modem kept dropping the wifi signal and I had to keep turning off and on the modem in order to get the wifi signal back. Now my problem is that I can't connect my AE2500 adapter to the x2000 modem at all, heck I can't connect any wifi enabled device to the modem even though the SSID and password is correct. The adapter finds the network but it can't connect to it at all. The x2000 modem works perfectly since I can use the internet if I connect my computer to it via Ethernet cable but unfortunately I have my desktop in my room and the modem is in the living room so connecting using an Ethernet cable really isn't an option. I tried using my old 2wire modem to see if it would connect to that modem and it did as a matter of fact and the speeds were good but as of late, the speeds have been horrible and the signal drops every few minutes. I get 1 bar in the network status and speed of 1.0 Mbps. Here is a picture for reference:
The problem only persists when using wifi though because when connected to the 2wire modem, the speeds are fast. Range isn't really a problem because im like 10 feet away from the router so I'm not sure what's causing that problem. I assume it's the modem being that its about 7 years old so I would really like to get my x2000 working to see if it's better than my old 2 wire. I'm currently connected to my old 2wire modem via my AE2500 wireless usb adapter as that's the only way I can use the internet. Here's my info:

I have a Windows 7 machine that is a client to an old SBS 2003 server. I don't use the server but once a month anymore because there is some old software that I need to keep on it. I also don't want to use the server for internet access anymore. I just use a wireless adapter on the client machine for internet connection. My problem is that I can either use my wireless adaptor for internet access or connect to my server. I can't do both at the same time (I get the "multiple networks red x") and no internet access.

So earlier today I purchased a new video card, a PNY Nvidia Gtx 560. After installing the drivers through the disc, I ended up getting he BSOD, and my PC just kept on restarting automatically. I fixed that problem, and found out that I should install the drivers for it through their website instead. So, after restarting my PC yet again, I tried using the Internet (Chrome) and found out that I have no Internet connection. Now, I am writing this on my iPad using the same router and modem that my PC is supposed to be using, but I keep on checking my WLAN adapter and it says that it is Not Connected. Now I have tried every forum, every post, EVERYTHING related to this problem and not a single thing fixes it. Also, when I do the ipconfig, everything says Media Disconnected and that's it. PS, I tried unplugging/plugging back in my modem and router PPS, Is it possible that when installing my new gcard and psu that I may have messed up with something internally?
