I'm running Ubuntu Server in VirtualBox. When I select the internal network option for the network adapter and start up the VM, I only get IPv6 address. I need an IPv4 address as well. My host (running Windows 7) gets has both an IPv4 and IPv6 address listed when I run ipconfig. When I run ifconfig on the guest (running Ubuntu Server), it only lists IPv6.

I have two network cables attached to a managed switch, the location of the two cables are very important. Two computers attached to the said cables.I would like to communicate with one of the computers on PORT 1 and PORT 2, regardless of what computer is plugged into them. They get there IP's via DHCP, and a static IP wont work - as the computer plugged into PORT 1 or 2 may be different.So. I have two ports on the switch that I always want to communicate with the computer on the other end. But I don't (will not) always know the IP address of the computer(s) connected.

My own WiFi network is fine, but while I am connected to any public hotspot I get the 'no internet access' message on the wifi symbol.While connected to my own network, ipconfig/all shows that I have an Autoconfiguration IPv4 address in the (correct) 192 range - but when connected to a hotspot, the address is in the 169 range, or occasionally (as in the instance below) in the 10 range. Clearly this is the problem, but I cannot figure out what has caused it. Is it hardware? Software? Malware? Or user error?I have run the Wireless Test and the log results are pasted below.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a virtual machine running in my desktop which connected on the gigabit lan port on EA4500 with firmware 2.0.37.What I want to be able to do forward a port that came from an external ipv4 address to the ipv6 address and a different port to my virtual machine (to remote desktop port 3389).The reason I want to convert the traffic to ipv6 is because virtual machine is running vpn and is not reacheable through ipv4 (unless bunch of routes are setup and things get complicated etc). I verified my phsical server and virtual server get both ipv6 ip addresses through ipv6 tunnel from comcast. Without tunneling I could not get ipv6 setup using automatic mode with comcast, it simply did not work for some reason.

When i check the network card of these two systems, it seems working (the green light is blinking). When i replace these systems with a laptop, it connecting to the network and there is not problem at all.

They are each in a different state, and each have an external IP. I just need to do some processing on the Ubuntu server, then write the file either to its own drive, and have the web server (Windows) read it, or, have it write to the Windows HDD, and have Windows read it.

It's currently running Ubuntu Server and I'm using Samba to share files on my network.
The server currently has a 2TB WD Green drive in it connected to a Asus M5A78L-M
This is then connected via CAT6a to my new Gigabit switch (TP-Link TL-SG1005D).
My home desktop is then also connected to this switch and again also through CAT6a cable.
Currently when transfering files I will get a perfect 100MB/s read from the server to my Windows machine. When copying from my Windows machine to the server I get around 30/38MB/s.
I know this drive is capable is faster speeds.
I have found ftp's write speed is much closer to what my Samba read speed is so I'm going to give it a guess that is a software problem rather than hardware

I have to block my kids access at times, and when I do this they simply change their IP address and they circumvent the blocking.Other than punishing the kids (which hasn't worked - and they need computers and Internet for homework), is there anyway to lock a computer to MAC address to IP address so if they change it they won't get network/internet access?I also tried to set up network filtering and I put in all the PCs and devices I wanted to provide access for, including the router, but when I save changes I can no longer access the internet or the router. I have to do factory reset to get back into router config.Also, I'm on 1.30WW. I know 1.34 exists, which I tried on a previous router which died and was replaced by RMA; but this didn't solve any problems.

We currently use a Safe@Office500WP Checkpoint router. It allows us to create multiple network ranges. I've got a Cisco 1941 setup working fine for Cisco Anyconnect. Clients can connect to local resources fine. The issue I have is I need the remote clients to access a third party IP address but to do so they must do it through the VPN. At the moment only local resources are accessed across the vpn and if they need internet they use their own internet connection they are connecting with.I've added the below to make sure traffic going to the IP is going across the VPN.
