I just changed my wifi modem and now I have a problem to connect my wireless g usb adapter on my PC to wifi. This wifi modem has a password. how to setup the network connection.
View 1 RepliesI have a TP-Link TL-WN723 USB WiFi adapter attached to my laptop, which runs WinXP Service Pack 3. It successfully detdcts the WiFi provided by my Edimax BR62-04Wg router, but when I try to connect, it cannot obtain an IP address and cannot connect to the network.
- The very same WiFi adapter can connect to other routers without any problem
- Any other device can connect to the very same network provided by my router without any problem
- Using the WiFi adapter with other computers does not work
Thus, it seems that the problem is somewhere between this specific router and WiFi adapter. Here is an interesting detail though:If I try connecting to my WiFi while a LAN cable from the router is plugged into my computer, the wireless connection establishes too. Even if I later unplug the LAN cable, the wireless connection continues to work. But it won't establish the connection without the cable plugged in.Here's what I've already know/tried:
- Rebooting the PC
- Re-installing the WiFi adapter's drivers
- All drivers and firmwares are the newest available
- Re-starting and reconfiguring the router
- Using the Windows client for wireless networking and the client included on the WiFi adapter's CD
- Changing the router's connection type to any available option: Access Point, Station Ad-hoc, AP Bridge WDS
None of these had any effect except for one:
- When I changed the router's connection type to Station Ad-hoc, I could connect wirelessly even without the LAN cable plugged in, and I had Internet access. However, in this case, other devices, such as smartphones could not detect the WiFi connection.

However, when I try connnecting to my network the first thing it does is start connecting... it dosnt ask for the password. After attempting to connect, nothing happens. So, I set up my own network, type in the SSID and type in the password and its confirmation. It still wont connect I tried re-installing and repairing and nothing will happen..So I test it on my macbook pro and everything works fine.PS my windows XP cannot get internet at all so I cant download anything nor do I have a USB?

It just so happened that i turned on my computer and even though the wifi connections were available, when trying to connect this message keeps showing up " Windows was unable to connect to UoC WiFi". I have tried everything from making a new wifi connection to changing usb-ports
FYI I use the same wifi connection on my netbook and android, and they are working fine, so it's definitely not a problem with the ISP.

I've been having a problem with my wifi for a month or so. I used to connect well to my wifi, but then one day my laptop just can't connect to it anymore. It says "windows was unable to connect to" or something similar to that.But what's strange is, I have an external wifi adapter (Tenda 802.11n, it looks like an USB flash drive). I use this adapter to connect to Wifi with the very same password, and it can connect perfectly. Signal strength is around the same level.I tried using windows troubleshooter, didn't work. It is almost as if my computer itself is blocking the adapter.I spoke to an On Networks rep for over two hours and he tried everything from reinstalling to rebooting and tried three different drivers. He was from a different country and when I told him what the troubleshooter said he would not deviate from the script they give them 2 hours and he was not even close. xbox 360 sees both the 2.4 network (ssid = network1) and the 5.0 network (ssid network2) when it does its scan.
Initially, xbox showed network strength for 2.4 network at 3 out of 4 bars and 5.0 network at 1 out of 4 bars. Connects to 2.4 network just fine, Won't pull an ip address and reports "Not connected" when I select the 5.0 network.
I tweaked the wireless settings per some suggestions I found in this forum and now it shows the 5.0 network at 4 out of 4 bars signal strength. Also turned security on and off and xbox 360 reported the changes in security on the 5.0 network. So the xbox 360 is definitely seening the 5.0 network. and can tell if it is running WPA2 or not. If it can see the 5.0 network and recognizes what security and network type (infrastructure) is set, would would stop it from connecting to the WRT610n router and getting an IP address? No mac filters or firewalls are set and, again, connects just fine and gets an ip address if I select the 2.4 (network1 ssid) instead.
Sometimes I cannot connect to the router after my computer has been to sleep. This has occurred on different routers. I can still see the network, but am told I cannot connect when attempting to connect to it. Restarting/shut down does not solve the problem - I have to restart the router itself, and then my computer will reconnect automatically. Other computers/devices will be unaffected by this and maintain a connection the entire time. Atheros AR5B91 Wireless Network Adapter using Windows 7 Service Pack 1.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI took this wifi adapter from a pc that isn't being used, and decided to plug it into one that is. While it was in the other pc, it worked, now that it's in this pc it doesn't detect ANY wifi networks. I decided to plug it into a laptop and it worked the minute the drivers were installed.The problems are as follows:
* When plugged into the pc, the adapter's utility app just says "Checking status" and no info being displayed thereafter.
* Windows says the device is working, but it does not come up in the Internet Access popup window in the task bar.
* No info comes up in Xirrus except for the name of the adapter.
I installed both the drivers that came with the adapter, and the latest drivers from windows update. Neither worked.It is a Billion BiPAC 3011N adapter.
Any way to connect a wifi usb to a wireless router for better wifi connect?? i have wifi but it only gets in the room of the house im in and want it to work though out the house not just one room

I have 3 windows 7 computers but only one wireless g usb wireless adapter from tenda. I also have a linksys wrt54g wireless router that I can use.
I have tried to set up the router as a wireless bridge by loading a DD-WRT bin on my linksys but it seemed way buggy -results - I was only able to get 2 of 3 online and if I restarted any of them I lost the connection completely.
Went back to stock firmware and tried to set up a lan between the 3 towers with the linksys then just bridge the two connections on the main pc - results -no internet at all on 2nd and 3rd pc... and when the connection to the wifi network is started I loose my networking to the 2 pc's on the linksys.
Im not sure if im not setting these up correctly as im just following guides and such but since im fairly good with computers this is making me crazy...to be able to set three computers up on 1 good clear wifi should be an easy task but it's just not working out..

I will have to continously turn off and on the wifi of the macbook to have it force to look at wifi networks. It will not be able to see also other wifi networks which are present in my neighbors which my windows 7 and other machines can see. After playing around with it I found that the macbook will connect to wifi only after I connect it momentarily via cable. I do this everytime I turn on my macbook.I just upgraded to a Macbook Pro running on Lion and the same thing happened. I tried the same solution of connecting first via cable but to my disappointment, would not see any wifi network including my neighbor's which again the other machines can see. So I am stuck with using cable for now.
