I am running ubuntu 12.04, with apache2.My router configuration is set to forward port 80 to my local IP.The problem is I can only access the server as local host. Else it times out (from devices using the same network). I do not have sfw firewall enabled, neither shore firewall.

When i check the network card of these two systems, it seems working (the green light is blinking). When i replace these systems with a laptop, it connecting to the network and there is not problem at all.

I need an IPv4 address as well. My host (running Windows 7) gets has both an IPv4 and IPv6 address listed when I run ipconfig. When I run ifconfig on the guest (running Ubuntu Server), it only lists IPv6.

Ive even temporarily removed all firewalls completely to make sure that is not the problem.
I have a PC ready to use that I want to be used for sharing files, pictures and videos on between our multiple PCs in the house hold. I am going to have it constantly running (I have alot of cooling for it) but I need setting it up. I dont know if I should use Ubuntu Server or FreeNAS?

They are each in a different state, and each have an external IP. I just need to do some processing on the Ubuntu server, then write the file either to its own drive, and have the web server (Windows) read it, or, have it write to the Windows HDD, and have Windows read it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I finally got all my parts delivered to setup a home file/backup server this week.
It's currently running Ubuntu Server and I'm using Samba to share files on my network.
The server currently has a 2TB WD Green drive in it connected to a Asus M5A78L-M
This is then connected via CAT6a to my new Gigabit switch (TP-Link TL-SG1005D).
My home desktop is then also connected to this switch and again also through CAT6a cable.
Currently when transfering files I will get a perfect 100MB/s read from the server to my Windows machine. When copying from my Windows machine to the server I get around 30/38MB/s.
I know this drive is capable is faster speeds.
I have found ftp's write speed is much closer to what my Samba read speed is so I'm going to give it a guess that is a software problem rather than hardware

I would like all traffic to travel un-prohibited through my ISP except for my transmission traffic. When I'm pinging my mail server, it gave me different IP's at different times. As the mail server is actually owned by us, I would like to know if that is possible without the IP actually being changed by someone. This is really critical for me. I didn't mean to cross post so providing the URL of the other place where I posted..

For the last several months, but progressively worse, my internet drops due to the DNS Server not responding. This happens across my whole network and the only fix I can come up with is to reset the router every time it does this. At this point I am thinking a new router is in order (but do not have the money atm), I am using a D-Link DIR-625 V. C1 Firmware 3.08 router and a Motorola SB6120 modem. Is there another permanent fix for this problem is or my router on it's last legs? Would setting a new DNS Server on my router work?

I am trying to convert two Aironet 1141n access points to autonomous stand-alone units. I have connected the console cable and I can see the unit giving information in the console window, but I cannot type any commands. When I try to get the unit to upload the c1140-k9w7-tar.default file by holding the mode button in for 20-30 seconds, it shows it is examining the file, and then states that the connection to the tftp server has timed out. My windows firewall is off, the interface is configured as 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.0 and the tftp server is showing that.
View 15 Replies View RelatedI have an Ubuntu box, 11.04 x64, running on a Dual Opteron SFF box (iWill ZMaxDP... pretty old machine). Up until a few weeks ago, it was acting as a Windows 2008 Server, but i moved it to Ubuntu.
Anyway, the machine will not stay on the network for any amount of time, without falling off... I have changed network cards, cables, ports on the switch, etc, and nothing seems to work. I have a Windows 2003 box giving out DHCP addresses, and for a while, i actually tured that off and setup a second Ubuntu box to give IPs... it made no difference. The box gets an IP, and can ping outside for a bit (2 min or so) and then just looses connectivity... ifconfig shows it with an IP (i have tried both Static and DHCP config) and nothing seems to work.Restarting the network stack (/etc/init.d/networking restart) some times gets a connection working for a few min, but then it falls over again..
Just to note, the main onboard network card is not showing up for some reason. I have an Intel Dual GigE PCI card installed. Eth2 is the "Working" interface, an ETH3 is not connected to anything.... Also, this is probably the first time since i installed the machine that the connection is staying up.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer Aspire One netbook.The wireless connection works great, but the wired is totally dead.
When I plug the Ethernet wire, the little led next to the port doesn't blink.

In the "Network Connections" GUI there is an entry "Wired connection 1", its "MAC address" field is blank.
How can I make the wired connection work?
It started rarely, now it happens alot! the only way to get internet back is if I unplug the power cord from my STUPID router.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an airlink ar525w wireless router. My wireless connection drops out every few hours and I have to reset my router to get it up again. My wired connections work perfectly. Also, I am able to see my network as available and with full signal strength from windows but connecting to it doesn't do anything (just says connecting forever). This is not isolated to one computer. I have tried it with laptops, desktops and smartphones. The strange thing is that it works perfectly (hasn't dropped a connection for one month) if I have wireless security disabled.I have tried different types of security (WEP, WPA, WPA2), different channels (all 11 channels), assigning static IP addresses to all my devices and turning off the DHCP server on my router. But none of these settings fix the problem. would be willing to buy another router, but I was reading through reviews on newegg and every router that I saw reviews for has a few people experiencing the same problem that I described here. Is this a widespread problem that I have to live with or does this have something to do with my router specifically?

I have fiber optic Internet with static ip and keeps disconnecting at very random times. It started 3 weeks ago, before it worked perfect. Most of times dcing 3 times per hour. But sometimes working for hours without dcs. Usually disconnects only for half minutes then reconnect, it can be very annoying. The provider keep saying that need change router. I'm tried three different of routers already, but keeps disconnecting. I'm tried connect the net directly into my cpu, without router, but not worked, dc-ing too. I tried ping the default gateway when its disconnected, and its saying: request timed out.What else can i try? It should be, that the provider has too many clients, and their router collapsing?

However, since our service was activated last Thursday, the internet connection intermittently drops and will not recover unless I reboot the modem. The period of up-time will last anywhere between fifteen seconds to several hours, usually falling along the five-to-ten minute range. No difference when using ethernet/wifi. The DSL light stays on, and the Internet light remains on as well.

All connected though the same switch, patch panel, etc. Testing has proven that the switch and line is fine.We have a server set up for all of the multifunction printers on property and we simply map the printers through this unit.We have an exchange server for email.File server... for... files. Okay, here is the situation. This IBM desktop will be connected to everything, able to print, email, connect to files, etc etc.Then, or so it seem, will just lose its connection. no email printing etc. She is asked to put in her network credentials again. and usually this works. (it seems that the network dropping out may take up to 3 minuets to fully restore and she tries to put in her credentials too soon).After each event she is able to restart her computer or type in her credentials and get back to work.. after mapping the printer again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI bought a new DIR-655 REVB router, I already own the first version of the DIR-655 and worked fine, but the wireless range wasn't always the highest upstairs in my house and I was hoping with REVB they had improved the DIR-655's range. I'm not a big wireless guy, meaning if I can use a hardwire connection I will use it, so my house is pretty well wired, but for my daughter and son's ipod and Zune the wireless connection was weak in their upstairs bedrooms. It has been a disaster, the wired connections gets disconnected constantly, I say in the subject title 100's of times a day and I don't think I am exaggerating. It started with Netflix and I thought my son was crazy, how could new router do this, but it was doing it everywhere. It is hard to download files because I lose my connection. I have DSL through Windstream. My solution is to reinstall my old DIR-655.

When I come home with my iPhone & my wife is on her computer, suddenly the wifi stops. And vice-versa. It's ridiculous. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a gaming machine i ran for some time on a wireless connection. This connection had decent speeds but was unreliable and at times very slow (3000 vent ping). So me and my father fished some cat5e cable through some wall from our router to my room. We used some old external jacks verizon gave us and some 6 foot patch cables to connect the computer and router to the jacks. My problem is that once it wall all connected the lan speed has been terribly slow (several times slower than the wireless). Previously I used an ASUS pce-n13 wireless adapter and now the lan is running of the nvidia nforce on my Asus P5n-d motherboard. I am clueless to the problem and I have called Verizon and gotten nowhere.
